Can we start an anti "nail" campaign?

As a GP who frequently washes her hands, allotment owner and instrument player I really hate the trend for women to have immaculate nails that cost a fortune, scratch people and mean women can't do anything useful. Where t f did this horrible trend come from and how do we give women back the use of their wonderful hands?

I don't like the nails. I hate the colour: Matt does nothing for an ageing skin

Is this still you criticising the system ? Or just you being nasty?

I didn't know that "green nails" was a reference to fungus. But why do you assume everyone with long nails is harbouring it and that long nails are the only thing which harbour it?

DecomposingComposers · 02/06/2019 16:37

placemats

How clean are your hands? Have you had them swabbed to see what nasties you are carrying and shedding on everything that you touch?

I was accused of pointless spending byHold. It helps to read the thread.

You werent accused of anything.

It was simply pointed out that some of your purchases will seem pointless to other people. It's not what they would choose to spend their money on.

That's common sense. Maybe you need to read what people are actually saying.

And yes, if you applied to go in telly addicts (is it still goin) and went on and said 'yeah this show is awful' I would call that a dick move.

jennymanara · 02/06/2019 16:44

In fairness, shampoo is different. That is about being clean.

LassOfFyvie · 02/06/2019 16:46

Of course you spend money on stuff other people will think is pointless

Placemats is said the above.

Your response was

I can assure you I don't. Hope that helps

I mentioned a few pages back that basically anything more than a unisex boiler suit to preserve modesty and the plainest food sufficient to provide sufficient calories is unnecessary.

Maybe Placemats really does live such a Spartan life that all her purchases are beyond criticism of being unnecessary or pointless. Placemats would certainly have to avoid Christmas - it's the acme of pointless spending. And cats- many people think cats are pointless.

The truth is, we all buy into the 'system' in some way or another. But for some reason there seems to be this view that you are betraying feminism and accepting the patriarchal system by having your nails done

Other than the bras, I'm a vest person myself, yes as a woman, an adult human female, I'm buying the same as men. Men buy bags. My DP has just assured me of this. He doesn't get his nails done.

I also get a hair cut now and again. No more colouring for me. That's my choice.

If you want to spend your money on 'pointless' things as Hold has so eloquently put it, feel free to do it!

LassOfFyvie · 02/06/2019 16:51

Just to reiterate Hold did not call you pointless. She challenged your statement that no one could criticise your spending for being pointless. There is a huge difference.

IHaveBrilloHair · 02/06/2019 16:53

So I've horrible nails and aging skin.
Quite the pro feminist post there.

RiddleyW · 02/06/2019 16:55

This is hilariously cunty.

Holdthedamndoor · 02/06/2019 16:57

You are either a GF, purposely misreading, or so angry that you arent reading.

Your purchases arent pointless to you. That's not what I said. I said that other people may find them pointless.

Like I dont generally buy coffee shop coffee. I have one when I get to work. To me it's pointless. Some people at work insist the coffee shop round the corner, has the best coffee ever. I tried it and couldnt tell a difference. So to me it's pointless spending that money. But to my colleagues who enjoy it, it's not pointless. Its something they enjoy.

Are you getting yet?

placemats · 02/06/2019 16:58

What would be the point of lying though?

I'm not a cosmetic company who wants to fleece you of your money.

We all age. What's wrong with having ageing skin anyway?

Celebrate your age, don't defy it and certainly use criticism as a helpful guide.

Your nails are lovely and you don't have ageing skin (and even if you did- so what?)

I usually report comments like that as they are so clearly personal attacks but I think it's better to leave it here so anyone reading the thread gets the full picture.

DecomposingComposers · 02/06/2019 16:59

IHaveBrilloHair

I love your nails and tbh I would consider it a positive that someone as bitter and spiteful as placemats doesn't like them

Well clearly you think ageing skin is an issue or you wouldn't have used it as an insult would you?

Holdthedamndoor · 02/06/2019 17:03

placemats you werent asked for your opinion. Did no one bother teaching you, if you dont have something nice to say, dont say anything?

It also had to context and didnt add anything to the post.

You comment about aging the skin was when you explained why you dont like it. If aging skin isnt a problem. Why include it in your criticism?

You mentioned Catholics being able to sniff out vindictiveness. I, like pp, dont know what that means. But I do know I can smell coming from you.

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 02/06/2019 17:04

You do know what Green Nails means

On a thread about long nails?

Yeah I’d take it to mean green nail varnish

And your nails look great brillo my friend wears that matt grey colour...its lovely

LassOfFyvie · 02/06/2019 17:06

Oh the "I'm just telling it like it is, I didn't mean to be rude" defence.

I'm not a cosmetic company who wants to fleece you of your money

The "I'm not being rude and spiteful, I'm doing this for your own good" defence

We all age. What's wrong with having ageing skin anyway?

Nothing - but why did you think it was necessary to mention it ? And Brillo's skin doesn't look ageing anyway.

Celebrate your age, don't defy it and certainly use criticism as a helpful guide.

Back to the "I'm not being rude and spiteful, I'm doing this for your own good" defence

Holdthedamndoor · 02/06/2019 17:07

I understand what you are saying. I'm not some stupid Catholic culchie from the back arse end of nowhere. Credit me with some intelligence please. I currently live in England.

But you don't get it. Because you keep saying I said something else.

Wtf the actual fuck? Credit you with intelligence, you now live in England.

What do you mean be arse end of nowhere? Rural NI? You saying people in Rural NI are thick, or that I think they are thick?

I live in England now too. Moving to England doesnt increase your intelligence and if you are implying staying in Ireland makes you less intelligent that would make you a bigot, xenophobe and misogynist. All in one thread.

placemats · 02/06/2019 17:09

There was a thread on AIBU recently about a woman who had spent a lot of money on getting her hair done and she was unhappy about it and asked if she should go back to the hairdresser to ask for a refund.

All the replies said it was rubbish, the hair cut was rubbish and that she should.

Were they being nasty?

LassOfFyvie · 02/06/2019 17:11

I understand what you are saying. I'm not some stupid Catholic culchie from the back arse end of nowhere. Credit me with some intelligence please. I currently live in England

I don't care what your religion or geographical locality is but your last few posts don't lead to me crediting you with being anything other than rude, spiteful and having an inflated but unwarranted sense of superiority.

placemats · 02/06/2019 17:11

I have a house in NI Hold In the arse end of nowhere, how I like it!

You no nothing about me. Stop spraying insults around and picking a fight.

You're not worth it.

dwatsuts · 02/06/2019 17:12

I have a crazy idea.

How about... if people want to have their nails cut short for practical reasons, they can do so if that's their choice. And if other people want to have their nails look a certain way, even if it's impractical, again, it's their choice.

Sorry, is this too radical?
