We wanted to bring your attention to an article in the academic journal Scottish Affairs, which has been published today. It’s about gender self-identification, Scottish public policymaking and policy capture, a topic we’ve seen debated in FWR on more than one occasion!

We’re delighted to say the article is published on an open access basis, so you can all read the full text and share it as you see fit on social media and elsewhere.

We think Mumsnet is an important resource for women and we have definitely benefitted from following debates on here.

Like so many women involved in this debate, we have been doing this work in our own time on an unpaid basis, squeezed around work, childcare and other responsibilities. We do this work because we care very much about women's rights and we are pleased to be able to bring our skills to bear in analysing policy and practice.

You can read more about the work we’ve done to date on our blog. We welcome all feedback, so please do drop us a line via our contact form.

Thank you!

Thank you so much for the work you're doing here & for sharing with us. Have a read a summary & unsurprisingly we see just how much women are being failed by this rush to accept self ID.

ScepticShrew · 02/08/2019 14:26

This is what I get when I try to open up your Wordpress link. Someone hacking you?

The problem is with Mumsnet because it's only when clicking on the link from your post here. I'm having no problem going straight to it from Google. Someone at Mumsnet HQ sabotaging?

Juells · 02/08/2019 14:34

I have no problem opening the link

Juells · 02/08/2019 14:37

Oops apologies, the first link opens fine, the second gives the same error message others have posted. The https is in red and struck through in the address bar, as well.

M0RVEN · 02/08/2019 14:39

The link is fine for me. I’m using a work device and we have a very high level of security.

morningtoncrescent62 · 02/08/2019 14:44

I got to your blog a rather roundabout way. I googled and the third result took me to a different page in the blog, then I clicked on 'Latest blog' in the menu and got the right article. Computer glitches will never stop a determined feminist seeking truth. Grin

MurrayBlackburnMackenzie · 02/08/2019 15:24

Thanks for alerting us to the security message some of you are getting. It seems it may be because we posted a link to our blog without the https bit in front. Perhaps others can try this link and see if that solves the problem.

Thank you for your patience!

brilliant!

not familiar with STV - is there any way for sassenachs to see it online maybe?

Viewfromtheisland · 02/08/2019 19:23

STV.tv is the website, I can see there is an article which covers it.

Viewfromtheisland · 02/08/2019 20:03

The tv version had an interview with the report’s author.

GrouchyKiwi · 02/08/2019 20:08

There was also a write up in the Scottish Legal News on Wednesday (DH linked me to it today).

howonearthdidwegethere · 02/08/2019 21:01

STV news story is here:player.stv.tv/episode/3t85/stv-news-edinburgh/

Shocking revelations from a prison service whistleblower about the way female inmates felt about being housed with TW.

You might need to put in a Scottish postcode to watch it.

Alicethroughtheblackmirror · 03/08/2019 08:54

Thank you for this report. It's phenomenal.

Hope that politicians etc start to realise that they have to face up to this now it's too blatant.

I did like the way the STV section pointed out that this went way beyond law and that none of these prisoners had a GRC or surgery.

MrsSnippyPants · 03/08/2019 15:33

Thanks for that, the new link works fine.

InflagranteDelicto · 04/08/2019 08:19

Thanks for the link Smile

wacademia · 06/08/2019 18:52

Melroses · 06/08/2019 22:05

Thanks - just read it again lol Grin

Returning to this thread to thank everyone for their kind comments on our paper. We've had an incredible response to the paper generally: the editor of the journal informed us last month that it was downloaded almost 5,000 times within 12 days of publication!

It's still available on an open access basis and will likely remain outside the journal's paywall for a few more weeks yet.

We're very much hoping to be able to develop our policy capture thesis and have already begun scoping out a follow-up paper.

We've just posted an update on our work on our website:

Thanks again for all your kind words.
