I saw this in Manchester Canal Street this afternoon.

I am SICKENED. Paedophiles have no place in the LGBT community. The fact that this is being displayed in broad day light. Equally disgusted and dismayed.

There are no words to adequately convey my horror and anger at this sort of thing. It's a Tshirt being sold to men who are expressing their desire to have sex with children. Come on. It's not that hard to see this issue.

My gay male friend refers to his gay friendship group as 'the boys' as I refer to my straight female friendship group as 'the girls'.

Naivete is cute and all, but please take some time to read links here. Look up Tatchell and his contention that children having sex doesn't have to be a bad thing. Look at boy 'drag kids' dancing for money in gay clubs and posing with naked men.

Just because you are decent enough to understand that sex with children is flat out abuse, don't be foolish enough to think that there aren't people out there genuinely pushing for it. As uncomfortable as that is to acknowledge, it really must happen, or a whole other generation is going to be swallowed up in this.

Girls is much more often used for adult women than boy is used for adult men (although BOYS plural has a different meaning, granted). So it is not equivalent between the sexes.

Given the history amongst the gay community with the man/boy paedo groups from the past, the dual meaning of boy love should not be ignored. So some young gay men might wear this, and just think it means younger gay men, but some will also wear it and know it has another meaning (and take secret pleasure in that they can publically display their actual predilections whilst hiding behind the 'it's just gay pride' thing.)

It IS there, I know going as far back as when I was a student, there were gay male speakers who wanted to talk about 'younger' as in younger than even the straight age of consent at the time (16). Our lesbian and gay group, it was only the dykes who said if this speaker was invited, we would all leave. The chaps finally gave in, but they really did seem to have a problem recognising this as a problem. And some of the responses above seem to show the same issues.

Yes, I hope the creator of the T shirt was just completely ignorant of the context. I hope lots of people are, tbh, because to know what that phrase means and to still make the t shirt is a very nasty thought indeed.

Boy Love is a term long used by pro paedophile activists. I find it hard to believe that a company would make those t-shirts having no clue of this.
