Use of trans identified male as opposed to transwoman.

happydappy2 · 14/06/2019 18:07

MNHQ There has been much written recently about how the controlling of the words we use, is very misleading. Many women reject the word transwoman as it can be misunderstood. In light of this, would you reconsider yr guidelines that Trans Identified Male can not be used? It would seem a more factually accurate description of a human male who presents in a stereotypically female way. Thank you.

i don’t care what words are banned

Thats deffo a yay

Im a yay as well

Earlywalker · 15/06/2019 16:09

I take repeatedly calling decomposing and I men, after we have repeatedly said we are not as a personal insult.

DecomposingComposers · 15/06/2019 16:10

It's so strange how Jacky seems to know exactly how all women in the entire world communicate. That really is quite impressive. And they all communicate in the exact same style? Again, amazing. Quite unbelievable actually.

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 15/06/2019 16:11

Its not the only unbelievable thing on the thread

I feel quite like Alice

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 15/06/2019 16:13

So if decomposing says yay is that 100% then?

DecomposingComposers · 15/06/2019 16:13

Me too. Also take it as being extremely goady too. Also, very controlling because it's actually an attempt to silence us. It's something that we can't really argue against and we can't prove unless @MNHQ are willing to phone us or video chat with us or something to verify that we are actually women.

I find it fascinating that people who call themselves feminists actually want to silence women because they don't communicate in a suitably feminine manner.

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 15/06/2019 16:15

Ive not been on a 100% agreeing thread for ages

What say you decomposing

LangCleg · 15/06/2019 16:16

Are we in the Upside Down?!

Datun · 15/06/2019 16:17

It's a yay from me.

happydappy2 · 15/06/2019 16:18

Well this conversation has been excruciating at times, but if it means MNHQ have a real think about the terminology we are allowed to use, it’s worth it.

I hope not!!!

Isn’t that where the scary beasties live

Datun · 15/06/2019 16:19

And thank you for that stuff and reference to Julia Long, R0. Absolutely fascinating. And spot on.

PurpleCrowbar · 15/06/2019 16:19

Another yay over here.

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 15/06/2019 16:20

Oh thats a weird crosspost

I do not believe that MNHQ has scary beasties

Just want to make that clear

DecomposingComposers · 15/06/2019 16:20

I already answered Rufus

I said yes, in principle, but was the banning of certain words brought in to try to keep the discussions civil and prevent them from descending into mud slinging?

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 15/06/2019 16:23

Oops sorry decomposing

I missed that

but was the banning of certain words brought in to try to keep the discussions civil and prevent them from descending into mud slinging?

Dont think so, i think it was banned as a whole lot of people complained about the use of a particular term and to be fair mumsnet banned some other words

I would think that people who use the phrase TIM or CIS don’t believe they are mud slinging...or at least thats the impression they give

Hamster00 · 15/06/2019 16:31

I say yes too because the current regulations are curtailing women's ability to provide accurate definitions on people based on their sex.

LangCleg · 15/06/2019 16:33

Knew you'd say that! Good to see you!

Hey hamster

Where you bin hiding

I can't be bothered to go back over the history of this particular spat; but having posted myself at some length earlier in the day to some of the points made by Early Walker, Bespin and yourself, I'd be interested to know what your essential point is - with regards to the use of language. What are you objecting to? I can't quite work it out....

You can obviously accept and understand why many people are not/no longer happy to use the words transwoman - because it has been explained to you many times by various people. Whether you agree or not is another issue.

It is clear to me that people are seeking to discuss what words that they do feel comfortable with. That is what this thread is about.

R0wantrees · 15/06/2019 16:37

Also, very controlling because it's actually an attempt to silence us.

Managing approx 10% of the posts on a thread is indicative that a person has not being silenced.

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 15/06/2019 16:38

Oh were you doing that real life thing i see people talking about on here

I must get myself one of those

R0wantrees · 15/06/2019 16:38

Hamster00 Hello, good to see you back here.

Datun · 15/06/2019 16:40

HQ might want to look at who agrees and why, and who disagrees and why with a quick glance at Julia long's speech.

I'm sure we can all agree the more information they have the better. And as so many people on here are familiar with the freedom programme, that too.

DecomposingComposers · 15/06/2019 16:42

I don't agree that anyone should be compelled to use particular words (which isn't happening here). Equally, I don't agree that anyone should use terms that another person, or group of people, have said they find offensive.
