Heads up if you haven't seen it:

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/mumsnet_live_events/3614469-Webchat-with-Ed-Davey-Lib-Dem-leadership-candidate-on-Tuesday-18-June-at-1-30pm?pg=1

He has started a thread on twitter about it.

twitter.com/EdwardJDavey/status/1140930197476315136

It interesting to see the priority of those posting and who is saying what.

If I wanted advice on baby stuff Mumsnet would be literally the last place I would go. Have you seen the main boards? Judgey pants central

Inside information on top news stories? Analysis of the political situation? Best handbag for under £100? Yes. Advice on baby stuff? Not on your nelly

Needmoresleep · 18/06/2019 16:24

It's the Mumsnet Radicalisation Portal

This almost had me wishing I lived in Sheffield Hallam where Laura Gordon is the Lib Dem parliamentary candidate. Have your questions ready should she knock on the door!

RedToothBrush · 18/06/2019 16:25

I am warming to Rory Stewart though. Does anyone know what his position is?

Love.
He's into love.

(I'll see if I can find the clip where he seems to avoid answering the question and talks about love).

OP posts:
Needmoresleep · 18/06/2019 16:28

Love.
He's into love.

Then he's clearly my man!

I really do not like Boris, so almost anyone but.. It is a low bar, though Penny Maudant would not have managed it.

OvaHere · 18/06/2019 16:30

Not to mention that it's been a long while since some of us needed baby stuff.

RedToothBrush · 18/06/2019 16:31

I think this is just about the crappest response I've seen. (Not in a sexist way. Just in a crap way).

SmallHaddockAndChips · 18/06/2019 16:32

Disgraceful - glad I don’t vote for that shower of shit any more. Loved how he turned the question about maternity leave to talk about men’s rights instead! In fact that annoyed me more than the trans stuff, which was pretty much the answer I would have expected. Actually his ‘principled’ remark annoyed me too, as if the GC, pro women stance is somehow unprincipled 😡

RedToothBrush · 18/06/2019 16:33

The antenatal boards are good. As are the childbirth and pregnancy boards.

OP posts:
Needmoresleep · 18/06/2019 16:35

That was a corker of a non answer. Thanks.

But actually cause for reasonable optimism that he might kick the current GRA reform proposals into the long grass.

RedToothBrush · 18/06/2019 16:35

And they are good because they give you advice and information on how to get heard and get your concerns taken seriously about issues relating to your pregnancy, often in the face of being dismissed...

Strange.

OP posts:
BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 18/06/2019 16:36

I was footling about on babycenter when I needed advice, so never used those boards. I just go to active and here, so tend to assume all of MN is like AIBU!

Needmoresleep · 18/06/2019 16:37

The antenatal boards are good. As are the childbirth and pregnancy boards.

As is the elderly parents board for us oldie sandwiches.

SmallHaddockAndChips · 18/06/2019 16:38

Yes it was a rather crap response but I really struggled to understand what the question was actually asking!

Needmoresleep · 18/06/2019 16:41

One noticeable feature of Elderly Parents is how often daughters get dumped on and how often their male siblings feel it is absolutely OK to do this. Caring is a pretty hidden and unrecognised contribution to society, and very very largely falls on the shoulders of women.

I am not sure that our friend Ed Davey and his Twitter mates have ever thought about this.

Goosefoot · 18/06/2019 16:48

I think someone really needs to take apart this business of people defining their own identity. It's bollocks all around but it is the go to answer, and for that matter many people believe it.

S1naidSucks · 18/06/2019 16:50

Now be fair, you bunch of ‘transphobic’ women. At least he’s been able to get over his fear of bad women who falsely claim to be ’transmen’, in order to attack, molest or uptrouser poor men in toilets, changing rooms, etc, not to mention he’s happy for ‘transmen’ to win against men in sports, plus taking sports scholarships away from men. Why can’t you women do the same.

Now think about that and let it PENETRATE! 🤔

Oh yeah! That’s right, that doesn’t fucking happen to men, so it’s easy for him to support trans rights, because they don’t negatively affect men, but put women ‘back in their place’. He doesn’t even try to hide the misogyny.

S1naidSucks · 18/06/2019 16:53

The nonsense about people being entitled to name their own reality shows that he doesn’t even believe that people can change sex. He has not once said that they can, but that’s ok, because he can claim his woke cookies.

Prawnofthepatriarchy · 18/06/2019 16:57

God, what a dismal performance! Clueless Ed told 12 million Mumsnet users that men's feelings are far more important than women's rights, safety and dignity, revealing his contempt for women in no uncertain terms.

RedToothBrush · 18/06/2019 17:00

The nonsense about people being entitled to name their own reality

I can't name my reality. Not allowed. My brother said so.

OP posts:
Prawnofthepatriarchy · 18/06/2019 17:03

Just imagine if women started thinking about things other than baby products. What hideous kind of dystopia would that be?

I've just Tweeted that on Ed's Twitter thread. Hope you don't mind, OvaHere.

Redshoeblueshoe · 18/06/2019 17:07

Rory's Trans launch Confused
Did he do a women's launch ?

Artesia · 18/06/2019 17:10

At least he’s come up with a credible answer to the whole Brexit dilemma. Each of us can choose to identify as an EU Citizen or not, and that will be our reality.

Hmm
Needmoresleep · 18/06/2019 17:12

Isn't this what is wrong with British politics. Ed Davey gets perhaps 30 supportive comments from insiders who reassure him he is right. He then ignores a huge and diverse website on the basis that it is transphobic and effectively according to one of the posters: "we refuse to listen".

Nigel Farage's take on this would be interesting. I am not a supporter. The problem is really how does he get this when leaders of major and traditional parties don't. Ever so clever and partonishing Ed Davey and his woke supporters are very very dangerous. Women know when they are being conned.

HollowTalk · 18/06/2019 17:15

Yes, Ed Davey came on to tell us what he thinks. He wasn't interested in what we thought.

Needmoresleep · 18/06/2019 17:19

Yes, Ed Davey came on to tell us what he thinks.

Actually Ed Davey came on to tell us what we should think.
