Are you a real woman?

article

Notice how the author was instructed to delete woman's hour because she didn't like something Jenny Murray said. Let's silence any dissenting voices that don't accept womanhood is a mere feeling inside.

(as an aside is woman's hour any good? I always associate Radio 4 with twee middle class Englishness and the odd time I listen when I am in the Highlands and can't get any other radio signal in the car I end up getting annoyed with it and switch off)

Objecting to being told by a lesbian that I should consider sexual activity with a set of genitals that I would find as repulsive as a lesbian would find a penis?

I don't read the quoted post that way at all? I guess it could be read that way, and obviously has been. But what I see it saying is consider if patriarchy has had an impact on your sexuality. Not that you should consider taking up cunnilingus as a straight woman.

LassOfFyvie · 08/07/2019 18:18

No placemat. I as a woman found the comments about why I should have considered being a lesbian just as bad as Riley Dennis' comments.

You (general you ) might not like hearing that , but tough. Your (general your) not liking it doesn't give you (general you) the right to tell me to shut up.

LassOfFyvie · 08/07/2019 18:21

Yes, because it was patriarchy which made me straight. Yeah right. Nothing to do with not actually being sexually attracted to women- maybe if I'd tried harder.

Omg hi 👋 Smile Menuplant

Anti-feminism on a feminist board is trolling. It doesn't fit the Mumsnet criteria for trolling though I believe.

Give a singular definition of feminism which all people agree with whether they identity as feminist or not.

If you can do that then you've done what no one else has achieved.

Indeed the whole point of FWR to me is to discuss the definition of what feminism is or is not and how that affects women and to ever revise and review how we see and approach feminism.

I think you are deliberately missing the point when you post a singular definition from a rad fem pov!

sakura184 · 08/07/2019 18:42

I just don't think anything else is feminism

BatShite · 08/07/2019 19:21

Yes, thats exactly what was said Hmm

I would agree with this personally. But I do know that many others think 'liberal feminism' i also feminism, even though it tends to centre..men and what men would want, and fucking cocks as always.

BatShite · 08/07/2019 19:22

Cut off before I finished.

Its of course possible that there is more than radical feminism that..is feminism.

I think a lot depends on the definition you give to feminism too. If its about womens liberation or the more recent version of 'wanting equality with men'.

Ereshkigal · 08/07/2019 19:28

Its of course possible that there is more than radical feminism that..is feminism.

I agree there is. But I don't think "feminism" which centres males and their various demands rather than women and girls is worthy of the name. It's a category error.

You've posted that in 2 threads. Don't know if the link works for others but this is what I get.

Are you a real woman?
sakura184 · 08/07/2019 19:39

Anything can be feminism is exactly the same line of thought as "anyone can be a woman"

MenuPlant · 09/07/2019 08:29
