JY’s parent sounds like an absolute loon. It would explain a lot.

This is beyond awful. That poor, poor woman 😪😪

If JY wins this, there is simply no true justice.

It's fucking unbelievable. I so hope that, somehow, global media gets this. Transcripts and all.

Natsku · 12/07/2019 20:52

That poor woman. Her lawyer is asking the right questions though.

hoteltango · 12/07/2019 20:55

I would guess that the absence of the press is because they're even more restricted in Canada than here, because of the governmental wokeness. Maybe they're waiting for the result (and judgement/transcript) before they feel able to comment.

So much for the "freedom of the press".

arranbubonicplague · 12/07/2019 20:55

has destroyed that lady’s life and for what

Because JY believes in JY's role as a lightning rod for human rights reform and is encouraged to do so by the laws of that home country and the number of people who didn't challenge JY over other unreasonable behaviour.

I may also be thinking of JY's claim to have brought about MM's lifetime ban from Twitter. And, until comparatively recently, JY was defended by other LGBT+ figures, irc. It's hardly surprising that JY has a very high idea of JY's personal significance and value as someone to whom all others should suborn their own rights.

DublinCrone · 12/07/2019 20:56

I cannot believe the testimony I am reading.
This poor women's life is already so controlled by the men in her life and she is already so vulnerable due to her health conditions. And now some stranger wants to literally compel her to come to their house to wax their genitals.
Fuck that shit. I just cannot believe this is not being reported by official media. Goinglikeelsie is shining a light on the ultimate outcome if adherence to gender ideology. What a crock. I wish I could be more articulate, but I'm so ashamed these women are being treated so badly :(

Maniak · 12/07/2019 20:57

Oh god this is so sad and stupid. Sad

allmywhat · 12/07/2019 21:01

oh my god, I hope that something good comes out of this somehow for that poor woman. This is so heartbreaking.

Fuck JY and fuck Canada for enabling him. This should be a huge national scandal, the world is fucking broken.

FannyCann · 12/07/2019 21:02

Is there also a way of us supporting Elsie? She's really providing an international public service with this and I would like to be able to say thanks, somehow (other than words on twitter).

Huge thank you from me too. StarStarStar

arranbubonicplague · 12/07/2019 21:10

I'm at the point where it feels wrong for me to read more of the father's testimony.

The facts of SG's life as baldly stated are just so distressing. To hear yourself discussed in such terms must be traumatic.

I'm startled that the member hasn't stopped this exchange. However, maybe it was agreed with the family and SG didn't really have the power to object or didn't fully understand what she'd consented to do?

I wonder if any HR's lawyers here like Adam Wagner or Jolyon Maugham are following this but still think that the rights of JY should trump those of SG? (Apologies if I'm mischaracterising their attitudes but that's my understanding from some of their previous statements/actions/exchanges.)

dontdoxmeeither · 12/07/2019 21:14

And it's now really getting to the question of beliefs. Bless you SG. I'm on tenterhooks here, so so hoping that the crux comes out i.e whether science/biology trumps beliefs/feelz

Didactylos · 12/07/2019 21:28

I know, it feels horrible listening to the life of a genuinely vulnerable person being displayed to prove that she is allowed boundaries.

Fuck JV for violating this womans privacy and dragging her into court

As her lawyer said - JV was out of geographical area, the case ought to have ended there, she is utterly within her rights to refuse service on that ground alone not to mention everything else

No one can compel her to go and give a service to anyone: but shes been put through the wringer of court, exposure in the press, she and her family already have suffered personal emotional and financial consequences of being targeted by a very disturbed individual who should not be able to use the court system to toy with others lives

hoteltango · 12/07/2019 21:36

"JY: When you immigrate, you are required to follow the cultural beliefs of Canada."

Since when did the cultural beliefs of Canada require a woman to handle the genitals of a male when she didn't want to?

FannyCann · 12/07/2019 21:39

I realise that this whole case has revolved around human rights/religious beliefs etc. So slight derail ..

But can it really be the case that one person businesses of this sort should be compelled to provide personal services to anyone who asks for them. Eg a cleaner may decline to take on a client who keeps a particularly messy house. A lone woman, driving to people's houses, or inviting them into her own house, should surely have the right to pick and choose for basically any reason or none. Safety being the obvious one. Tutors / piano teachers may decline to take on a child if they don't think they'll be a good fit for instance.

I can't believe lone workers can be compelled to work for anyone who requests their services.

SonicVersusGynaephobia · 12/07/2019 21:55

Good piece by Excel Pope.

miri1985 · 12/07/2019 22:02

Since when did the cultural beliefs of Canada require a woman to handle the genitals of a male when she didn't want to?

Since when did the cultural beliefs of Canada allow someone who thinks immigrants are "dirty" persecute women for having boundaries!

As awful as this case is, think of how much worse it would have been if the JCCF was not representing them pro-bono. I've written them an email and given a small donation to the legal fund for these women on their website to thank them for helping (as a life long leftie I can't believe I'm thanking what some have said is conservative organisation for standing up for womens rights)

hoteltango · 12/07/2019 22:04

Kathleen Stock has retweeted ExcelPope. That will bring this horrendous situation to the attention of more people.

FannyCan, that's a good point. Many organisations have a "lone worker" policy for the protection of staff, particularly women, for precisely these reasons. Why should it be different for lone self-employed women?

OhtheHillsareAlive · 12/07/2019 22:10

Ugh those latest Tweets are just so painful to read. That barsteward cross-examining the Sikh woman and her family. Nasty nasty nasty. Humiliating her for him to be affirmed.

terfsandwich · 12/07/2019 22:13

The minute he admitted to being racist, the case should have been discontinued.

littlbrowndog · 12/07/2019 22:45

That poor woman. She had something that was "hers", something she could do, she could be proud of, interact with other people (women) earn some money for herself and have pride in herself and that fucking wankstain took it all away.

And not only that, there's not a chance in hell that any woman similarly controlled by her male family members will be able to do this sort of work once word gets out - if it hasn't already.

And the feet on the chair. Disgusting in every understanding of it.
