A pleasant surprise

NC for this as very outing.

I came across a number of Tweets from a user whose profile described him as a serving officer with the Met. This is the complaint I sent yesterday:

Jon Killen, a emergency response officer in the MPS and LGBT+ officer, is issuing Tweets that I consider misogynist. His Twitter account (@LDNResponseCop) clearly identifies him professionally, so he cannot argue that he's only offering personal opinions. I cannot think his social media presence is doing anything good for the Met. It seems highly unprofessional. Certainly I would have less confidence were I involved in an incident and had to deal with Jon Killen than I would in a generic officer. Please look at what he's saying - and the response from many LGBT Twitter users who find his Tweets offensive. The police must be seen to be impartial.

I got a call from an inspector this morning. He'd gone through the officer's Tweets and agreed with me. He said it wasn't a disciplinary matter as there were no personally offensive Tweets but that the Tweets definitely overstepped the bounds of what a serving police officer should be saying on social media. A conversation was in order and he would be talking to the officer soon.

Only a small step, but I was pleased the Met seems to have taken it seriously.

U.K. Law classes transphobia as a hate crime and forbids hateful acts based on someone’s gender identity. Pretty explicit.

This is blatantly false. UK law has no reference to or legal definition of "transphobia" or "gender identity" anywhere.

Further, the terms "gender", "transgender" and "gender expression" are not referred to or defined in any UK law.

HumberElla · 04/06/2019 19:21

female: noun. Used by incels to deny some people’s existence.

noun: a word to identify a class of things, used by women who refuse to behave.

Hahahaaaa! Sorry I’m still amusing myself here! I’ll catch up in a minute!

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 04/06/2019 19:23

poor Zoe

coming up against some well informed and smart women

where's that sense of mystical kinship now eh?

quick, one of the male lurkers fart so we can all roll our eyes and re-establish that we're female

I mean how a person can actually type that......

CuriousaboutSamphire · 04/06/2019 19:23

That was a highlight Humber it got a bit repetitive but the last page it has upped its game Smile

SophoclesTheFox · 04/06/2019 19:24

I doubt that Zoe will take that on board, jacky. She’ll have been told that the right thing to do is “get ahead of the law”, and sub in “gender identity” wherever it seems like a good fit for situations and concepts it was never intended for.

Zoecb · 04/06/2019 19:24

I really don’t, I hate arguments, it’s all very tiresome but for some reason I am stubborn today and have been replying to the whole pack on my own. I think I might need someone to cut me off!

Maybe I’ll post a bunch of swear words in my next post so I get banned!

Justhadathought · 04/06/2019 19:25

Basically, if everything was as simple as you would like to believe it is, there wouldn’t BE transpeople. There wouldn’t be queer people either. Just heterosexual cave people hunting and gathering along biological sex divides

What most of us here believe is that human beings are muli-faceted creatures, often of our own design and desire. What we object to is rigid gender constructs. What you have described above seems pretty bleak in terms of human potential. Do you really believe that only trans people are capable of variant and rich expression of self?

No! Neither do most of us here. We believe that regardless of your biological sex or sexual preference, that you should be free to express yourself in any way you like, so long as it does not harm other people or wilfully impinge on their rights.

Feminists had long been supportive of gay men, and of those 'old school' transexuals who mostly just wanted to get on quietly with their lives. Everybody here believes in live and let live. the difference is you are seeking to assert your identity in contrast to reality; to the condition that women find themselves in as a biological class. to impose yourself into our spaces. to eradicate the language we use to describe our experience. To make illegal our right to name ourselves, and to identify that you are not like us in this very particular way.

Swear words don't get you banned on MN. We're pretty robust on here.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 04/06/2019 19:25

You really don't what? Make sense?

Yay! We Are Pack!!!

A pleasant surprise
LangCleg · 04/06/2019 19:26

I've aimed it at you a few times.

It has been making me chortle, so it's not been wasted, darling!

But some of us, I'm afraid, are just playing their own game of Mad Libs.

SophoclesTheFox · 04/06/2019 19:28

let’s lay off the semantic arguments that are stressing you and go back to those assaults by “t*rfs”, Zoe. when and where did they happen?

Please don’t delete me for the t-word, MNHQ, i’m hoping that by using zoe’s own terminology she’ll understand what i’m asking her, as she didn’t seem able to respond when I used the term GC feminist.

Zoecb · 04/06/2019 19:28

Btw I’m not a transwoman so I dunno why you’re talking to me like I am. I enjoy female-only spaces. I want them to be inclusive. This doesn’t infringe on any of my rights.

@Justhadathought your third paragraph is spot on.

LangCleg · 04/06/2019 19:28

Maybe I’ll post a bunch of swear words in my next post so I get banned!

What makes you think swearing gets you banned from MN? It's renowned as a sweary website. Are we not womaning in a sufficiently unsweary manner?

JackyHolyoake · 04/06/2019 19:29

have been replying to the whole pack on my own

"Pack"?

... could you be any more insulting?

Mumsnet is a community for females, Zoe ... if you cannot cope with that perhaps it is wiser that you take your leave from it.

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 04/06/2019 19:29

Pack?

Ive been as good as gold on this thread...its just the continued thats grating

Zoecb · 04/06/2019 19:31

Erm, I’m not using witches as a substitute for transphobes. I don’t think trans witches would be impressed!

I’ll just post some Verboten terms a few times...

Justhadathought · 04/06/2019 19:32

I really don’t, I hate arguments, it’s all very tiresome but for some reason I am stubborn today and have been replying to the whole pack on my own. I think I might need someone to cut me off!

So why do you come onto a board on which you know people come together to discuss a particular shared view and experience? Having been closed down everywhere else? We're not ignorant of your view. Quite the contrary! However we are never going to agree with you so long as you attempt to insult, pressurise or insist. You are wasting your time; mainly because you don't want to understand - because to understand would totally undermine the ideology you seek to live and express.

The ideology you seek to express is in direct contrast to the reality that we all know exists. Trans women are not women. Women have their own unique position as a sex class. That is what unites us. Even if we are all shades of colour, creed and background.

There can be no common ground except to say that we must surely all agree with basic civil rights for all human beings.

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 04/06/2019 19:32

Use transphobes then

Just no more *** for the love of god

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 04/06/2019 19:33

Why is there only one *

HumberElla · 04/06/2019 19:33

Right I’ve stopped laughing now.

Breathes

You shouldn’t laugh at men of course, because I hear they are afraid of women laughing at them.

What were you saying again about the ‘bra mansplain rapport’ thing Zoe? Actually no don’t, I’m not sure my pelvic floor is up to it!

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 04/06/2019 19:33

thats better

JackyHolyoake · 04/06/2019 19:34

Erm, I’m not using witches as a substitute for transphobes

"Transphobe", just like "transphobia" are meaningless, fictitious terms.

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 04/06/2019 19:35

Zoe, every time you want to write 'T*s', just replace it with 'witches'

Grin

or 'disobedient women'. you don't feel any mystical kinship with them I expect, do you Zoe?

CuriousaboutSamphire · 04/06/2019 19:35

Thanks LangCLeg I did for my own amusement, but it is nice to know someone noticed it Smile

I thought the double hit of We Are Pack was quite good, no... it was fucking amazing. I never thought I'd get 7of9 and Phyllis into the same quote Grin And look, I swored.
