I saw this in Manchester Canal Street this afternoon.

I am SICKENED. Paedophiles have no place in the LGBT community. The fact that this is being displayed in broad day light. Equally disgusted and dismayed.

I got so angry I compiled a tweet.

Gay rights have NOTHING to do with this shit. We are being tarred with this brush. NO!

The overton window is shifting. Everywhere we look we see paedophillia being normalised. This is not a drill. Women - wake the fuck up

MonkeyTrap - it's self preservation to shelter yourself from this, if you can. Nobody wants to read about this sick paraphilia.

www.theguardian.com/politics/2014/mar/02/how-paedophiles-infiltrated-the-left-harriet-harman-patricia-hewitt

Paedophiles openly campaigned for acceptance in the 1970s. And parts of the civil rights movement accepted them (including some of the Labour Party, as you can see in the article above.

As far as I can tell, it only stopped when the chief proponents of PIE were actually arrested and convicted of child abuse. As if nobody could have seen that coming Hmm

Popchyk · 11/06/2019 21:05

Sorry, here's the link

CaptainKirksSpookyghost · 11/06/2019 21:08

It never really stopped, peadophiles in power are still pushing boundaries and pulling strings.

ZebrasAreBras · 11/06/2019 21:14

Oh I know they never actually went away. They are re-surging in a big way now, on Twitter, and in Queer Theory.

I need to read the thread here and Doctor Em's articles on Queer Theory and paedophilia, but I'll need time & a stiff drink.

MonkeyTrap · 11/06/2019 21:19

I thought I was fairly well versed, being a CSA and having both studied and worked in the criminal justice field. I can see I’ve barely scratched the surface. I think you’re right. Ignorance is bliss!

Kilbranan · 11/06/2019 21:24

This is disgusting. Yet another way to try to sneak in normalisation of child sex abuse. It’s sickening and so brazen to have that t shirt in their window!

FermatsTheorem · 11/06/2019 21:49

Zebras that tweet. WTAF? 10 and 36? My jaw is currently somewhere on the floor.

LangCleg · 11/06/2019 22:31

boy love is paedo lingo.

Huge abuse scandals happen because people turn away and refuse to see what is in plain sight. It's uncomfortable so they pretend they can't see it. Jimmy Savile? Plain sight. Rotherham etc? Plain sight. Catholic priests? Yep. Everyone knew. Whisper networks. Nobody is prepared to say it until the dam has broken and then they say they were saying it all along to assuage guilt for not saying it.

So again:

boy love is paedo lingo.

If the t-shirt people didn't know that before: they do know.

boy love is paedo lingo.

MangoesAreMyFavourite · 11/06/2019 22:41

Never heard of 'boy love'.
I consider myself sickened and educated.

ThatCurlyGirl · 11/06/2019 22:42

Also my friends who are transgender are for the most part equally angered by things like this and the outrage from "the trans community" in response - which usually means a few very vocal trans people who are shouting the loudest to get heard.

My trans friends do NOT represent anything to do with underage sex. My trans friends are sickened by what the PIE was able to get away with. They would never want little girls to feel scared going into a public toilet and getting called transphobic when they see a man in there. Kids see what they see - so some will misgender trans women and think they are men and feel SCARED. Little girls like that should not be made to feel scared. My trans friends would cry at the thought of that happening to the kids in our family and wider group of friends.

In fact, more trans women I know are bothered about this than "cis" women because it's my beautiful, strong, brilliant and kind trans friends who are having their lives made HARDER by an extremely vocal few activists (and the media) claiming to speak for the entire trans community while refusing to give all other trans people a voice. Im angry for them, I am so angry.

OldAndWornOut · 11/06/2019 22:45

I think these things are deliberately just skirting around the obvious..

There was a thread here a while back with links to appalling photos of some fashion designer's clothes; the pictures were very VERY near the mark, but people were defending them as 'edgy'.

littlbrowndog · 11/06/2019 23:03

A 10 year old boy. A ten year old boy.

It’s so shocking. That he should be so sexualised

He should be cooking or playing football or out with his mates
Not doing this sexualised stuff
How can Bergdorf defend this

Apollo440 · 11/06/2019 23:04

Unshriven
And it's a term used by 99.9% of the rest of the world to mean nothing at all to do with paedophilia.

Nope. 100% pedo code. Google 'Boy Love' if it's
so innocent. I dare you.

LassOfFyvie · 12/06/2019 00:39

And it's a term used by 99.9% of the rest of the world to mean nothing at all to do with paedophilia

Eh ???. What on earth is the 99.9% of the world supposed to be referring to? I didn't know what it meant but I can't think of any situation where I would use the expression "boy love"

Goosefoot · 12/06/2019 00:57

This is something LGBT News posted on FB. Spot the glaring issue.

I have not seen this poster, which is shocking, but this Love Is Love campaign has become big in my city. I've never liked it, I think its such obvious bad logic, and potentially dangerous, but anyone I have expressed this to thinks I am just a curmudgeon, or a bigot. I feel a little vindicated now.

Orchidoptic · 12/06/2019 06:15

With all of this name calling, do you not think ‘bigot’ has somehow lost its meaning? Having to tell your elderly mum that she is not a bigot for not wanting to share the ladies’ with men?

There are many things I used to worry about. I never would have imagined this to be one of them.

HorsewithnoHoldsBarred · 12/06/2019 07:20

And it's a term used by 99.9% of the rest of the world to mean nothing at all to do with paedophilia

I have never used that "term" and I don't recall anyone I know using it.

I think it's as creepy as fuck.
