Mum's fury after transgender suicide teen sold hormones from illegal online clinic

A Cambridgeshire mum is calling for a new inquest to question doctors who were found to be offering unregulated hormone treatments online

www.cambridge-news.co.uk/news/cambridge-news/transgender-treatment-nhs-webberley-jayden-16504026

A heartbroken Cambridgeshire mum of a transgender teenager who took his own life is calling for a second inquest after finding out he had hormone treatment from unregulated online doctors.

Jayden Lowe, 18, paid £30 a month for private therapy after facing a six-year wait with the NHS, his inquest heard.

Married doctors Mike and Helen Webberley have both received an interim suspension by the British Medical Council pending an investigation, after they set up their unregulated gender treatment service.

Jayden received hormone treatment in the post for "a few months" before he stepped in front of a train on September 28, 2018.

The "He was part of the 'pride club' run by a transgender teacher" bothers me.

I notice that a lot of young people have no notion of transgenderism until it is promoted to them as a fix for all their problems.

Who wouldn't grab at it?

SarahTancredi · 30/06/2019 10:59

I'm sure inread something on another thread about a young teen attending LGBTQ support groups/clubs and how the meetings ended up being much older transgender participants discussing sex lives infront of the young girls attending ...

I cant remember what thread though...

howonearthdidwegethere · 30/06/2019 11:01

That is awful, just utterly heartbreaking.

OvaHere · 30/06/2019 11:02

Sarah I think that was taken from a Benjamin Boyce interview with a young detransitioned woman. Can't remember her name but she does quite a lot of GC activism now.

Lumene · 30/06/2019 11:05

No one truly knows why this person or anyone committed suicide. It must be an awful time for their family. Speculating on why this happened is just that - speculation.

BackOnceAgainWithABurnerEmail · 30/06/2019 11:16

Yep and so many of these clubs seem to be behind closed doors, and without parental knowledge, in the name of confidentiality. So what you have is a group of vulnerable kids with one adult and no oversight. If it was the drama teacher or scout master it won’t be tolerated but LGBT is a magically phrase which these people use to do whatever they want.

EweSurname · 30/06/2019 11:18

sarahtancredi is this what you were thinking of?

These LGBT/Pride groups - which seem to be all about the T now - are stepping in (often very well funded too) to fill the massive gaps in mental health support for children.

TheMostBeautifulDogInTheWorld · 30/06/2019 11:23

And wtf with The Tavi sending them a leaflet telling them to expect to be suicidal. Completely against Samaritans guidance.

This is so gobsmacking that I'm hoping it's not true - that the leaflets etc were not from the Tavistock after all but were (say) Mermaids stuff instead, and the parents didn't realise. Otherwise it just seems so ... I mean, it's so fucked up it can't be possible, if you see what I mean.

Might be GNC Ben? She certainly describes this.

SarahTancredi · 30/06/2019 11:28

ewe

Yes I think that's it. Different link to the one in the threads I think but same person/story

Probably the worst place for a struggling lesbian to ever be where they find out just how much everyone hates them Sad

PancakeAndKeith · 30/06/2019 11:36

I’m willing to accept that being trans is not a mental health problem. However there can be a lot of other mental health problems that run alongside it. I believe it is possible that a person could believe they are trans when in reality they need some mental health care. The huge problem is that no one is allowed to question someone’s trans status.

Yes Ben (GNC Centric) interviewed by Benjamin Boyce as above.

Ben's article should be read by as wide an audience as possible.
It seems apparent that usual best practice & Safeguarding expectations for youth workers is disregarded in some LGBT+ groups.

This exposes girls & young women to unacceptable risks from adult males:

'My Trans Youth Group Experience with Morgan Page'
(extract)
"Most of the time, the Trans Youth Group attendees were majority MTFs and “nonbinary” (NB) males. There was an upper age limit (somewhere between 21-25) but it was a pretty small group, usually fewer than 10 people; so when people aged out they just stuck around. I guess others learned that the age limit wasn’t being enforced because more and more older (30-40 year old) MTFs started to join.

I remember one day, there were three MTFs over 40 who were hitting on the teen FTMs, very explicitly. It was obviously making us uncomfortable, but almost no one ever said anything, only changed the topic or tried to engage them in a conversation away from us. The only time I remember them being asked to leave was when Morgan was a way and the group was led by an FTM substitute.

It was very common for the group to discuss the logistics of sex before and after SRS, kinky sex, and erotic fanfiction. I remember Morgan asking the three teens in the room, including me, if we were comfortable talking about this, but obviously we weren’t going to say no now that the conversation had already been started by these older people. I know of at least three FTMs who entered into relationships with older MTFs while in this group, all of which seemed very unhealthy to me. To me, FTMs under 18 dating or sleeping with (usually kinky) MTFs over 20 seemed very sexually exploitative. Healthy boundaries between adults and minors were foreign to this group, much like in the greater queer and trans community." (continues)

Article above refers to a Youth group in Canada.
Morgan Page was reported as working for Stonewall UK December 2018

After the £500,000 given to Mermaids, the same amount has gone to Stonewall to ‘empower transgender leaders’

WorkingItOutAsIGo · 30/06/2019 11:46

So sad. RIP.

But all the classic tropes - young lesbian with ASD. Bullied in school until comes out as trans and then becomes feted. Grooming in plain sight.

The teacher should be investigated. The Webberleys should be investigated. And the lack of mental heath support is what’s most wrong here.

R0wantrees · 30/06/2019 11:48

Its utterly tragic.

Appalling the extent this young person & their family have been failed.

MangoesAreMyFavourite · 30/06/2019 11:51

The article is so misleading with all the mis-sexing going on.

The real story - lesbian bullied.... takes testosterone... etc. Reading it initially, I was thinking it's a boy with a pink hoodie.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 30/06/2019 12:06

The Webberleys should be investigated

I'm fairly gobsmacked that there seems no way to shut that pair down.

Their Q & A on their website (gendergp.co.uk/questions_answers/) is fairly alarming. Can be summed up as "we know best and anyone who says otherwise is a transphobe".

LangCleg · 30/06/2019 12:09

Grooming in plain sight.

This.

2BthatUnnoticed · 30/06/2019 12:30

I’m in shock. A doctor prescribed medication of this type without even meeting the patient!? WTH?

They’ll be struck off, surely.

When this was reported a few months ago, it sounded like Jayden had sourced the drugs from an online site. But these Drs actually prescribed them Shock

It’s clear that Jayden’s parents and sister loved him very much. I’m mindful that they or others who knew Jayden might see the thread - gentle thoughts to them, if so Flowers

ChattyLion · 30/06/2019 12:35

Oh dear god this poor child and their poor parents. Flowers they have been very badly let down. We have long been saying that there urgently needs to be abundant mental health support and the availability of talking therapies for all children and young people. (Whatever the cause of their distress).

Absolutely this ^^
all thoughts should be for Jaydens family & friends

Yes. Same story covered in The Mirror

Featuring Jayden's artwork. Very talented.

This was on the BBC website last week though I notice it is year old. It seems dodgy websites run from abroad by doctors struck off in the UK are not new. Notice there is a link to a certain TV doctor too.
