Seems to have been carried out by well known TRA who has threatened violence before: twitter.com/bindelj/status/1136402563379716096

I love that the TRAs are saying that this wasn't an attack.

If the shoe was on the other foot and a transwoman was on the receiving end it would have been attempted murder 🙄

terryleather · 08/06/2019 08:32

Misgendering = literal violence

Denying ma'ams any of their demands that they dress up as rights = literal violence

Not believing that TWAW = literal violence

But what happened to JB is not an attack because none of the punches landed...Hmm

ZebrasAreBras · 08/06/2019 09:16

Remember Dennis Waterman, admitting he had hit his first wife?

"The problem with strong, intelligent women is that they can argue, well. And if there is a time where you can't get a word in... and I... I lashed out."

He tried to excuse his behaviour by stating: "It's not hard for a woman to make a man hit her."

This is no different from that. Mr Brennan attacked Julie because she's strong and intelligent, and Mr Brennan can't use his words against her, he can't win the argument. So he attacked her.

Male pattern violence. And Pink News, Joss Prior, Hetty Spoon and all the other utter dicks on twitter who are excusing, denying or minimising this - you are all apologists for violence against women.

Michelleoftheresistance · 08/06/2019 10:30

"It's not hard for a woman to make a man hit her."

Which in translation means: "It's easy for a man to feel entitled to hit a woman"

As Lundy Bancroft says: male violent offenders are often very good at excusing their behaviour and pulling out the psycho babble about 'having difficulty managing their anger'. He asks them if they punch out their bosses? No? Well they can manage their anger then can't they? When they want to, and when there's negative consequences in it for them. Their issue isn't struggling to manage their anger, their issue is entitlement.

Deliriumoftheendless · 08/06/2019 10:44

FFS, I am physically attacked regularly at work but never actually harmed. Doesn’t mean we just brush it off. There are always consequences. Otherwise we would be normalising violence as a way to get what you want!

Outanabout · 08/06/2019 10:49

If someone tries to stab someone else, but is restrained, do people rush to say "no harm no foul"? It's pathetic to be downplaying actual violence while bigging up the imaginary violence of referring to a man with a beard as a man

I don't think we do, Jessica, because that would be deadnaming.

Mr TownTattle or Julie's male attacker are both appropriate.

This article is interesting:

PurpleCrowbar · 08/06/2019 11:54

Someone on Twitter said (sorry - can't remember on which thread, so no idea if it's true) that his original name was Joe Brennan.

For some reason, if this is the case, rather than calling himself Joanna or Josephine, he went for the one new first name available that is already linked with a prominent feminist...

Hmm
BreakWindandFire · 08/06/2019 12:05

This article is interesting:

The writer Ophelia Benson is a philosopher and feminist who was expelled from the Freethoughts blog platform in 2015 for refusing to state TWAW.

Outanabout · 08/06/2019 12:08

Freethoughts! 🤣

Prick News continue to ramp up the misogynist rhetoric

LOLed at "What is that flag? Did they break into a nursery?" on that Twitter thread!

SpeckofStardust · 08/06/2019 12:54

EverardDigby Right?
Plus there’s so many colour variations now it’s getting so I can’t wear anything with horizontal stripes any more because (apart from making look as broad as I’m long) I don’t know what message I’m signaling.

AlwaysComingHome · 08/06/2019 13:00

The writer Ophelia Benson is a philosopher and feminist who was expelled from the Freethoughts blog platform in 2015 for refusing to state TWAW.

And yet it took months for Richard Carrier to get booted off for predatory behaviour towards young women. He even used his blog to solicit prostitutes.

EverardDigby · 08/06/2019 13:05

Speck Grin

SpeckofStardust · 08/06/2019 13:28

Freethoughts blog platform expels woman for expressing free thoughts?
Well, you have to hand it to them, they’re on message with the ‘words mean what we say they they mean especially if they mean the opposite of what you think they mean’ mantra.

CharlieParley · 08/06/2019 13:30

Cathy Brennan has actually asked we don’t refer to him as her name, so even Mr Brennan is too much. Do we know his actual name yet?

I have seen him referred to as Joe Brennan on Twitter. Whether that is accurate, I do not know. That's why I've decided to just call him Mr Brennan for now.

I shall refer to the person as ‘Julie’s Assailant ‘.

WizbetisaNizbet · 08/06/2019 13:54

What's with the silly pout?

CharlieParley · 08/06/2019 13:59

PurpleCrowbar hadn't seen your post. Also saw a tweet claiming he has not legally changed his name, so just assumed it (which isn't illegal, but it is unusual that the papers did not bother giving both names as they normally would when reporting on people with assumed names).
