Just spotted this. 30th June. The “gender fluidity of childhood”. Giving children “queer role models”. Good Grief. www.nationalgallery.org.uk/events/drag-queen-story-time-30-06-2019

Is he asking kids to DM him or adults?

That tweet suggests to me that he means twitter users. Whilst I understand kids do use Twitter (and I think you have to be 13 to use Twitter- again I know kids get round this) but would that tweet not suggest he’s asking adults to DM him?

screeching through your thin lips

Nice.

Drag is NOT sexualising nor parodying women.

Of course it is. What are they meant to be, if not exaggerated, over-sexualised "women" performers? It's not acceptable to blackface anymore - why are drag queens ok? Oh, silly me, it's because it's just women....

truthisarevolutionaryact · 07/08/2019 16:23

Wow Butters
screeching through your thin lips steal your snotty little brats away Don't be a bigot Grin

Butters83 · 07/08/2019 16:24

zebrasdontwearbras

You can read my earlier comment explaining what it is.

Butters83 · 07/08/2019 16:24

truthisarevolutionaryact white women really are something else lol

truthisarevolutionaryact · 07/08/2019 16:27

Deliriumof the endless
It's a reasonable question, but if you set yourself up to work with young children - which he is - then you have to be extra cautious to ensure that children don't misunderstand - by saying "get your parents to email me" etc. It's basic safeguarding.

XXcstatic · 07/08/2019 16:28

Drag emphasizes the power in femininity and female sexuality . Its not mocking

Oh really? Explain all the fish jokes, then.

zebrasdontwearbras · 07/08/2019 16:28

What, this little nugget, butter? "Drag emphasizes the power in femininity and female sexuality"

I don't we need that, performed by men, do we?

I can't think why kids need to see "emphasized" female sexuality at libraries?

YourVagesty · 07/08/2019 16:30

agree with pickledgulag

It's really fucking offensive to me. You wouldn't have somebody in blackface hosting an event like this! So why is it not only okay, but something to celebrate, to pantomime women?

GRRRRRRRRRRR

ZuttZeVootEeeVro · 07/08/2019 16:31

Drag is NOT sexualising nor parodying women.

Drag emphasizes the power in femininity and female sexuality

Make up your fucking mind.

SunsetBeetch · 07/08/2019 16:31

Not liking drag queens is bigoted now, is it?LOLZZZ

Butters83 · 07/08/2019 16:31

zebrasdontwearbras twist my words but ok. I was explaining why drag is not mocking women. Thats obviously not the reason there are countless childrens drag reading groups over the world now.

XXcstatic I literally cant? Like any group of people there will always be pockets of people using tasteless language and ideas. There are many articles and interviews with drag artists discussing this and how they need to do more to stamp it out.

Butters83 · 07/08/2019 16:32

SunsetBeetch You dont have to like drag queens. But you also dont get to call them all perverts? which is basically whats happening on this thread.

Deliriumoftheendless · 07/08/2019 16:33

Truth I agree with your point but I’d err on the side of caution here, that it’s a badly worded request rather than an attempt to get kids to message privately.

Nobody's called them perverts, have they? Just not appropriate for children

Deliriumoftheendless · 07/08/2019 16:35

By caution I mean I’m not prepared to accuse this person if ill intent on the evidence of that tweet.

Butters83 · 07/08/2019 16:36

SunsetBeetch so how did it quickly turn into Munroe Bergdof asking children to message her? She isnt even a drag queen.
Its that insidious implied tone .....

zebrasdontwearbras · 07/08/2019 16:38

Butters, could you then explain how men performing femininity to "emphasise female sexuality" is not sexualising women?

Why do we need men to do this? And what benefit is it for children to see "emphasised female sexuality" as performed by men?

Some parents think taking their kid to the US for drugs and Thailand for surgery is a good idea. Others think drag shows are good for theirs.

No fucking way my kids are going to be doing either whatever anyone calls me.

When some told my dd she could be a nurse not a Dr i swiftly pointed out a list of wonderful female Drs. I will take my kids to the Science museum, teach them about architecture and engineering and make sure thry meet male and females who do these jobs.

My son can play with dolls and learn to be caring and learn from his dad who shates child care.

That is providing role models - not some bloke doing a parody of woman - yes it is a parody!

ZuttZeVootEeeVro · 07/08/2019 16:41

ZuttZeVootEeeVro do sentences with long words confuse you? I can send you some crayon pictures if that helps you understand.

I'll get my pre schooler to send you their email, shall I?

Birdsfoottrefoil · 07/08/2019 16:41

As you pointed out drag is about emphasising sexuality and why would men be interested in emphasising sexuality to young children? Teaching then sexualised dances? Which group of men would consider it a good idea?
