Police called to National Theatre to deal with gender critical feminists sitting on chairs

twitter.com/DadRogd/status/1147181198231429124 has picture of the unfortunate police officer sent to investigate.

Earlier in his tweet thread he says:

National Theatre Green Room bar just refused to serve us. Their grounds? Allegedly, we are a political group with views a member of staff finds offensive. So they offend a dozen customers instead.

Problem is apparently with t-shirt worn by Anne Ruzylo sporting a dictionary definition of a lesbian. As someone else has pointed out the NT is in breach of the Equality Act, given that sexual orientation and sex are both protected characteristics. I wonder how this will play out.

I was trying to decide which t shirt to buy. This has decided me. Is anyone going to take this to court . A thing which can't be named could be started..

AncientLights · 06/07/2019 12:25

Am very happy to contribute to the thing we can't name but the decision to persue this must be made first. Is Anne R on here, do we know?

Datun · 06/07/2019 12:26

Lesbianism- the definition that dare not speak its name.

BingBongSong · 06/07/2019 12:33

Just posting to add my support for Anne Ruzylo, whom I found to be knowledgeable and compassionate when I heard her speak.

It's worth re-posting the We Need to Talk About Women meeting in Manchester last year - excellent speakers and speeches. Anne speaks from 28 minutes in.

placemats · 06/07/2019 12:40

Well dogs are allowed in the NT.

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 06/07/2019 12:42

Of course ChattyLion! It was an idea started on here anyway. I've ended up buying multipacks of cards and stamps, and then I always have one handy to fire off a little note of support or thanks or both to people who are willing to be visible faces when so many of us can't.

placemats · 06/07/2019 12:47

Anne is indeed compassionate and knowledgeable. She is also a wonderful and lovely woman.

BeyondOverTheMoon · 06/07/2019 13:07

Placemats, well... I’m sure the fetishists will be glad to know that - once they’ve finished their #PrideinLondon dogwalk - they’ll be welcome in the NT bar...

placemats · 06/07/2019 13:15

Woof!

TransposersArePosers · 06/07/2019 13:23

NotAnotherFeckingMuftiDay that link is quite a read.

I liked this tweet from Gracey Shaw - Provide a list of which of the LGBT+ community are excluded from the NT, and why. The L is reserved for XX chromosome women with same sex attraction. If your staff have issues with this they need diversity training and you are failing in your responsibilities as an employer

AlwaysComingHome · 06/07/2019 13:25

’are the demands they're making reasonable?'

Well, this is considered good enough when dealing with people with disabilities. The whole concept of ‘reasonable adjustments’ rests on reasonability. No employer is expected to comply with unreasonable demands. Employers may supply you with specialist chairs or keyboards but they aren’t expected to keep a supply of spare iron lungs just in case.

Same goes for religious exemptions. Is this a reasonable exemption? If it is, an employer may supply halal or kosher food, prayer rooms, or excuse you certain duties during religious periods.

TRA demands go way beyond what is reasonable.

So a man announcing they are male doesn't get refused service. Extraordinary how tolerant the world has become.

BatShite · 06/07/2019 14:40

I cannot get over the press office backing up this decision, then the decision to double down on the law break by posting that statement on twitter 'explaining' that they absolutely did refuse to serve a lesbian because she was a lesbian wearing a tshirt that identified her as a lesbian and lesbians wearing tshirts and having opinions, and simply existing near them made a member of staff feel unsafe.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 06/07/2019 14:43

The staff needs re-education. Or some soul searching as to whether they are fit to work with people. Or sacked for being homophobic. Any of the above really.

TurboTeddy · 06/07/2019 14:51

Do we know if Anne is planning to take any action against them for discrimination?

They served a gay man but refused a lesbian because her t shirt stated a lesbian is a woman that loves other women. They then implied that the group had breached visitor guidelines, there is zero evidence of this which NT know so they then moved on to a statement about the groups behaviour making a member of staff feel unsafe. They have received multiple requests on twitter for further clarification but have failed to supply it.

I think they know they are screwed on discrimination for both sex and sexuality.

tobee · 06/07/2019 15:41

I've been churning this over in my mind.

Just wondering if anyone knows exactly what happened. The lesbians went into the bar. The staff refused to serve them. The gay man was served. The lesbians were not thrown out.

But at what point were the police called? Who called them?

I just don't understand why the police were called?

What were the police told?

Bad enough to not serve the lesbians. But to call the police....

We all know how overstretched the police are.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 06/07/2019 15:46

But haven’t you heard?

Scaring a poor wee trans personage/trans familiar is literally the absolute worst thing any person can do.

All you have to do to scare one of these strange, timid and nervous shrinking violets is to quote biology at them or call them by the pronoun that they aren’t thinking of at that moment. Or be a lesbian.

And it’s actually now illegal to be a lesbian. I believe they are now deported to Tasmania.

Manderleyagain · 06/07/2019 16:10

Was they gay man who was served part of the same party?

Aspley · 06/07/2019 16:23

Something that others have alluded to is why exactly did this staff member feel so afraid of lesbians/GC feminists?
What has this person been told that lead to this reaction?
I can't think of any actual instances of a GC lesbian making any threats or similar against a trans individual.
The blame here (imo) points to the lies that their own activists spread. If anyone is making anyone feel unsafe it is the people who spread the type of lies that a GC feminist is a threat to anyone.
They all got carried away by the bullshit tales of razor blades behind stickers, and if anyone has ever spent anytime in the tra echo chambers on twitter the stuff they say is ridiculous.

TurboTeddy · 06/07/2019 16:24

Manderleyagain
Yes he was. He was wearing a T shirt that said bum boy on it. Smile

finnmcool · 06/07/2019 16:36

@tobee the women were initially served food and drinks. They were sitting down and chatting.
Security told the women to leave or they would call the police.
The women were not protesting at this point, the bar was not directly next to the protest point as some have reported.
Not only was the man in the bum boy t-shirt served, another male member of their group was served. It was only the women who were refused service.

placemats · 06/07/2019 16:45

It was only the women who were refused service.

I'm lost for words on this.

Runs off to check that bank account is still up and running.

Imnobody4 · 06/07/2019 16:46

I've been in a state of outrage all day. It's the equivalent of refusing to serve someone wearing a Black Lives Matter t shirt and claiming it's because it represents an extreme group intent on white genocide.

I am so furious that an organisation like the National Theatre can't recognise supporting diversity means exercising neutrality.

TheBigBallOfOil · 06/07/2019 16:50

There’s some instructive, unconscious reaction going on here. Man with possibly offensive slogan on t shirt - that’s within the rules of engagement. Women making assertions relating to autonomy/exclusivity of their group - now that, we cannot have.
Nothing is more frightening to a certain type of person than a women who is truly independent of men.
