Right you lot check your privilege and go hunting for your morality.

Just adding this because it's comforting to know that most people can see the emperor is naked.

She must be really worried about it. The sports thing is a good one for getting people to think about the issue. The women’s football has been huge in the news recently but as some mean individuals pointed out, the US ladies team was beaten by 15 year old boys, which clearly shows that even the very best female sports players cannot compete against average men. So how can it be right that males who have had no hormone treatment are winning girls’ races, solely on the basis that they ‘feel female’ and have long hair? Absolutely fucking insane.

Carriemac · 17/07/2019 07:41

I’m paying fees for two DC to attend that university
I feel like writing an open letter to the VC asking for a refund

Pota2 · 17/07/2019 07:41

Also, rather than arguing with what people have actually said, she makes giant sweeping accusations about it being right-wing and based on biological essentialism, when most people in the movement are left-wing and are hugely against biological essentialism.

DanaPhoenix · 17/07/2019 07:46

Yes. I've long said sports will be what will get mens attention. Sadly it really says a lot, and none of it good, about our society. It is what it is though.

No wonder they have began to lash out. Puuuulllll.

Dairy diary hic of a hic proffyproofy of Bantz and Feelz

Dear dairy

I hate them, they think they are SO clever. Literally everyone knows that to have an event you need to charge sensible prices, you know, to keep the riff raff out (most likely transphobes anyway). I think £27 quid is reasonable charge. I mean who wouldn't pay that to see someone so brave and stunning? Eeeek! Can't wait to see Rachel McKinnon. So much fan girl 😍

Yeah, you haters. I know the definition of "free" and it's "you charged £5.95 per ticket".
In fact you probably, WPUK, hic, PAID all those people to come. With your money from the dark web. Your evil, wicked, right wing money. I know you trade union types, so close to nazis. Can't tell the difference.
Listen to them! They said they made it a cheaper price so everyone could come. DYING. Like you'd want to do that. Hic. Like you'd want ordinary people in a meeting. If you need anymore proof they are MENTAL WITCHES it's this. Lolllllllllllllllll

OMG when all those ordinary people got to that meeting, I bet they were so disappointed to see the semi famous sports people. Cos Laurel Hubbard wasn't there. No. Rachel McKinnon want there. No. They had to put up with Sharon Davis and Daley Thompson. Like who even are they? ROFL. Bet they've never won anything.

Total bantz.

Then the messages from tanni grey somebody. Kelly Holmes? I mean who ARE these people. Got to be totally priviliged. Yeah, check your privilige you white, able bodied, middle class LOSERS. Hic. Burp.
Zzz zzz
Slurp.
Snore.

To be continued.......

Carrie do complain- please do. They really do care about being hit where it hurts- in the wallet. At the very least, academics shouldn’t spend their time trolling and goading people.

She has spent her whole career studying this area but she cannot even put her argument forward in coherent terms. I am remembering her radio debate with Kathleen Stock and cringing so hard. If you can’t even explain what your argument is, what is the point? From her tweets, she seems semi-literate, which must make academia a tough place to be, hence the need for sniping and bullying.

If this was a tiny movement of right wing evangelists, a fundraiser to support a woman fired for her views would not have raised a huge amount of cash in just 24 hours. Most people are not on Sally’s side. She might think they are because they don’t dare speak out. She’s wrong- we don’t buy your bullshit, Sally, but we want to keep our jobs. If we agreed with you, we would speak in support of you, because there are no repercussions to doing so. Yet few actually are (and that stupid wishy-washy letter doesn’t count by the way as even the most hardened GC advocates would probably agree with its contents). If you thought you really were in the majority, you wouldn’t bother going on troll-expeditions.

DanaPhoenix · 17/07/2019 08:00

Fantastic!!!!!! Kat you should seriously consider having a thread just of these diary entries. 🍷

Pota2 · 17/07/2019 08:05

Katvon love it- especially the ‘dear dairy’ because that is actually what she would write. I feel cautious about mocking her in case it’s due to dyslexia (although she has never mentioned having it and it seems the sort of thing she would) but her command of the English language is quite shocking.

Also, I remember Rosa Freedman pointing out that Sally has virtually nothing by way of publications for the REF exercise coming up in 2021. I looked at her profile and it’s true. Maybe one or two pieces but that children’s picture book on gender that she published this year is not something that would count. If I were Leeds, I would be asking why she is not producing higher quality work as a professor. Maybe she’s banking it all on the ‘impact’ of her ‘pregnant men’ study.

TurboTeddy · 17/07/2019 08:17

Most of the responses are from people disagreeing with her and yet she continues to post lies and misinformation. Are we sure she's not GC and just creating opportunities for arguments in #nodebate to be heard. I'm having a hard time believing anyone could be so clueless. And what's with the drinking references, is there a back story?

Well they do believe in magic don’t they?

Pota2 · 17/07/2019 08:23

I think she has a habit of tweeting incoherent crap late at night so people assume she is a drunk. Sadly I don’t think she even has that excuse. She’s a great advert for GC views though as she keeps showing how ludicrous the TRA argument is.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 17/07/2019 08:30

My grandma had dementia and she made more sense.

2BthatUnnoticed · 17/07/2019 08:38

Dear Sally, I grew up poor. I’ve experienced racism. A few girls from my school have been in juvie or jail, one got involved with prostitution and is now dead.

I come from a very un-privileged place.

This is why I care about women having sex-segregated spaces. I know how much they are needed.

Trans and NB people need safe spaces and services too - of course they do! I heard of someone building a dedicated shelter ~ that’s great! I will support it.

We need some female spaces. Opening them all to “anyone who feels they are a woman” is an open invitation to predatory guys. They can and will take advantage. They already have. Women have been hurt and others have self-excluded. Please don’t ignore these women.

But if you have to, please at least stop erasing us from our own feminism. A tonne of radfems are Working Class (only rich girls are libfems afaik) and anyone who has been in care or jail is desperate because they know what it means.

Poorer women have spoken but you ignore them and erase them. Why? Why do the voices of only privileged, middle class, tertiary educated people seem to register?

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 17/07/2019 08:46

Was poor Sal brought up in poverty? Did she surfer crap housing and dire school? Or is she the particular type of white m/c woman with a saviour complex.

I’m just going to leave this here m.youtube.com/watch?v=yuTMWgOduFM

EverardDigby · 17/07/2019 09:01

I grew up poor. My father came from extreme poverty and violence, which affected his mental and emotional health and behaviour and therefore mine. I went from an abusive childhood to abusive adult relationships. I was so traumatised by my experiences that I self harmed for over 30 years. Women only spaces have been vital for me in dealing with this and I now work in an organisation that supports women who've had an even harder time than I have. None of them are privileged yet they value women only space, so fuck off Sally with your invisibilising working class women's experience and agency.

Sally Hines: proof that queer theory rots your brain

Just say no kids

Seriously, subscribing to something that stops you from understanding what people mean when they say words like ‘man’ or ‘woman’ actually affects your ability to function in society

Becles · 17/07/2019 09:14

That twitter link is a joy on the morning commute. Grin

When I was a student it was pretty clear cut: engineering students were odd and sociology students were very weird and a bit up their own whatzits.

AncientLights · 17/07/2019 09:53

Is McKinnon coming over then? I've read this a couple of times on & around that thread. Now that would be a meeting to go to. 😁

DickKerrLadies · 17/07/2019 09:58

Sally's tweets have made it a bit tricky for McKinnon though now, being that anything less than 750 people and a handful of Olympic athletes is apparently a tiny gathering.

CriticalCondition · 17/07/2019 12:52

Interesting. Max capacity at the RM venue is only 270. Grin
