"Gendered periods"

This Twitter thread. "Always" is offensive because they market their period products to (gasp) girls.

Just purchased #Period supplies for myself & my #Trans son. After being a lifelong user of @Always* products, I am profoundly disappointed in this trans/non-binary/queer-exclusionary design. “Bold Like A Girl”? “Strong Like A Girl”? “Brilliant Like A Girl”? Come on, #Always!

Can it get any more ridiculous?

FFS

Every menstruating person is female; 99.99% of those females identify as girls or women. Can we please be allowed to celebrate GIRLS ?!

yetanotherusernameAgain · 17/06/2019 11:50

She would have a point if she was complaining that the scent of Always products was feminine and therefore trans-exclusionary or triggering. Perhaps Always should produce an aftershave scented version? Or do us all a bloody favour and produce non-scented products.

LassOfFyvie · 17/06/2019 11:51

Her Twitter handle describes her as :-

LVT/Veterinary Nurse, married to an amazingly talented DVM, 2 incredible daughters, wildlife rehabber, feline behaviorist, U.S. Army veteran, Packer fan

Yet she posts:-

Just purchased #Period supplies for myself & my #Trans son

She seems a bit confused. Does she have 2 "incredible daughters" and a trans son , who isn't worth mentioning, let alone incredible? Or has she misgendered the child she is buying Always for?

Is she using "incredible" literally?

MockerstheFeManist · 17/06/2019 15:26

Maybe follow example of Bic?

Otherwise identical disposable razors in yellow and pink.

(Pink ones 30% more expensive, natch.)

tellmewhenthespaceshiplandscoz · 17/06/2019 15:33

Bloody (I promise no pun intended) Nora, that twitter thread is like a different planet.

I'm bemused that a vet can be so strongly opposed to biological reality as that person is.

I would love to see what Always have to say. Actually I imagine they're scrambling around trying to get a TRA appeasing bullshit statement out so i probably don't.

umbel · 17/06/2019 15:44

"packer fan" Hmm

FermatsTheorem · 17/06/2019 15:52

I think Always should bring out a range of manly khaki pads, with appropriately manly pong. I could boycott those as well of the rest of their range (which I don't buy because (a) I don't want to smell like a cheap car air freshener and (b) I don't want a ragingly itchy fanny).

JellySlice · 17/06/2019 15:56

“Bold Like A Girl”
“Strong Like A Girl”
"Brilliant Like A Girl”

Exactly.

You don't have to believe you're not a girl if you are bold, or strong, or brilliant.

You don't have to pretend not to be a girl in order to be bold, or strong, or brilliant.

ItWentInMyEye · 17/06/2019 16:13

My mind is fucking blown by this shit. ACCEPT MEN DONT BLEED!!!

thatwouldbeanecumenicalmatter · 17/06/2019 16:21

Can't you just identify out of periods.

LassOfFyvie · 17/06/2019 16:30

"packer fan"

I assumed the reference is to the Packers- an American football team.

umbel · 17/06/2019 16:32

LassOfFyvie (bold fail) I guess that too, I just couldn't suppress the juvenile snigger. Sorry for not adding anything useful to the thread.

Doyoumind · 17/06/2019 16:36

This is a product aimed solely at females. 100% of users are female. It makes no commercial sense to market to 0.001% of the market who don't identify as women.

There are plenty of tampons and towels etc that make no reference to women and girls on their packaging. Fucking buy them!

Greyhoundsaregreyt · 17/06/2019 16:36

Males not being the target audience for sanitary protection...
And they’re whinging about being excluded?? The whole thing is a joke. You seriously couldn’t make it up.

Doyoumind · 17/06/2019 16:37

You've got the wrong end of the stick greyhound. It's about females who don't identify as women.

carla1983 · 17/06/2019 16:37

This shit makes my blood boil. Men do not have periods.

Greyhoundsaregreyt · 17/06/2019 16:39

Oh, I see, sorry. Still complete bollocks, though.

FlapsMagazine · 17/06/2019 16:40

"packer fan"

I'm assuming she means Green Bay Packers, not the creepy underpants inserts.

FamilyOfAliens · 17/06/2019 16:42

Though this reply is excellent:

“Head bangs against wall. Women + Girls have periods. The advertising should be directed towards them. Those of you talking about being triggered. FFS grow up. It’s the 75 anniversary of D Day. The men returning to those beaches have earned the right to feel triggered. You don’t.”

TurboTeddy · 17/06/2019 16:47

Can't you just identify out of periods.

Apparently not but you can identify into them if you're a transwoman. Confused

LassOfFyvie · 17/06/2019 16:51

I'd still like to know if she failed to update her profile to include her now trans son or if she thought he wasn't worth mentioning in it.

simplekindoflife · 17/06/2019 17:04

This stuff gets more ridiculous by the day...

MEN DON'T HAVE PERIODS!! Confused

why would her trans son be offended, I just don't get it?!

SecretWitch · 17/06/2019 17:07

This woman is insane.

She is clearly a Green Bay Packer’s fan...which also makes her insane.

VickyEadie · 17/06/2019 17:11

I give no fucks. None at all.

LassOfFyvie · 17/06/2019 17:12

why would her trans son be offended, I just don't get it?!

Her trans son is a biological woman who still has periods.
