US policemen threaten to shoot black mother dead

This is one of the most distressing things I have ever seen on Twitter. Policemen threaten to shoot a mother because she can't put her baby down and put her hands up.

Racism and misogyny in their full horror. The KKK has obviously been recruiting in US police forces.

That video is horrible. Racist bastards. (My jaw is also somewhere near the floor over backwoods' comments - that's some of the most shocking apologise for racism and violence I've ever seen on here).

FloralBunting · 14/06/2019 21:40

Holy shit.

No.

Excuses.

PlinkPlink · 14/06/2019 21:46

This is fucking awful.

I am quite close to tears watching this.

What the fuck is wrong with American police?

I just... I have no words. I hope that family are okay? Do we know anything about the family?

Erythronium · 14/06/2019 21:49

"The interaction was a little unprofessional and heavy handed."

Threatening to shoot a mother in the head who can't put her baby down isn't a "little unprofessional", it's brute fascism.

I wasn't being sarcastic about the KKK. This is obviously going on.

PlinkPlink, it made me cry. That's why I had to post it, because it was just so awful to see.

Appalling behaviour by the cops. Just appalling.
BUT why is everyone crying racism?? Jessica I can see them doing the same to "white trash", definitely.
It's like the riots in Memphis the other day after a black guy, Brandon Webber, was killed by cops. Hardly any media are explaining Brandon had shot a guy 5 times while buying a car, when warrent was served he rammed the cop car, and then left the car with a weapon.
Of course racism exists in all it's ugliness, but there are plenty of black people critical of the knee-jerk reactions that people (some on this thread) and the likes of Black Lives Matter use, (Candace Owens is one).
Those cops may have been being racist, but probably more shit scared of a gun being presented. Cos USA.
Complete arseholes..... but explain the racism to me because I genuinely don't understand.

Backwoodsgirl · 14/06/2019 21:59

All I was doing was presenting the police side of it as I am sat around a campfire with 2 US police officers right now who watched the video

Erythronium · 14/06/2019 22:08

Poor you Backwoods. Don't cross them whatever you do, they might become unprofessional and heavy handed.

White people don't get treated like this in the US YeahnaYeah. Can't make you see what you don't want to see though.

OP posts:
Persimmonn · 14/06/2019 22:16

The interaction was a little unprofessional and heavy handed. But the officer had no idea if there was a weapon being concealed, or if there was one in the car.

Wtaf?! The child took a bloody TOY DOLL from the shop by accident and that warranted this “heavy handedness”?!! There is NO ROOM for unprofessionalism, even a little bit, when it comes to the police.

backwood I don’t give a shit who you’re sitting around the campfire with. There is a big problem in the USA atm but I wouldn’t expect privileged white dips like you to understand.

I’m absolutely appalled and at the same time proud that the British police would never be caught doing something like this. Aiming a fucking gun at a woman with a child and swearing infront of children. . I hope those arseholes are fired.

Persimmonn · 14/06/2019 22:26

What’s terrifying is 2 police officers sitting with backwood on this thread in RL think the officers in the video were “a little heavy handed and a little unprofessional”. Fuck.ing. Hell. It’s obviously the culture they’re being trained in. Pointing a gun at and manhandling a child and woman is acceptable in their eyes. Pointing a gun at and man handling a black man who has done nothing wrong and is compliant throughout is acceptable. Absolutely fucking unbelievable.

bundevac · 14/06/2019 22:32

"That video is horrible. Racist bastards."

whites are treated so much better:

Yeahnahyeah · 14/06/2019 22:37

Look, I'm not saying it doesn't happen, bit systemic? Not so much. He's a quick video with Larry Elders POV.

Backwoodsgirl · 14/06/2019 22:37

From the police officer to my left:
1: We don’t know if that is a area known for violence.
2: We don’t know if the couple are known to the police for violent behavior.
3: Police forces are at a town level, so set up very differently to the UK so training is very local and tailored to the area, that’s both good and bad for obvious reasons.

However 99%of the time these situations can be dealt with verbal communication. The officer in the video sets the tone of the situation by shouting. And remaining fixated on the suspect and not remaining aware of his sarroundings, leaving himself vulnerable to attack. These interactions should ALWAYS be lead by the suspect. The suspect should the tone of the interaction, you let them escalate it.

RogueV · 14/06/2019 22:57

My eyes have rolled out their head Backwoodsgirl

Just. Stop.

You are making a fool out of yourself
Or your ‘policemen’ friends are Hmm

bundevac · 14/06/2019 23:00

backwoodsgirl, can you ask the police officer why alek minnasian is still alive?

Erythronium · 14/06/2019 23:01

For fuck's sake, on what planet is it OK to threaten to kill a pregnant woman holding a baby? A badge and a gun doesn't excuse this.

And remaining fixated on the suspect and not remaining aware of his sarroundings, leaving himself vulnerable to attack.

Yes that's the problem here, that the cop might be attacked. Not that he was obviously on a hair trigger and could easily have started shooting. Leaving people dead. He was deliberately escalating the situation to justify the use of lethal violence, that's what violent, dangerous men do. They work themselves into a frenzy and then decide they couldn't help themselves.

If the bystanders hadn't bravely intervened there easily might have been fatalities. That's why this clip is so upsetting because the people were in real danger. Not the fucking cop.

And if you're in the woods, enjoy it. Get off the internet - you're in nature. Just stare at the fire if you can't think of anything else to do.

Voice0fReason · 14/06/2019 23:12

I have been stopped a couple of times my first words were good evening sir I would like to tell you that I hold a concealed weapons permit, and I have a weapon on my person, please tell me how to comply.
Philando Castile was shot dead in front of his girlfriend and her child after saying that to a police officer.
It is so obviously racist.

They seem to escalate situations rather than deescalate them - particularly when the person is black.

Erythronium · 14/06/2019 23:14

It's called bloodlust.

LassOfFyvie · 14/06/2019 23:18

It's awful and inexcusable. Bizarrely unless my googling skills are failing me badly the only mainstream/ big name reporting I have found is The Daily Mail.

www.google.com/amp/s/www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-7143303/amp/Horrifying-moment-Phoenix-police-hold-black-family-gunpoint.html

ZebrasAreBras · 14/06/2019 23:19

Horrific to watch.

The police in the USA are the one reason I wouldn't live there - DH works for an American company and they're forever trying to get him to re-locate (us all) over there. But I find the gun culture and cop culture terrifying. In fact it's linked isn't it - the cops think that everyone they pull over for a speeding ticket is about to pull a gun on them.

I think I'd rather stick with our police here who, while ringing people up and arresting people about their tweets, at least don't behave like that.

Backwoodsgirl · 14/06/2019 23:19

bundevac

Precisely the point we were making. 99% of the interactions can be solved verbally

ByGrabtharsHammarWhatASaving · 14/06/2019 23:23

They are supposed to assume that there could be a gun in every interaction.

I think at this point everyone in America has to assume this, don't they? And the solution always seems to be "lets just give more people guns". I'm honestly so scared of America's relationship with guns that I don't even want to holiday there. Sorry American MN readers, but the guns thing just blows my mind.
