Heads up if you haven't seen it:

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/mumsnet_live_events/3614469-Webchat-with-Ed-Davey-Lib-Dem-leadership-candidate-on-Tuesday-18-June-at-1-30pm?pg=1

He has started a thread on twitter about it.

twitter.com/EdwardJDavey/status/1140930197476315136

It interesting to see the priority of those posting and who is saying what.

does he think they vote much? how about stuffing envelopes? knocking on doors? making tea for the brave revolutionaries?

Not to mention that a high percentage of twitter activists are anime characters who live in out in the ether somewhere outside of the UK.

LangCleg · 18/06/2019 15:16

Don't read it Lang.

I read it.

Dear goddess. Wheeling out the two-year-out-of-date canards.

Pompous, useless, misogynist preening in his own Woke Custard.

Michelleoftheresistance · 18/06/2019 15:22

Poor HQ pleading about would the women's rights questions please stop now..... no, @MNHQ, really sorry but they can't. Frankly if a politician openly intends to remove women's rights then what other political questions become even remotely relevant for women to ask?

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 18/06/2019 15:25

Frankly if a politician openly intends to remove women's rights then what other political questions become even remotely relevant for women to ask?

Yeah, this

RedToothBrush · 18/06/2019 15:32

If you come on MN, then of course women are going to ask what a politician is going to do for them.

If you can't get that's the audience you are talking to, and fail to listen and just tell people your principles, then its not going to go down well.

OP posts:
Michelleoftheresistance · 18/06/2019 15:35

Well I suppose in that light he was up front and honest. If you believe in women's rights the LibDems don't want your vote.

Righto, mate. Moving on.

RoyalCorgi · 18/06/2019 15:36

I never know what annoys me most about these woke bros - the contempt for women or the contempt for logic and reason. How can someone write something as fundamentally idiotic and devoid of reason as, 'So for me, a trans woman is a woman, and a trans man is a man. For me, that's not a policy position, it's their reality and I respect it.'?

Where does 'For me' come into it? 'For me, dogs are cat and the earth is flat. That's not a policy position, that's the reality of dogs and flat-earthers.'

He couldn't be more stupid if he was actively trying.

tobee · 18/06/2019 15:38

Anyone else imagining Ed now lying prone in a darkened room? GrinI do hope so!

littlbrowndog · 18/06/2019 15:44

Not a fucking clue ed not a fucking clue

He was asked what a woman was. And he didn’t have a clue

But hey off he will trot back to La la land

He seemed like he was full of me me and didn’t or couldn’t think just a bit about what women were ACTUALLY saying to him

ThePurported · 18/06/2019 15:46

I doubt Ed even bothered to have any input in the answers. Some campaign assistant just edited a bunch of scripts based on keywords.

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 18/06/2019 15:46

Yes, I mean it’s very clear, if you believe in women’s rights, then the lib dems is not the place for you

So is it 1919 or 2019? I feel like I’m going to have to start blowing up post boxes soon

RoyalCorgi · 18/06/2019 15:48

Maybe we should commend him for sticking to a policy position (sorry, "their reality") even when it is harmful to half of your potential electorate. Effectively he has just come on to Mumsnet and said, "I don't give a fuck about women and their concerns about safety."

Well done, Ed! You just need to put that loud and clear in your manifesto.

jay55 · 18/06/2019 15:49

At least he confirmed, without any doubt that LD are not a party that care for women unless they are men.

nonsenceagain · 18/06/2019 15:49

No feminist should support the LDs if he, Layla (soul seer) Moran and Jo Swinson are the best they can do.

CharlieParley · 18/06/2019 15:51

For me, that's not a policy position, it's their reality and I respect it.

Every time I read nonsense like this, I just have one question:

Where is your respect for our reality?

In a patriarchal society like ours, women and girls, as members of the female sex class, experience a large number of small, medium and big incidents of discrimination and oppression on the basis of their sex. Over the last 150 years, we fought for and achieved a number of sex-based rights for our protection and a measure of equality.

Now these rights are under attack while we continue to be discriminated against and ippressed. That is our reality. And men like him have not just got no respect for our reality, they deny it exists and want to stop us even talking about it.

ThePurported · 18/06/2019 15:52

!!!!! Paging Anna Soubry !!!!!

Your party has an opportunity here!

RedToothBrush · 18/06/2019 15:55

Reality is something that gets you in the end.

You can not say its 'someone's reality that they believe they are a man or a woman'.

They either ARE a man or a woman and when it comes down to it, mother nature is going to let you know which that is at some point in your life and quite possibly as part of your death...

What you 'believe' you are has fuck all to do with that.

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 18/06/2019 15:58

The other thread that keeps popping up in my Threads I’m On list is the surrogacy one

In the light of Ed’s insistence that men are women, this seems rather like salt in the wound today

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 18/06/2019 15:59

I don’t see men having their biology exploited for profit in this horrific way

Needmoresleep · 18/06/2019 16:00

Silly bugger.

I would love to be able to vote for the LibDems, but his clear misogyny means I can't. On a day when the Labour students womans officer is calling out a lesbian for not wanting to sleep with them, why can't the LibDems show some concern for lesbians, women and children.

I hope he learned how toxic his party's stance is for women. But he struck me as the sort of bloke who sees no reason to listen to us.

I am warming to Rory Stewart though. Does anyone know what his position is?

ChickenonaMug · 18/06/2019 16:02

*Every time I read nonsense like this, I just have one question:

Where is your respect for our reality?*

Definitely CharlieParley The right to recognise reality, including in order to safeguard youself, is surely at least as equally important as the right to self determine your identity.

EverardDigby · 18/06/2019 16:10

It's the Mumsnet Radicalisation Portal on a response to his Tweet, watch out everyone, you've been groomed when looking for baby things, don't get ideas above your mothering role Grin

Ed Davey Webchat
OvaHere · 18/06/2019 16:14

Just imagine if women started thinking about things other than baby products. What hideous kind of dystopia would that be?

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 18/06/2019 16:15

I've never been afraid of taking a principled position

This was a particular Hmm moment for me

Datun · 18/06/2019 16:17

Oh dear God. How stupid can you be?

If you can't define the word woman, what is the effing point of saying you want parliament to be 50% women!

If men are women, that can make it 100% men.

Either he knows that full well and he's just decided that women are shit on his shoe, or he thinks he's playing a game. Let's just pretend this complete fantasy, because in reality it won't matter.

In reality I can say that men are women, but that won't affect women's rights.

In reality an all women shortlist won't have any transwomen on it. Because that's not really what I mean.

Yes it fucking will. And they can all be trans.

This blatant idiocy is difficult even to comprehend.

I'm proud that the LDs have championed diversity, and that at long last we are getting far more women standing as parliamentary candidates in winnable seats - and my ambition would be to get at least a 50/50 parliamentary party asap

Are are you going to do that, Ed?

HOW??
