I hope she presses charges. Totally unnecessary and unacceptable.

Wouldn't be at all surprised if he has form for DV.

No one marched that fella who gave Theresa May a P45 out by the neck - who knew what he might have been holding? No one did anything about the aggressively shouting man who disrupted the launch of Esther McVey's leadership bid - who knew if he would attack her? Both of those situations were a million times more risky than a few women in long dresses and high heels. Statistically, men commit violence and women do not. As far as I can see, Field's behaviour is just another indefensible example of MVAW.

When looking for news this morning of what had happened to him after this assault (and it is an assault, I can't believe some people here are defending it) I found this article:

www.metro.news/mp-mark-field-hugs-jeremy-hunts-wife-in-animated-embrace/1594207/.

Is this how most men greet a colleague's wife? I'd say Mark Field has form.

ThanosSavedMe · 21/06/2019 08:35

I can’t believe some of the things I’ve read on here.

We definitely do not need more men like him. I asked dh what he would have done in the same situation, he would have blocked her path but not have touched her.

She was not going to up to him, she was walking past him so the claim of self defence is bullshit. The look on his face was disturbing, he was angry not scared. He pushed her into the column then squeezed the back of her neck as he marched her out

He says he deeply regrets his actions. I’d say he deeply regrets it was caught on camera and deeply regrets he didn’t get the reaction he wanted.

It was the ease and speed with which he reacted that struck me. Instant aggression towards a woman, and manhandling her as if she were a child, by the back of the neck.

Anyone who watches that will think "Oh oh..., not the first time."

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 21/06/2019 08:38

If a load of men gatecrashed a WI meeting to cause trouble

I missed this first time round...

Eaudear · 21/06/2019 08:39

He looks very comfortable slamming a woman up against a wall and gripping her on the back of the neck like she's a naughty puppy

This.

He obviously felt entitled to do this because she was a woman. He literally looks like someone who is teaching 'the feisty little woman' a lesson. I don't think there is any way he would have done this, in this way, if she were a bloke. And I'm not sure he would have done it if he really thought she was armed either.

He didn't grab her by the throat though. Hyperbole helps no one.

MaudBaileysGreenTurban · 21/06/2019 08:40

I doubt he would have done it to a man SEmummy, especially not a man that he genuinely thought was armed.

And tbh invoking the murder of Jo Cox to justify Field's actions just shows you've not really thought it through. There are similarities, but not the ones you're thinking of.

LizzieSiddal · 21/06/2019 08:40

Thera a picture of him kissing the wife of Jeremy Hunt, which is also appalling, look how he’s
holding her!

www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www.metro.news/mp-mark-field-hugs-jeremy-hunts-wife-in-animated-embrace/1594207/amp/

Nasty, nasty man.

Eaudear · 21/06/2019 08:40

And yes, it definitely looked like she was trying to walk past him and he was like 'no woman gets past me like this'.

LizzieSiddal · 21/06/2019 08:41

Anyone who watches that will think "Oh oh..., not the first time."

Exactly my thoughts.

TanMateix · 21/06/2019 08:44

And everyone just watched it happen, not a single person helped her.

That’s exactly the problem, nice bunch of politicians we have running this country. Hammond didn’t even want to acknowledge such drama was going on until someone warned him it was looking bad for him to continue to ignore.

We are sleepwalking into a dangerously intolerant callous society.

ThanosSavedMe · 21/06/2019 08:46

I completely agree Juells, I thought the same thing.

Fibbke · 21/06/2019 08:46

Agree totally with skint

You aound like idiots tbh.

Mamamere · 21/06/2019 08:47

Omg - that 'hold' on Jeremy Hunt's wifeShockShock

LizzieSiddal · 21/06/2019 08:48

Apologies DrSusan I missed that you had posted that link.

Teacakeandalatte · 21/06/2019 08:48

She was clearly walking past him and did not look threatening at all in her posh frock and sash.

Fibbke · 21/06/2019 08:48

Anyone who watches that will think "Oh oh..., not the first time."

I didn't. I thought he reacted as someone would if they thought there could be a security threat.

calpop · 21/06/2019 08:50

Gosh he did that with practiced ease didn't he?

NewarkShark · 21/06/2019 08:50

Appalled by the reaction to this. People justifying and defending violence against women - why aren’t i surprised?

Fibbke · 21/06/2019 08:51

She shouldn't have been there. Wtf were they thinking? Protest outside, fine. Break into the event and deliberately spread confusion? Come on!

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 21/06/2019 08:51

fib

Oh

So your another that believes that a man can grab you by your neck if he doesnt like the look on your face...or you walk past him with a hand bag....or he feels threatened (even if he isnt being threatened).... or if you are on a peaceful protest

Fair enough, it would be lovely if people like this MP could wear a badge so i know what expression to have on my face

LizzieSiddal · 21/06/2019 08:51

Fibb There were apparently 40 protestors and lots of video of them being ejected.

How come none of the other men felt the need to touch the protestors like Field did?

Fibbke · 21/06/2019 08:52

I think if a group of people break into an event with uncertain intentions then they can't expect to be left to do whatever they are planning just because they are a woman in high heels.

andyoldlabour · 21/06/2019 08:52

I have watched the video several times, and the woman did not approach him, she was walking past him.
He grabbed her, stood up and then with his left hand on her throat, pushed her against the wall.
He then forced her to turn around, had his left hand around her neck and frogmarched her away.
He should be expelled from the Conservative party and charged with actual bodily harm.
What a disgusting individual.
