Supporting our lesbian sisters THREAD EDITED BY MNHQ AT OP'S REQUEST

In response to this thread:

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/3621239-Being-a-homosexual-female-in-a-community-of-queer-people-transbians-and-penis-inclusionary-lesbians

I want to create a new thread to invite our lesbian sisters to tell non lesbian women how we can help support them and be allies to them through the current struggle and abuse from within their own community. I don’t have anything specific in mind and would love it to be led by those that need support, in whatever form that may be.

It should go without saying (but just in case anyone is tempted to do otherwise) that this is support for biological women who are same sex attracted and nothing else.

Great thread! I didn't know about 5th - it so happens that I have the day off for the end of year 6 festivities but I reckon I can find someone to do the school drop off, pop into London to add to the number and be back in time for the double decker bus and party photos.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 27/06/2019 21:50

define womanhood in a way that's dependent on biology... yup a gold star plated summit (💩)...

An interesting way to start off that post - gold star lesbian here. I kind of think I've seen a similar turn of phrase around MN before....hmm.

FloralBunting · 27/06/2019 22:27

Does Gold Star now mean only ever had sexual contact with someone who identifies as female? Or is it a special badge you get for being the most inclusivest person evar?

Call me pedantic if you will, but if your version of supporting same sex attracted women is to tell them it's all just a subjective 'genital configuration', and males are part of the equation, I think I'm just going to laugh ruefully and tell you to enjoy swimming around in the alphabet soup with all the kinksters, I'm over here with the women who think you can put your gold star bullshit where all the other shite comes from.

PencilsInSpace · 27/06/2019 22:34

Gold Star lesbian here

but also ...

when you define womanhood in a way that's dependent on biology, you don't help me

Hahaha how do even know you're a 'gold star' lesbian?

EmpressLesbianInChair · 27/06/2019 22:55

Brilliant, MrsFogi!

EmpressLesbianInChair · 27/06/2019 22:59

Hahaha how do even know you're a 'gold star' lesbian?

And if one of the female-identifying people you’ve had sex with later announced that they were & had always been male, would you count that retrospectively as straight sex?

2Rebecca · 27/06/2019 23:32

If I found out I'd had sex with a transman I would view that as my first lesbian experience. Women who have sex with transwomen are having sex with a male ie it's a heterosexual relationship. As bisexuality is part of LGBT I don't see why these women aren't happy to now say they are bisexual not lesbian. If genitals dont matter to these women then why do they care if they are L or B?

Whatisthisfuckery · 28/06/2019 00:15

Maybe our gold star is one of those lesbians who has a penis? That would explain the gold star status. Only bepenised lesbians are allowed to have sexual boundaries.

Yes, that must be it.

2BthatUnnoticed · 28/06/2019 03:37

I think allies is fine but it’s modern usage has become a bit weird. What about something like “GenderfreeWithTheL - Lesbian support thread?” Grin Will defer to what lesbians think.

irekd · 28/06/2019 03:47

We lesbians don't have it to bad really look at our ancestors
I do feel for them and how they lived x

irekd · 28/06/2019 03:49

A gold star lesbian is a woman who has never slept with a man

2BthatUnnoticed · 28/06/2019 04:46

The oldest lesbian I know is in her 60s. She says now is the worst it’s been for lesbians in her lifetime. Yes, gay men could be misogynistic (NAMALT) but they never said lesbians should be open to dick (straight men did) or that lesbians were “phobic” and not welcome at Pride due to being homosexuals!

It’s good that some lesbians are happy with how things are. But this is a support thread for the lesbians who are not.

Just as the “trans widows” thread is not intended for women who (after 20 years of hetero marriage) happily come out as “cis lesbians,” when their husbands become “trans lesbians,” this thread is not intended for homogenderal lesbians (try Reddit, Twitter or the rest of the internet).

2BthatUnnoticed · 28/06/2019 04:48

(General comment - not to anyone in particular - my point is, this is not a place to discuss what a woman or lesbian is. We all know).

MoleSmokes · 28/06/2019 04:56

Tarnished Tin Badge Straight here!

@Muststopfaffing I don't mind "ally" really. Although I did toy with "All Women For Unisex Lesbians" (AWFUL) because it would look stonkin on a banner with "TERFs" Smile

"Unisex" as in "Unicycle" obviously.

BluebonicPlague · 28/06/2019 05:36

Lesbian people I know don't want to rock the boat. Whether it's ignorance or niceness I don't know (they start talking about hostility 'on both sides'). It makes me wonder if I'm out of step. And maybe this isn't my show so I should butt out.
Maybe girls need to get used to male bodies in changing rooms and elsewhere.
Maybe women need to expand the definition of women when it comes to things like equal pay, all women's shortlists, anywhere that the word 'woman' was previously and exclusionarily taken to mean adult human female.
I can see now where I went wrong.

Budge up, women, and make room for people who experience more prejudice than anyone else on earth.

EmpressLesbianInChair · 28/06/2019 05:55

A gold star lesbian is a woman who has never slept with a man.

Yes. The issue being raised here is that when a ‘gold star lesbian’ believes that woman is a state of mind, not body, what constitutes lesbian sex?

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 28/06/2019 07:50

MoleSmokes Although I did toy with "All Women For Unisex Lesbians" (AWFUL) because it would look stonkin on a banner with "TERFs" smile

You could try the Bulgari approach and substitute V for U?

That instead could give: "All Women For Vagina Lesbians" (AWFUL)

Birdsfoottrefoil · 28/06/2019 10:06

Not being L or B I don’t know much of Stonewall’s history but I do believe this is wrong - writing the L out (On Facebook but haven’t commented as don’t know enough to be certain):

Yes I believe Stormé (a Black lesbian) threw the first brick and they have “transed” one of the other protagonists into a TW... (he) was a gay man. They are erasing the L and G.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 28/06/2019 13:55

I saw something on the news I think last night no Storme and dead-transed a male who never said he was a woman! God some people need to be educated...

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 28/06/2019 13:56

Does anyone have a screenshot of the banner that says ‘everyone knows a black lesbian started the stonewall riots’? I feel the need to post it somewhere...

EmpressLesbianInChair · 28/06/2019 14:59

Fekko This one? I took the photo, feel free to use it as you see fit.

That banner is amazing! Hope someone can take it on the 5th.

Malcom Johnson (aka Marsha, his stage name) - gay man who liked doing drag. According to the 1992 documentary which interviewed him!

It’s sad that the G have meekly handed him over to the T, instead of claiming and celebrating him as an iconic GNC gay man. I think it’s because masc gay men tend to be valued more than femme gay men.
