We wanted to bring your attention to an article in the academic journal Scottish Affairs, which has been published today. It’s about gender self-identification, Scottish public policymaking and policy capture, a topic we’ve seen debated in FWR on more than one occasion!

We’re delighted to say the article is published on an open access basis, so you can all read the full text and share it as you see fit on social media and elsewhere.

We think Mumsnet is an important resource for women and we have definitely benefitted from following debates on here.

Like so many women involved in this debate, we have been doing this work in our own time on an unpaid basis, squeezed around work, childcare and other responsibilities. We do this work because we care very much about women's rights and we are pleased to be able to bring our skills to bear in analysing policy and practice.

You can read more about the work we’ve done to date on our blog. We welcome all feedback, so please do drop us a line via our contact form.

Been posting links to it. Great work 💪💪

littlbrowndog · 31/07/2019 17:16

Thank you for doing this

MockerstheFeManist · 31/07/2019 17:44

Well that reads like a piece of well-sourced academic writing.

Compare and contrast with pomo gobbledegook about sex being a spectrum.

Melroses · 31/07/2019 17:46

Thank you!

AnyOldPrion · 31/07/2019 17:52

Thanked you in the other thread and I’ll thank you again here! So pleased that you are doing this research.

Hadn’t finished typing - it’s heavily ironic in view of the Yaniv situation, seems female prison officers would be required to handle male genitalia whether they want to or not.

truthisarevolutionaryact · 31/07/2019 18:12

Wow - an excellent, well researched article (and of course mirrors much of the situation elsewhere)
Many congratulations to you all - it can't fail to have an impact.

Curious if it’s peer reviewed and if so, how you got it past the TWAW crew

WrathofSWhittIeKlop · 31/07/2019 22:30

This is now a significant challenge for the Scottish Government, which needs to find a way to allow for open debate

The lobby groups have been ruthless in their demands.
I really hope 'no debate' will be consigned to the history books.

SonicVersusGynaephobia · 31/07/2019 22:53

Placemarking to read tomorrow.

JessicaWakefieldSV · 01/08/2019 09:05

Thanks for the bump, we’ll need to keep it up as attempts to bump it down by derailing other threads is ongoing
