TRAs planning a protest against A Woman's Place meeting on July 10th

The theme of the WPUK meeting is Why female sport matters, and why we must protect it. Effectively the TRAs are protesting against fairness in women's sports.

Details of their protest are below. Protesters are advised not to be violent, to carry offensive banners, or to try and physically stop the meeting from going ahead. 'This is a response, not an attack.'

www.facebook.com/events/2255386031382613/

Women's place UK are a transphobic hate group that work towards the rolling back of trans rights. Their meetings are recruitment drives where they peddle transphobia and their endless justifications for transphobia.

This is happening in our town. Where we live. We need to show them that we won't let hatred towards our trans brothers, sisters and everyone else stand without a response. A fun, musical, party response.

The protest itself will not be taking place at the National Gallery. That is only the meeting place due to it being a large area next to several decent transport routes. Women's Place UK don't release the venue until several hours before the event, so we will move there as soon as we know the location.

Cis allies are encouraged to attend. Allies are needed. Trans people cannot do this alone.

Some ground rules.

1. DO NOT ENGAGE WITH ANY ATTENDEES OR WOMEN'S PLACE UK MEMBERS/SPEAKERS DIRECTLY.

Stay away if you cannot keep it together. Do not directly engage, even if you are baited. If anyone does bait you and you cannot ignore them, walk away.

2. WE ARE NOT ATTEMPTING TO STOP OR INVADE THE MEETING.

This is not the goal. This is a response, not an attack.

2. THIS IS A NON VIOLENT PROTEST.

If anyone is suspected of having any violent intentions, you will be asked to leave.

3. BRING BANNERS THAT WOULDN'T UPSET YOUR MOTHER

We want this to be a family friendly protest. Please avoid swears on your banners.

4. BRING A GUITAR

Singing is fun.

5. DO YOU DO CIRCUS THINGS? BRING CIRCUS THINGS

Every protest needs a juggler.

For some reason this is making me imagine a whole army of teeny tiny Posies, all about eighteen inches high, carrying teeny tiny weapons.

A larger version of the bucket of soldiers in Toy Story ?

DuMondeB · 08/07/2019 21:16

Crikey.

With self control issues like that, it’s definitely best they all stay home.

Datun · 08/07/2019 21:19

I’ve just read the Facebook page. They’re worried that if Posie & Julia are there they might not be able to resist attacking or abusing them. And that would make them look bad in the media & it would be all Posie & Julia’s fault.

Oh dear lord. Well, since they had to warn their comrades to not get violent, I guess it's unsurprising.

EmpressLesbianInChair · 08/07/2019 21:20

Oh dear lord. Well, since they had to warn their comrades to not get violent, I guess it's unsurprising.

And when you consider that both Posie & Julia are inconsiderate enough to be small, looming angrily over them would not be a good look.

OrchidInTheSun · 08/07/2019 21:31

What's that rule of misogyny? If men assault women, it's their fault. Something like that anyway.

Should these people even be out on the streets if they can't control anger aimed at complete strangers? It's a bit worrying really

EmpressLesbianInChair · 08/07/2019 21:33

Maybe it’s just as well they won’t be juggling.

1st rule of misogyny: Women are responsible for what men do.

4th rule of misogyny: Women's opinions are violence against men thus male violence against women is justified.

10th rule of misogyny: The worst thing about male violence is that it makes men look bad.

SophoclesTheFox · 08/07/2019 21:36

“Unfortunately, we had to cancel the planned protest against Women's Place UK and Fairplay for Women due to concerns about the safety of attendants. We heard rumour of a counter-protest by more....'radical' elements of the anti-trans community. This would have put people attending at risk of physical and psychological harm. If you wish to organise your own protest, please keep in mind that Posie Parker and Dr Julia Long may organise a counter protest where the aim may be to incite violence. We apologise for the situation, this was not how this wanted to go. If anyone ever claims that TERFs are being intimidated and silenced, I urge you tell people about this specific case where the people who had to stay silent for their safety were trans people and their allies”

From the FB page. There are some fairly frothy comments about how the main aim of feminists is not to hear speakers, but to make trans people look bad.

I honestly want the people who think like this to come. I think they really need to see the actual humans that they are conjuring into bogey men in their minds.

DuMondeB · 08/07/2019 21:37

They’ve silenced themselves! Dipshits.

Glad to see they at least addressed Julia properly.

1/10 for effort, lads.

KatnissEverbeen · 08/07/2019 21:37

The more attention the better. Bless em, protesting against fairness.

AlessandraAsteriti · 08/07/2019 21:38

The insistent pleading not to use violence shows what they really are.

SophoclesTheFox · 08/07/2019 21:38

X-post with spartacusautisticus.

I wouldn’t want to encourage angry people to attend - I mean the fearful ones. HOnest.y, it really sounds like they need to get out more.

NeurotrashWarrior · 08/07/2019 21:51

, I urge you tell people about this specific case

What the one that didn't happen?

BatShite · 08/07/2019 22:01

They were scared posie and 'her lot' would be violent towards them? Those shrinking wallflowers, who had to be specifically warned against violence to begin with?! Because yes, women holding a respectful meeting do have a tendency to be violent towards random males. Its just something women do all the time!

BatShite · 08/07/2019 22:04

Oh, did not realise that there was a page 2 to read before posting Blush

Well this^ makes a lot more sense than claiming to be terrified of Posies violent tendencies, I have to say. So basically, they have decided that no physical violence is undoable for transactivists as even just the sight of some women will force them to physically attack them, and then if the media is there, it will look bad for transactivists and it will be the fault of the women who made the TRAs attack them on purpose to make them look bad Hmm

I guess at least they admit that they are likely to become violent, not the 'terfs'. Male violence is blamed on women again of course, but whats new in that?

But we would all be completely safe in a changing room or toilet with them. And if we weren’t it would clearly be our own fault.

If a woman said no to a male/males and asserted her rights to a single sex space for safety, privacy & dignity?

Michelleoftheresistance · 08/07/2019 22:12

Between this and the JY court case, the whole movement is starting to look in less in need of political protest than a crisis team.

EmpressLesbianInChair · 08/07/2019 22:13

You mean the more ‘radical’ element of the anti-trans community causing psychological harm?

I wonder how many other people are aware that middle aged mothers are the most terrifying demographic in the world? It's truly amazing that our families can sleep soundly at night.

Grin Grin Grin

Datun · 08/07/2019 22:35

Oh dear lord. Now they look like utter wankers. It's not even Posie and Julia's meeting...

DuMondeB · 08/07/2019 22:37

‘We can’t possibly attend, there is a chance Posie might drive past the venue whilst giving us a hard Paddington stare’
