All we need now is a Mesmac link and we'll have Child Protection Nightmare Scenario bingo, right there.

truthisarevolutionaryact · 11/06/2019 22:47

In the light of today's Oxfam report and the evident failure to uphold good safeguarding practice, this was a chilling warning from last year about children's charities and the type of people who appear to be targeting them:

As far as I can see, what Rubber Man is up to is entirely between consenting adults.

I agree and I don’t think it’s right for his personal business to be part of this discussion. (Whether or not it’s wise to have one’s personal business on the internet is another question.)

His professional judgement certainly isn’t all that; anyone could have told him that MB would be a controversial choice.

I'm not so sure - have I misunderstood? I thought that the blog in question was linked, directly, from the LinkedIn profile - that named his position at the NSPCC?

In which case - and perhaps I'm just being prudish, I don't know, but I have personally never worked anywhere, children's charity or not, where I felt I should put in my CV "This is a really cool workplace where it's all about our sex lives!"

The sex life in question is no doubt entirely blameless, I'm not saying it's not. I'm just saying it's .... well to me it's weird that you'd use any employment related web presence to advertise your sex life no matter what it was.

He was the one who linked his personal and professional life.

Ha. You have said in ten words what took me about four paragraphs!

OvaHere · 11/06/2019 23:18

I see this new 'child protection' org jumped into the online furore.

It’s amazingly naive that someone who works for the NSPCC/Childline put a link to their fetish on their online CV.

You don’t even need a linked in account to see it, it’s viewable to everyone.

At the very least you would expect a supervisor to say ‘hey, best to keep your sex life stuff separate to your kids charity stuff’ the fact that we noticed this and seemingly the NSPCC didn’t is a huge red flag in regards to the charity itself.

He was the one who linked his personal and professional life.

Adults working with children & vulnerable adults need to maintain appropriate boundaries as part of Safeguarding & Child Protection frameworks.

Employees working for children's charities also have responsibilities to the ethos & values of the organisation.

GColdtimer · 11/06/2019 23:25

Ovahere WTF are the words child protection and kinky doing in the same sentence Angry

GColdtimer · 11/06/2019 23:26

Hipster he called himself one!

TheMostBeautifulDogInTheWorld · 11/06/2019 23:26

The structure of the intenet (functionally, not physically/electronically) is, specifically designed so that anyone can find and link up with anybody. It's why it's called "the world wide web". The "www" part of every URL.

SunsetBeetch · 11/06/2019 23:30

Hipster??? Well I'm afraid that's definitely a step too far!

SunsetBeetch · 11/06/2019 23:31

Lol sorry, I misread that and thought James had cslled himself a hipster Grin

RedToothBrush · 11/06/2019 23:31

Well this is playing out well for the NSPCC...

...bloody great woke PR.

hipsterfun · 11/06/2019 23:33

well technically he said he hung around with a bunch of perverts but I assumed he included himself among in the merry gang.

ByGrabtharsHammarWhatASaving · 11/06/2019 23:45

Those reviews on the NSPCC remind me of the comments from the recent Amnesty debacle.

  • bullying
  • toxic
  • purging staff who disagree

Just to say that my jaw has dropped on to the floor on reading this thread. Especially the last few pages.

I mean..... WTF? Seriously?

NoSquirrels · 12/06/2019 00:03

My proudest achievement in the role thus far is the creation of a ‘How To Be A Trans Ally’ video for Childline with Munroe Bergdorf due to launch in June. The social impact of a video like this can be huge, and will also create great PR and social sharing opportunities.’)

Well, seems clear it’s the correct James Making.

Personally couldn’t give much of a shiny shit what he gets up to on personal time although linking it to LinkedIn I.e. your professional sphere seems 1) odd 2) naive 3) brave or 4) unwise depending on your viewpoint.

I guess I’d hope that the viewpoint of NSPCC would be 4) unwise.

It cannot be a fuck-up on his part - NSPCC have seen and approved a relatively new hire’s social media. So are they so steeped in woke the sexual preferences of an employee on LinkedIn is not a problem? Or are they SO bad at recruitment there’s no due diligence?

Again. - I 100% couldn’t give a shit what he does in his free time if it’ legal between consenting adults.

But in an era where holding even a fairly uncontroversial gender critical opinion online can get you doxxed as a woman, it’s pretty astonishing from the fucking NSPCC ...
