Why are adults in their 30s claiming to have a special relationship and think they see the world in the same way as children?

This was a key part of the TRA narrative last year.
Paris Lees tried to age-shame Nick Robinson with it too.

Seriously nasty piece in the Independent

Millennials are anyone up to the age 36.

Just to point this out. DH is definitely not cool with this bullshit. I can think of many millennials who aren't....

from the Independent article:

(extract)
However, Twitter user @ mimmymum has shed some doubt over how expansive the anti-trans lobby actually is. Referring to the Bergdorf/NSPCC incident, she noted how complaints against Bergdorf were launched by an account called the “Safe Schools Alliance” which was only set up in May 2019, but presents as an official organisation. Safe Schools Alliance is just a Twitter account, not a recognised or registered organisation or charity – and @ mimmymum provides more examples of similar accounts with names such as “Woman’s Place UK” and “Fair Play for Women”, set up purely to further anti-trans agendas.

The account also broke down how Safe Schools Alliance is in fact populated by a subset of Woman’s Place UK and Fair Play for Women’s followers – which collectively comprise not even 1 per cent of the NSPCC’s followers."

Helen must be delighted that her work is being taken so seriously

JessicaWakefieldSV · 11/06/2019 17:36

Does anyone read The Independent anymore? I can’t even look at the poorly designed website! I used to read the Johann Hari articles... until he got in a bit of trouble Grin

JessicaWakefieldSV · 11/06/2019 17:38

as writer Molly Smith notes “I doubt you would see a white, cisgender woman being talked about by other feminists in the way Bergdorf is being talked about”

Is she serious? Where the fuck have you been Molly???? Jfc what a shit rag that turned into!

truthisarevolutionaryact · 11/06/2019 17:39

Comes to something when an organisation prioritising safeguarding of children gets it in the neck from some seriously unpleasant individuals.

Avrosia · 11/06/2019 17:44

Munroe Bergdorf released a statement claiming that she had been given a position by the NSPCC. At that time, the NSPCC had made no statement to that effect. Its a children's charity, it can not allow for people to unilaterally announce that they have a position with them. This is basic safeguarding done to protect their name and children. Its hardly surprising they drop anyone who breaks that rule. Munroe also asked kids to message her directly. The NSPCC obviously cannot allow anyone who works witthem to encourage that sort of thing. Its unbelievable that any one should attack them for enforcing basic child protection, that is what their job is.

The Independent is arguing against basic child protection. It believes people should just be able to take a children's charity's name and use it for their own purpose. It thinks 'celebrities' should be able to invite kids to message them.

It's a disgrace.

Possible issue within NSPCC celebrity department?

I did think it was interesting that Paris Lees’ age is not given on their Wikipedia etc. Hope it’s not because Paris isn’t a millennial... that would be awkward Grin

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 11/06/2019 18:11

Isn’t themself as old as me (old enough to know better)?

FloralBunting · 11/06/2019 18:12

You do have to wonder, given the levels of misinformation being pumped out about this, and that the only thing of note about MB is their trans status and that this sort of thing keeps happening to them, whether it isn't a bizarre set up to keep this nonsensical notion of trans as second class citizens a current idea.

This one individual, without any particular relevant skill set, is asked to be spokesperson/representative for three different businesses/orgs, and each time MBs own words are pointed out by onlookers, and MB is dropped like a hot rock because of their unsuitable behaviour.

And each time, MB gets a platform to complain in escalating terms about 'transphobia' and oppression. It's surreal.

Jesus tapdancing Christ. I despair.

Was it David Graeber who banged on about bullshit jobs? The entire Third Sector Industrial Complex is bullshit jobs for the Woke.

Mumfun · 11/06/2019 18:24

Up to last year would always have defended the BBC

Is absolute toast now. Is supposed to have journalistic standards and to employ journalists. No better than a celeb mag now. Previous good BBC news journalists must be aghast.

That article is just extraordinarily bad. A complete embarrassment.

And yes SacredCaste That is it. A sacred caste like the priests. And also like the BBC celebs in the 70s . And Royals and Royal hangers on.Noone questions them. Inherently unquestionable. Just like any well known trans individuals now

HumberElla · 11/06/2019 18:25

You’re right there Lang

I can’t help thinking how awfully patronising it is apart from all the other very obvious problems with the actual individual. When you appoint on the basis of no actual skills it just looks like tokenism to me.

MadamBatty · 11/06/2019 18:27

26 in 2014 so 30/31 now. Hmm last time Paris saw 31 was on a bus as me Ma would say

I haven't caught up with he thread - been a busy couple of days - but we published our response to The BBC article on Twitter and Facebook. Please like and share!

R0wantrees · 11/06/2019 18:32

Helen has also helped The Canary with its analysis!

'One thread exposes how a small group raised a transphobic Twitter mob against the NSPCC' by Glen Black
(extract)
"While the NSPCC hasn’t announced its reasons publicly, another trans activist explained how just a few people can have a big impact via social media.

“Laser focus”
Twitter user Helen explained that Twitter can amplify a message because “all ‘likes’ and ‘retweets’ are created equal”. The effect is to make a single tweet seem like “wave upon wave of negativity”. And, when backed up by an apparently reputable source, the tweet may cause someone “like NSPCC CEO Peter Wanless” to “freak-out and scramble”:

Helen🧜🏻‍♀️(⧖)
@ mimmymum

Replying to @ mimmymum
The problem is that on twitter, all ‘likes’ and ‘retweets’ are created equal.

That is, if you’re the target of an anti-trans pile-on, you can find wave upon wave of negativity scrolling through your twitter notifications as you’re tagged into comments which are then ‘liked’.

Helen🧜🏻‍♀️(⧖)
@ mimmymum
For an individual like @ NSPCC CEO @ PeterWanless, they can literally receive over 1,000 notifications from one tweet!

It’s no wonder they freak-out and scramble to respond without considering WHO is behind such activity- especially when seemingly ‘endorsed’ by a Times journalist!

As a result, it took only a few individuals to have a big impact. Helen pinpointed the source of the claims about Bergdorf to a Twitter account called the Safe Schools Alliance. And its message was repeated by [Janice] Turner" (continues)

ZuttZeVootEeeVro · 11/06/2019 18:40

The entire Third Sector Industrial Complex is bullshit jobs for the Woke.

Seems like it.

It's unclear whether the talent and celebrity department didn't follow nspcc safeguarding guidelines, or there isn't any guidelines to follow.

Either way the nspcc need to make a clear statement to assure the public that they do take grooming and homophobia seriously.

Apollo440 · 11/06/2019 18:43

Unlike the Guardian the Independent has left comments open. If you have anything to say....
