Just spotted this. 30th June. The “gender fluidity of childhood”. Giving children “queer role models”. Good Grief. www.nationalgallery.org.uk/events/drag-queen-story-time-30-06-2019

The benefit for children is to learn that there are lots of different and wonderful people in the world. Its not sexual at all.

FormerMediocreMale · 07/08/2019 16:42

Parody

produce a humorously exaggerated imitation of...

Pretty much sums up drag.

Butters83 · 07/08/2019 16:43

Sexuality and sex are two different things.

And they arent teaching them either.

Birdsfoottrefoil · 07/08/2019 16:44

Drag emphasizes the power in femininity and female sexuality

And Its not sexual at all

Which one is it then?

sexuality
noun
sexual character; possession of the structural and functional traits of sex.
recognition of or emphasis upon sexual matters.
involvement in sexual activity.
an organism's preparedness for engaging in sexual activity.

FormerMediocreMale · 07/08/2019 16:47

Sexuality

Human sexuality is the way people experience and express themselves sexually. This involves biological, erotic, physical...

Nothing to see, sexuality is nothing to do with sex, fingers in eats "la la la"

zebrasdontwearbras · 07/08/2019 16:47

Butters, how is emphasising female sexuality not sexual?
There are all sorts of wonderful people in the world, but I'm still unclear as to how a drag queen twerking in a library specifically benefits children?

Generally, parents try to protect their kids from over-sexualised content - not take them to libraries to see it, and interact.

Butters83 · 07/08/2019 16:47

oh hey look i can paste stuff off the internet too

Sex refers to whether or not a person is male or female, whether a person has a penis or vagina. Many of you may have noticed on different forms you have completed for school or at the doctor’s office that there is often a question on the form called "Sex." You are required to check either male or female. Sex is also commonly used as an abbreviation to refer to sexual intercourse.
Sexuality refers to the total expression of who you are as a human being, your femaleness or your maleness. Our sexuality begins at birth and ends at death. Everyone is a sexual being. Your sexuality is an interplay between body image, gender identity, gender role, sexual orientation, eroticism, genitals, intimacy, relationships, and love and affection. A person's sexuality includes his or her attitudes, values, knowledge and behaviors. How people express their sexuality is influenced by their families, culture, society, faith and beliefs.

zebrasdontwearbras · 07/08/2019 16:49

Where's that quote from? The big book of Queer Theory?

zebrasdontwearbras · 07/08/2019 16:52

Are you aware that there are quite inescapable links between Queer Theory and sexualising children and paedophilia?

Such as talking about children as "sexual beings" and campaigning against the age of consent?

truthisarevolutionaryact · 07/08/2019 16:52

Deliriumoftheendless
I agree that it a badly worded tweet.
But I make no apologies for insisting that adults working with children (no matter what capacity) must understand and comply with basic safeguarding rules.

zebrasdontwearbras · 07/08/2019 16:53

Do you actually think we're all silly mummies on this forum, clutching our pearls? That we haven't read up about this stuff?

We see you.

Butters83 · 07/08/2019 16:55

zebrasdontwearbras its actually from the Adolescent Pregnancy Prevention (ReCAPP), but go off.

Deliriumoftheendless · 07/08/2019 16:55

I don’t disagree with that Truth.

Shit like this is really showing up how people don’t actually think beyond the gravy train though.

VickyEadie · 07/08/2019 16:56

A bunch of (mostly) white women screeching

your snotty little brats

screeching through your thin lips

You've laid out your views of women - especially those who might be mothers - quite precisely here, Butters.

GCAcademic · 07/08/2019 16:58

Yes, it’s really quite telling, isn’t it, Vicky?

I can’t believe there’s people actually comparing drag queens to Jimmy Saville.

Twitter is 13+ If your kid is on there, sending DMs to anyone, that’s on you.

I’m sure the person offering colouring sheets would actually be expecting the parents to be the ones to send their email address, surely that seems obvious?

I’d take my boys to these events, I bet they would think it’s great fun.

And come on, this board s clearly white women screeching about everyone being a fucking pervert if they dont look like them.

Really? You think concern for children isn't shared by women of colour?

And there's that word screeching again.

zebrasdontwearbras · 07/08/2019 17:03

Interesting first stop for a definition of sexuality. I mean, it's hardly top of the google search is it?

"Everyone is a sexual being."

Children? Children in the age range drag queen story time is aimed at?

Butters83 · 07/08/2019 17:04

VickyEadie not what I said.

Pimmhead · 07/08/2019 17:07

What is the difference in blackface and womanface? How is one unacceptable and the other not? I don't get it.

Butters83 · 07/08/2019 17:11

Pimmhead - see below.

' Drag and blackface are in any way, shape, or form comparable. Blackface has a painful and long history in the US - drag does not. As far as I know, drag has never been used as a tool to institutionally oppress women, as blackface has. Women are not born with 6 inch towering heels, full faces of make up, and huge wigs. Makeup and femininity have nothing to do with being a woman.

Blackface mocks the features black people were born with, coupled with racist notions of intelligence. I have no control over my dark skin, or my lips, ass, or nose. I do have control over the clothes I wear and how I perform femininity or not. '
