TRAs planning a protest against A Woman's Place meeting on July 10th

The theme of the WPUK meeting is Why female sport matters, and why we must protect it. Effectively the TRAs are protesting against fairness in women's sports.

Details of their protest are below. Protesters are advised not to be violent, to carry offensive banners, or to try and physically stop the meeting from going ahead. 'This is a response, not an attack.'

Women's place UK are a transphobic hate group that work towards the rolling back of trans rights. Their meetings are recruitment drives where they peddle transphobia and their endless justifications for transphobia.

This is happening in our town. Where we live. We need to show them that we won't let hatred towards our trans brothers, sisters and everyone else stand without a response. A fun, musical, party response.

The protest itself will not be taking place at the National Gallery. That is only the meeting place due to it being a large area next to several decent transport routes. Women's Place UK don't release the venue until several hours before the event, so we will move there as soon as we know the location.

Cis allies are encouraged to attend. Allies are needed. Trans people cannot do this alone.

Some ground rules.

1. DO NOT ENGAGE WITH ANY ATTENDEES OR WOMEN'S PLACE UK MEMBERS/SPEAKERS DIRECTLY.

Stay away if you cannot keep it together. Do not directly engage, even if you are baited. If anyone does bait you and you cannot ignore them, walk away.

2. WE ARE NOT ATTEMPTING TO STOP OR INVADE THE MEETING.

This is not the goal. This is a response, not an attack.

2. THIS IS A NON VIOLENT PROTEST.

If anyone is suspected of having any violent intentions, you will be asked to leave.

3. BRING BANNERS THAT WOULDN'T UPSET YOUR MOTHER

We want this to be a family friendly protest. Please avoid swears on your banners.

4. BRING A GUITAR

Singing is fun.

5. DO YOU DO CIRCUS THINGS? BRING CIRCUS THINGS

Every protest needs a juggler.

That is hilariously convoluted logic.
They made us cancel the protest because we didn't feel safe because they might be present making us feel so unsafe we would attack them.
It's like they read about the lesbian protestors feeling they had to leave pride to avoid being assaulted and wanted to copy, only they were lacking any actual threat or indeed a protest to call off.

This is turning out to be a very disappointing remake of West Side Story.

It's not even Posie and Julia's meeting...

I was a little baffled by that - it's as if Posie and Julia have acquired a Kray Twins mythology around them to the point where the mere thought of a topic vaguely related to their interests is a sufficient deterrent. Confused

Given that most women above a certain age are treated as if they're invisible and imbecilic, I suppose this has a rather cheering upside.

That's what I was thinking. Why would Posie and Julia be there?

It's like saying we can't go because the boogeyman/yeti/scary clown/Loch Ness monster is going to be there. Honest guv.

I went to the Todmorden meeting and there was one lonely bloke* handing out lollipops. Gluten free, one assumes.
I was disappointed, I tell you.

ByGrabtharsHammarWhatASaving · 08/07/2019 23:46

If anyone ever claims that TERFs are being intimidated and silenced, I urge you tell people about this specific case where the people who had to stay silent for their safety were trans people and their allies

Translation:

"We couldn't find anyone to come protest so rather than have 3 people stood around like twats we've made up a threat and cancelled so we can use it as pretend evidence of a pretend threat to justify our own very real future threats."

OvaHere · 08/07/2019 23:52

I think they know that this meeting (already moved to a larger venue due to popularity) is going to be widely reported on and therefore have a public impact. The Daily Mail in particular seem quite fond of Sharron and like to report on everything she does.

WeirdWoman · 08/07/2019 23:56

I like Posie, but isn't she banned from WPUK?

OccasionalKite · 08/07/2019 23:58

It's Rick from the Young Ones!

BatShite · 09/07/2019 00:02

I like Posie, but isn't she banned from WPUK?

Odd that you seemed to join to say this?

Anyway, I think from memory, Posie is banned from being a WPUK speaker. This does not (I don't think?) mean she is banned from attending meetings. Though maybe it does mean that. Not sure. Either way, unsure how the 'POSIE WILL BE THERE! WE ARE TERRIFIED AND MUST CANCEL OUR ABSOLUTELY NONVIOLENT PROTEST AS WE CANNOT GUARANTEE NO VIOLENCE AS SHE WILL MAKE US BE VIOLENT!' came about.

OccasionalKite · 09/07/2019 00:02

Damn, conversation has moved on since I wrote!

I meant, those messages from the "London Against Transphobia" group, read to me like Rick from the Young Ones!

WeirdWoman · 09/07/2019 00:10

@BatShite

I hadn't joined to say this. I'm a regular, but I change my name every month or so.

Just to be clear, I wasn't having a go at Posie or WPUK. I like both of them. I just seem to remember a falling out a while back?

GrimDamnFanjo · 09/07/2019 00:12

That's utterly pathetic. I'm disappointed really as I was hoping they'd be able explain why XY in women's sports is fair - obvs through the medium of juggling.

BatShite · 09/07/2019 00:24

Yeah there was a falling out. WPUK removed her as a speaker for some things she had said online. I am not sure if she was 'banned' as in not allowed to go to meetings though, I doubt it and hope not as thats a bit extreme. Mind, she might not want to go to them, given her treatment.

Eiher way, I am not 100% tbh. I do know she was removed from being a speaker though, but banned in the technical sense, I don't think she was.

Melroses · 09/07/2019 00:26

They’ve silenced themselves! Dipshits.

That made me laugh Grin

WeirdWoman · 09/07/2019 00:27

I guess it shows that the protestors haven't done their research. It is extremely unlikely that Posie will be there, I think? That was more my point.

OccasionalKite · 09/07/2019 00:30

And now I can't help seeing the attempt to portray Posie and Dr Julia Long to us, somewhat as Python's Doug and Dinsdale!

"Interviewer: He nailed your head to the floor?

Vince: At first yeah."

So....
Who might Spiny Norman be in this scenario, eh?
Wink

BatShite · 09/07/2019 00:49

I see Blush

Yes, that makes sense. Sorry, so used to having people sign up just to get people het up about Posie. Whenever shes mentioned, a new account will pop up just to let people know that they do like her, but shes actually a demon and anyone who won't publically criticize her for whatever heinous act they deem she has done now, is basically a right wing bigot!..or something that I did assume you of the same vein. Apologies. Seriously.

WeirdWoman · 09/07/2019 00:53

@BatShite

It's no problem. I could have articulated myself better.

I love Posie. She doesn't deserve 90% of the shit she gets.

WhereAreWeNow · 09/07/2019 06:48

Aw so no juggling? How disappointing.

FredaFrogspawn · 09/07/2019 07:11

This is turning out to be a very disappointing remake of West Side Story.

Everyone needs dancing shoes and there could be a sing off. I feel an entire musical coming on from this.

drspouse · 09/07/2019 07:17

So: inciting violence.
Not: telling your supporters they'd be justified in using violence.
But rather: existing while female and/or saying things someone other than your supporters agree with.
