That is a fucking fantastic piece of writing.

Polly99 · 15/06/2019 10:31

Thanks Janice. A really great piece in what must have been a ghastly week.

Redshoeblueshoe · 15/06/2019 10:33

Excellent Janice Flowers
I will also be buying a copy of the Times today

LemonRedwood · 15/06/2019 10:34

Does anyone know how I can use a share token link from the times mobile app? Whenever I click on the share button and copy the link its not a share one.

TheAngryLlama · 15/06/2019 10:51

Infuriatingly, my local supermarket newspaper delivery has fucked up today and I couldn’t get the Times. Will have to leave house again to get it.
See how much I love you Janice

RussianSpamBot · 15/06/2019 11:15

Janice is magnificent.

DanaPhoenix · 15/06/2019 11:31

Oi enough of the saggy tits thankyouverybloodymuch. I have not been hitting the gym for nothing swishes hair.

whispers despite my best efforts gravity is a thing. Science innit.

Brava Janice. Some may decide defending pedophiles is the hill they wish to die on. Me? I'll stand fast defending the children until my final breath leaves my body (only slightly saggy tits and all).

truthisarevolutionaryact · 15/06/2019 12:25

The comments are up and they are excellent.

Haven’t read the comments yet. Anyone bring up Mr Rubberman? That’s a potentially bigger story and puts this story into context.

ImGenderfree · 15/06/2019 12:43

There are one or two references to JM in the comments section but not detailing what he did but commenting on lack of focus on safeguarding in a charity and appalled at the number of tweets defending his behaviour.

I kept going down and recommending so many comments. There are a lot of very pissed off people.

I am shocked at the number of people on Twitter defending this and of seeing the safeguarding issues. When I have completed safeguarding training the emphasis has been on that safeguarding is the responsibility of everyone in an organisation. It needs to be seen to be taken very, very seriously as this is the first line of defence against infiltration of people seeking a position from which to abuse children. The Heyward Gallery exhibition is unbelievable- I cannot see how this was not knocked down at the first suggestion.

ImGenderfree · 15/06/2019 12:44

Oops I missed out *NOT seeing safeguarding issues in the first sentence.

ContessaIsOnADietDammit · 15/06/2019 12:47

I bought the Times just for this article today. I dithered between it and the Guardian (headline on homophobia and transphobia was striking), but then it occurred to me to wonder how much of the homophobia is driven by the trans narrative (not trans people per se, but the whole "Men don't think like this, you must be a woman" story). A sad thought but unfortunately true :(

Outofinspiration · 15/06/2019 12:55

Thank you Janice.

Outofinspiration · 15/06/2019 12:56

So interesting that the only ones who got in the way of Savile were the saggy titted nurses.

What's that Owen? Wrong side of history you say?

mimivanne · 15/06/2019 12:58

Righteous anger jumping from every line, thank you Janice

AnyFucker · 15/06/2019 13:10

👍

KTara · 15/06/2019 13:38

Are the comments still there? They are not loading on my phone - just a blank space

Whosorrynow · 15/06/2019 13:46

Go Janice!
I want to count myself among the older nurses

TacoLover · 15/06/2019 13:48

I am sick of having the conversation about Little Mix, Beyonce etc feeling empowered by wearing skimpy clothing. For goodness sake put some bloody clothes on! I am sure Adele feels empowered without bowing down to the bloody men who think women have to look like whores to be empowered.

I don't think yelling at women to cover themselves up and labelling Little Mix as whores is helpful in the slightestHmm

TacoLover · 15/06/2019 13:54

I'm Confused at people on the Feminism board of all places declaring that women look like whores if they dress a certain way...

Mumfun · 15/06/2019 14:02

I used to always read the Guardian and Observer.

I dont any more.

Generally the standards of journalism across the board seem very poor or non existent these days from BBC through to Guardian..

But James Kirkup and Janice Turner have shown these week what proper journalism looks like by skilled and talented writers. They have restored my faith thank goodness

WineGummyBear · 15/06/2019 14:38

Brilliant, wonderful excellent work Janice. Also heading out to buy the Times.

boatyardblues · 15/06/2019 15:14

We must have all caned the sharetoken in the OP because it has timed out. Does anyone have a fresh one? I’d kove to see the comments.

HumberElla · 15/06/2019 16:28

Wow, just brilliant writing. It’s like a long cool drink of water after days in the desert.
Thank you Janice. Many times thank you.
