Diane Abbott saying something is interesting. It suggests Diane is a) paying attention b) fully respects Julie without question c) does not think Julie is transphobic
Given the publicity that has been given to Julie being deplatformed and labelled as transphobic, it seems unlikely (though entirely still possible) that Diane was unaware of it.
Indeed, the way in which twitter does its algorithms it does suggest that Diane is likely to be paying close attention (Of course, she could have it set to latest tweets and then just happened to log in at the right time - but if this is the case then you can also assume that Diane spends a lot of time on twitter and has seen lots of Julie's other recent tweets...)
It will be interesting to see if Diane does stand by the tweet or if it mysteriously gets deleted.
For context I think Diane's position as shadow home secretary is rather relevant here. There's been a lot of talk of cleaning up social media for various reasons - notably violence language and threats towards women, but there have also been attempts to suggest that women are being violent for raising concerns against men using transphobia too. Any measures brought in reduce threats via social media could easily be used against women if we are not very careful. (This includes a threat to the entire topic on MN).
So yes, Abbott speaking up is very interesting and raises all sorts of questions in my mind as to what Diane thinks privately about the entire subject.
I shall reverse judgement for now over what Diane ultimately thinks, but its at least promising.
