From Heather B-E:

"Britain's experiment with puberty blockers is set to be exposed tonight on Newsnight BBC 2 at 10.30 pm. Michael Biggs chapter in our latest book broke the story! t.co/FV5FLye1oX"

This should be interesting....

I have found the drug related stuff and the protocols with kids really hard to undertand how it came to be so ubiquitous so fast.

Being in Canada I followed the closure of the Toronto clinic quite closely, and it really struck me how this particular set of protocols was just adopted as the standard, with no real evidence, and somehow disagreement or just following a different but equally well established model became "not operating within the accepted standard of practice."

NeurotrashWarrior · 22/07/2019 22:33

crsacre, didn't know that.

So, I agree, this has all been carefully planned.

Regulatory, societal, educational and professional capture from head to toe.

CaptainKirksSpookyghost · 22/07/2019 22:34

Because a lot of very dodgy characters realised it would work in their favour.

NeurotrashWarrior · 22/07/2019 22:35

I think a fair wack is that too purported. It's just the new 'normal'.

ChiaraRimini · 22/07/2019 22:39

I said in another thread that GIDS is all about generating more work for GIDS. Diagnosing more kids as trans -> more money for the service -> more power and influence for the leaders.

Goosefoot · 22/07/2019 22:39

Because a lot of very dodgy characters realised it would work in their favour.

I guess but... well it's kind of a weird thing, isn't it? I know a woman really involved on a professional level in pushing that stuff. She totally bought into that way of thinking, and she has nothing personal to gain.

How do people with medical degrees and clinical experience, or the people running hospitals, get to that place? Because they aren't the ones benefiting, most of them are normal people.

NeurotrashWarrior · 22/07/2019 22:44

I think it's worth remembering the power of the online community in coaching young people with phrases to get what they want. After the online community have boasted about how happy they are being trans and taking hormones.

That's a massive un seen force behind some of this. It got out of control and there was no scrutiny to stop it.

LizzieSiddal · 22/07/2019 22:47

I agree Neuro and wasn’t Mermaids accused of “coaching” children and families on what to say inorder to get puberty blockers? I’m sure it was in a Sunday Times article a few months ago.

Caucho · 22/07/2019 22:48

What I don’t understand is how the Tories seem as woke as the ultra lefty Greens and then Lib Dem’s and Labour. One thing you used to be able to rely on from the Conservatives was to fit the Daily Mail / Telegraph / Sun reader viewpoint.

I know nobody likes being called the nasty party but they seem genuinely terrified. But then look at Trump getting criticised for some sensible reverses to bad trans policies. Having said that, Trump deserves criticism for many other things so he is not a good ally. The reverse of one really as when Trumps against something, it must mean everyone bar his supporters should be for it

BigotedWoman · 22/07/2019 22:50

It’s just so mad isn’t it? Can you imagine if someone decided that they were going to use a completely different material for hip replacements? And everyone just went with it, regardless of any studies? And then 10/20 years later go “oh we had no idea using cement wouldn’t actually work”.

CaptainKirksSpookyghost · 22/07/2019 22:52

What I don’t understand is how the Tories seem as woke as the ultra lefty Greens and then Lib Dem’s and Labour.

Because once you get high enough up the chain, they are all the same, in this case these law changes help predators, you have just as many on the left as the right.

CaptainKirksSpookyghost · 22/07/2019 22:52

So it benefits everyone... except victims.

Macareaux · 22/07/2019 22:53

Is it going to be bumped by other pieces?

NeurotrashWarrior · 22/07/2019 22:54

Lizzie that rings a bell - they certainly have residential weekends were various talkers present including people from
The Tavistock. Mermaids also have a very private / secret online forum for parents and one for young people.

I believe you have to provide passport information and bills etc to be allowed access.

NeurotrashWarrior · 22/07/2019 22:55

Relevant thread by endocrinologist on blockers (he's done a longer interview with Ben Boyce)

I was surprised to hear Dr Kirsty Entwistle day that only 10% of her patients were Mermaids patients, and that was in Leeds where'd if hVe thought Mermaids operated heavily.

CaptainKirksSpookyghost · 22/07/2019 22:56

is it going to be bumped by other pieces?

That'll be funny if it is.
