Police called to National Theatre to deal with gender critical feminists sitting on chairs

twitter.com/DadRogd/status/1147181198231429124 has picture of the unfortunate police officer sent to investigate.

Earlier in his tweet thread he says:

National Theatre Green Room bar just refused to serve us. Their grounds? Allegedly, we are a political group with views a member of staff finds offensive. So they offend a dozen customers instead.

Problem is apparently with t-shirt worn by Anne Ruzylo sporting a dictionary definition of a lesbian. As someone else has pointed out the NT is in breach of the Equality Act, given that sexual orientation and sex are both protected characteristics. I wonder how this will play out.

Interesting tweet from Anne

Thanks for that CharlieParley. That makes a whole load more sense than the NT version of events.

I'd read a tweet by someone who was there who said the posters had all been put away before they went into the bar.

CharlieParley · 06/07/2019 20:36

Just seen the quote from the Guardian re placards:

Multiple members of the group have stated that they put the placards away in their car a full hour before they entered this bar. There is a video and a number of photos of the group in which not a single placard can be seen.

They were refused service because a member of staff took exception to their self-identification as exclusively same-sex attracted females and challenged them about their suspected presence at a protest at last year's Pride parade. AFAIK, the staff did not refer to yesterday's protest (and it is unclear whether they even knew about it).

TurboTeddy · 06/07/2019 20:38

Someone needs to wrestle the shovel away from the NT!

Juells · 06/07/2019 20:38

Sue!

CharlieParley · 06/07/2019 20:44

See for yourself, here is the video of the group's conversation with the police officer - no placards to be seen (and those placards were huge, so if they still had them, they'd be visible).

Popchyk · 06/07/2019 20:49

Can't see any placards in the video, no.

And these "multiple witnesses" I'm guessing were not there at the time and hastily amassed by the trans cult in order to tell lies afterwards. I'm guessing that the NT just believed these witnesses who suddenly came forward today.

CCTV will reveal all.

And the two police officers will be able to bear witness to this "series of disturbances", won't they? And be able to explain why they made no arrests, given the alleged abusive behaviour of the perpetrators. Who better to give a unbiased account of what transpired?

OvaHere · 06/07/2019 20:52

Outrageous that the NT are telling such blatant lies. It's clear from the videos that none of the materials from the protest are present there. It's not like they were short of eye witnesses either. In one of Posie's videos they were explaining the situation to an off duty police officer.

I do hope they take legal action because this is a clear breach of the equality act and now defamation to boot.

CharlieParley · 06/07/2019 20:54

Anne also clarified on Twitter that it was indeed the t-shirts that kicked this off - they were directly challenged by a member of staff* on what the slogans (lesbian = women who love other women / lesbian = female homosexual) were inferring. Then the staff discussed the group amongst themselves, then asked if they had been part of last year's Get the L Out, then they were refused service.

*whom Anne identifies as a lesbian, not trans as the other member of her group did. Let's just say an LGBT-identfied staff member.

kesstrel · 06/07/2019 20:57

The Guardian reporter, Vanessa Thorpe, used an incorrect Twitter handle to a fake account to ask Anne Ruzylo to contact her:

twitter.com/vanessathorpe/status/1147462012194234368

Sloppy. No wonder she didn't get a response.

Popchyk · 06/07/2019 21:03

The guy wearing the "Bum Boy" slogan t-shirt was served drinks.

The staff had no issue with him.

Just the women.

I'm guessing that the NT just believed these witnesses who suddenly came forward today.

The NT knew exactly what it was doing. Think a bicycle and back peddling. Also a big giant hole, which is in danger of reaching to the earth's core.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 06/07/2019 21:10

The thing with modern day life - phones with cameras and all - lies always get called out.

BatShite · 06/07/2019 21:12

The Guardian reporter, Vanessa Thorpe, used an incorrect Twitter handle to a fake account to ask Anne Ruzylo to contact her:

I figure that was done on purpose. Why would there be a random I in the middle of the username? Definitely done so she could claim fake innocence later, in my opinion anyway, and especially now with the faux 'I didn't know I did anything wrong, why did you not message me?!' tweets to anne.

The article is just blatant lies. Lies that can be proven by the cctv..f they don't wipe it to hide the bullshit. The video posie took though, was of the same time and there are no placards in sight, and given they were large, you would be able to see them at some stage in the video if thy were there. The police are also witness to this, wonder i they saw any placards or disruptive behaviour, or anything to make people feel unsafe. Hmm

Popchyk · 06/07/2019 21:12

The journalist, Vanessa Thorpe, tweets:

twitter.com/vanessathorpe/status/1147597384920240128

"Did this not get through to you @sargesaIute ? I tried as soon as I was asked to write the story this pm. Assumed you were marching when we heard nothing. The Observer Newsdesk thought it important to report the incident - unpopular decision for some on both sides, but still."

Interesting that the Observer Newsdesk decided to report on it. Because its sister paper The Guardian would be too terrified to cover discrimination against lesbians of course.

And also interesting that the journalist mentions "unpopular decision for some on both sides" at the Observer. Suggests that the trans cult hasn't taken over completely there yet.

placemats · 06/07/2019 21:16

Yeah right Vanessa! Grin

MindTheMinotaur · 06/07/2019 21:18

I'm shocked to see how the staff responded l hope the lesbians know that we support them and we will do anything to help💌😄 (message to Anne and crew from my furious DD)

EverardDigby · 06/07/2019 21:19

So basically she put in a capital I so it still looks like sargesalute with a little L. Confused me for a bit as they looked the same. Seems like a strange "mistake" to make, you could understand it if it was the other way round.

Popchyk · 06/07/2019 21:20

Journalist Vanessa Thorpe again:

twitter.com/sargesalute/status/1147587937598681089

"I did ask you to follow me so I could DM you early this afternoon. Did it not get through to you @sargesaIute ? Assumed you were marching when heard nothing. The Observer Newsdesk keen to report the incident from the first. If no placards the NT story is wrong".

If no placards the NT story is wrong.

Yep.

That's the story, Vanessa. The cover-up. It's always the cover-up.

JoxerGoesToStuttgart · 06/07/2019 21:28

These began with their refusal to put placards out of sight that featured messages which upset other customers and contravened our visiting policy, and culminated in abusive behaviour towards our staff.

I’ve seen several videos including ones of the police in attendance and there isn’t a single mention of placards or abusive behaviour. If there were the police absolutely would have removed the offenders. BUT they didn’t. They didn’t even mention placards.

ThePurported · 06/07/2019 21:31

Few years ago Stonewall would have been all over this.
Ruth Hunt, WHAT HAVE YOU DONE?

TurboTeddy · 06/07/2019 21:32

So the journalist from The Observer deliberately sabotaged her attempt to contact Anne so she wouldn't have to include her side of the story in the article. Have I got that right?

OrchidInTheSun · 06/07/2019 21:35

Bloody hell, even for the shitshow that is the Guardian, that article is woeful.

My primary school kids have got better investigative skills than Vanessa Thorpe. What an embarrassment

Popchyk · 06/07/2019 21:39

From the Observer article:

"The small group, who arrived with placards, included Anne Ruzylo, a political activist and former member of the Bexhill and Battle Labour party, who on Friday night was one of those who complained on Twitter.

Anne Ruzylo, who was wearing a T-shirt bearing the slogan “Lesbian: a woman who loves other women”, tweeted that staff at the Green Room had “called the police to have women and lesbians removed because they don’t like the T-shirts we are wearing”.

So the journalist knows that it was Anne Ruzylo, because the journalist saw the tweet from Anne Ruzylo. And the journalist reported on that tweet.

But the journalist didn't know Anne Ruzylo's twitter handle. Despite the journalist writing about Anne Ruzylo's tweet and quoting it verbatim in the article.

Odd.
