since when did second class citizens start getting free rein to spout nonsense in interviews with the BBC?

R0wantrees · 11/06/2019 13:00

I would say that is EXACTLY what has happened!

Well that's very silly & someone needs to help the BBC out.

SexPayGap · 11/06/2019 13:13

I have complained to the BBC for that shoddy article.

Goosefoot · 11/06/2019 13:13

Yes. They are colluding with the establishment of a sacred caste which is against all safeguarding principles and is a recipe for disaster - and by disaster, I mean the kind of thing that has occurred with other previous sacred castes, for example Catholic priests.

At that level it's so terribly naive, there is this assumption that some group (priests, activists, whatever) is just always going to be above board, so they don't look to institute protections or even ask questions. When we know from experience that exploiters will always flock to those kinds of positions.

What I find weird though about this is its so overtly sexualising children. And in a very modern "individualist" kind of way that makes no sense.

Awesome thread by Shelley Charlesworth:

That is a very good thread. She did that excellent research on Queering the Curriculum for Transgender Trend, didn't she?

She doesn't seem to have many followers - I think people on Twitter would do well to retweet.

Just seen the BBC News article on the telly. What a disgraceful, partial, fawning interview. The correspondent in voiceover saying "The BBC has seen evidence of people setting up multiple accounts to complain and even setting up online organizations"

Astonishingly bad.

Datun · 11/06/2019 14:05

The BBC has seen evidence of people setting up multiple accounts to complain and even setting up online organizations"

Oh dear lord, another foot shooting statement.

The very next question will be really?Show us.

R0wantrees · 11/06/2019 14:14

The full quote is even more revealing:
"The BBC has seen evidence of people setting up multiple accounts to complain and even setting up online organizations against Munroe "

That Munroe believes it all about Munroe is one thing, that BBC journalists believe & repeat this is quite another.

Dreadful article on bbc website - no mention of the reasons people were concerned about MB as an ‘ambassador’ . How do I go about contacting bbc to make a complaint?

FloralBunting · 11/06/2019 14:28

Second class citizens who get fawning, partial interviews from the state broadcaster with no investigation evident to counter the outrageous claims made?

Pull the fucking other one, it's got bells on.

Needmoresleep · 11/06/2019 14:30

The BBC seems to have recently appointed two people to report on transgender issues: Ben Hunte (LGBT) and Megha Mohan (gender and identity)

This promotes bias. There are a limited number of people they can roll out when seeking stories, opinions etc. Monroe will be one. Upset the TRAs, or be considered unsupportive, and you have no contacts, and thus no job.

Take a step back. GRA reforms are a current political debate so it is not unreasonable to identify expertise. However I suspect their remits are to report on a "equalities" basis, without regard to the competing rights and needs of others. The BBC therefore comes across as trans-obsessed and misogynistic. I wonder if they have anyone reporting on women's issues. (Apart from Woman's Hour, and we know the contortions they have had to go through to report anything of substance.)

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 11/06/2019 14:36

Women’s issues? I think not.

RoyalCorgi · 11/06/2019 14:44

You know what's hilarious? Right at the bottom of the story they've got something called "More on this story" with the following links:

No pennies dropping for the BBC? As Oscar Wilde didn't say, to lose one job looks like misfortune, to lose three looks decidedly fishy.

Stylist magazine is called in to support Munre Bergdorf.

'Why Munroe Bergdorf has accused the NSPCC of “bowing down” to transphobia'
bySarah Shaffi
(extract)
"And activist and model Munroe Bergdorf has been targeted by transphobic groups, resulting in the NSPCC saying it will no longer work with her on a campaign.

Bergdorf announced on her Twitter last week that she had been announced as Childline’s first LGBT+ campaigner.

She wrote: “The wellbeing and empowerment of LGBTQIA+ identifying children and young people is something that I have been passionate about throughout my career as an activist.

“I’m excited to have the opportunity to let more kids know that they are not alone in their how they feel. There are people who care, people who can help and people who have been through the same things as you, so PLEASE don’t suffer in silence." (continues)

The NSPCC’s statement followed a tweet by Janice Turner, a journalist for The Times, who tweeted at the NSPCC and asked them to “explain why a children’s charity has hired a porn model as a Childline ambassador”. She continued: “It’s an astonishing decision. Is it worth the cancelled direct debits?”

Bergdorf fought back, pointing out that she had “never shot porn in my life” and the NSPCC’s decision has been criticised by many, who have accused the charity of giving in to transphobia, and have also called it out for continuing to use the Pride logo on its Twitter account.

Among the critics are The Good Place actress Jameela Jamil, who described Bergdorf as a “brilliant, important young woman”, and writer Juno Dawson, who said: “Really sad that NSPCC childline have bowed to transphobia and cut ties with spokesperson MunroeBergdorf. I urge you to think about what message that sends to young LGBTQ people who desperately need your service. If you’re not there for trans women, you’re not there for them.”

Others who spoke out in support of Munroe include How to Get Away with Murder actor Matt McGorry and the founder of UK drag troupe Denim, Amrou Al-Kadhi.

Munroe responded to the NSPCC’s statement on Twitter by saying that “Childline had the opportunity to lead by example and stand up for the trans community, not bow down to anti-LGBT hate and overt transphobia”. (continues)

Hmm

Last year Stylist Magazine published Munroe Bergdorf's guide to being a good 'trans ally'
(extract)
"We’re trying to educate adults but, if we educated the kids, we wouldn’t have to educate adults. I honestly think that the baby boomer generation is so toxic. They just don’t get it. Millennials and kids have absolutely no problem with the way the world is going; it’s adults who have a problem with it, because it’s upsetting the status quo. But, if we educate kids that a whole spectrum of sexual feelings are totally normal, and there’s nothing to be ashamed of, and you should never hold a person’s sexuality against them, then there will be far less unconscious bias."

Yes, abused kids and kids with problems are obviously being centred by 'me, me, me and my media career' Bergdorf. Or 'me, me, me and my media career' Jamil.

Piss off.

Its about complex and issues, which can not be oversimplified without the risk of doing harm which identity politics does. And its about basic boring and dull safeguarding as a opposed to branding, image and wannabe Scelebs on the take.

JessicaWakefieldSV · 11/06/2019 14:57

The article from last year has many things wrong with it.

I honestly think that the baby boomer generation is so toxic. They just don’t get it. Millennials and kids have absolutely no problem with the way the world is going; it’s adults who have a problem with it, because it’s upsetting the status quo.

Calling an entire generation of being toxic is disgusting. That would never get printed if someone not trans said it.

Actually plenty of millennials hate what you stand for Munroe, inc my 17 yr old DD & her autistic friends, who think you and your TRA mates are the most toxic thing right now.

ThatCurlyGirl · 11/06/2019 15:55

I am already cross this week with the NSPCC after I found out that they are teaching primary age children, during their Speak Out, Stay Safe programme, that the definition of sexual abuse is "when a child is being made, asked, or rewarded for doing anything with their body that frightens or worries them – or being made to do this to somebody else."

Fucking hell, this description is FAR too close to saying that if a child isn't frightened or worried at the time of sexual contact, it isn't sexual abuse.

Sexual contact with a child is ILLEGAL. It is illegal because every child has the right to be protected by law. I wanted to bang Nick Carter from the Backstreet Boys when I was about 13. It is the adults responsibility to life lawfully, not the child's.

Children may want to do something they are not allowed to. Children's bodies "betray" them. For example, if a boy of 13 gets an erection and is sexually excited is that a free pass for an adult to have sexual contact with them? Obviously not! That wording is ridiculous.

Munroe has been sacked from and distanced from various organisations for racism, gay bashing language, approval of a child dancing provocatively for adults. These are things anyone could get fired for. If Munroe wants equal treatment, they must accept equal consequences.

I'm so sick of this, where is common sense gone?! It's a loving act to PROTECT children, not to validate abuse of a child in any way.

ThatCurlyGirl · 11/06/2019 16:07

Oh and also I am bisexual yet feel totally disconnected and unrepresented from all things LGBT because the T seems to be taking absolute priority in that list.

I'm told I'm transphobic if I wouldn't want to date a pre surgery trans woman. This would have been damaging when I was younger as it would have made me feel I was doing something wrong or mean when it comes to sexuality. I also don't want to date "cis" women or trans women who are caked in make up. I don't for a minute want to silence heavily made up women, it's just a preference.

Calling me transphobic means I've been shamed and betrayed for my sexual preference. Activists cannot have it both ways, either all adults get to live by their sexual presence (if it's lawful of course) or no adults do.

ThatCurlyGirl · 11/06/2019 16:07

*shamed and berated - typo

Goosefoot · 11/06/2019 16:12

Calling an entire generation of being toxic is disgusting. That would never get printed if someone not trans said it.

I don't know, think about Brexit discussions.

Datun · 11/06/2019 16:20

Among the critics are ... writer Juno Dawson, who said: “Really sad that NSPCC childline have bowed to transphobia and cut ties with spokesperson MunroeBergdorf. I urge you to think about what message that sends to young LGBTQ people who desperately need your service.

Oh my God, they're just making it worse.

The message that Juno Dawson sends to young gay men is that their being gay is a consolation prize.

Trans author: ‘A lot of gay men are gay men as a consolation prize because they couldn’t be women’

www.google.com/amp/s/www.gaystarnews.com/article/juno-dawson-gay-men-consolation-prize/amp/

Why are they so determined to find absolutely no one with any credibility, or empathy for young gay people???

ZuttZeVootEeeVro · 11/06/2019 16:29

Millennials and kids have absolutely no problem with the way the world is going

Why are adults in their 30s claiming to have a special relationship and think they see the world in the same way as children?

JessicaWakefieldSV · 11/06/2019 16:31

Why are adults in their 30s claiming to have a special relationship and think they see the world in the same way as children?

Why indeed? Why is that Munroe?? Hmmm
