Looking forward to seeing what drops

www.mermaidsuk.org.uk/press-enquiry-from-the-mail-on-sunday-25th-may-2019.html

We are very proud of the training we offer to schools and we have a proven record of helping teachers to support vulnerable children who simply want to get along with their lessons like any of their classmates.

We are disappointed to find that a school governor has made a covert recording of our training because our presentations are not held in secret and all of the scientific and legal information we offer is publicly available and well-tested.

We are surprised to see that a Church of England rector is complaining about our training when we are included in the CoE guidance on support for transgender people, which can be found here.

Part of the work of Mermaids is giving training talks to schools. These talks are well received and are an important part of how we promote an inclusive and informed approach to trans children and those who support them.

We have been contacted by the Mail on Sunday who are doing an article about one such talk. This post is our response, in accordance with our policy of posting our replies to media queries for the benefit of anyone interested in our activities.

Seriously. How are these people not in prison?

I agree @Popchyk. I won't repeat what I wrote about their boss as I think it will get me banned even though it's the truth.

Jelly babies mentioned in this training exercise. This is the most bizarre thing I've ever listened to.

Re the link just posted. Talking about 'gender reveal' parties. The person doing the 'training' said

'what's the person who does the scan?'

'You need to take a step down academically.'

It's utter shite.

Goodness, how sad the comments on here. This talk was requested by teachers at a school where there is a trans child, to aid their understanding. The comments on this thread illustrate exactly why such training is needed. Why not try spreading love and understanding instead of bigotry? #iamhere

Yes, to stamp out parents who are worried about very valid safeguarding issues.

Apollo440 · 26/05/2019 21:19

An 8 year old child who is possibly on the path to puberty blockers, surgery, sterility, lowered IQ due to effects of the drugs. Yeah...you're full of love.

WhyNotMe40 · 26/05/2019 21:23

crincxn out of interest - have you listened to the audio, or just commenting on the comments made on this thread?

JackyHolyoake · 26/05/2019 21:23

This talk was requested by teachers at a school where there is a trans child, to aid their understanding.

Yet one of that school's Governors, who carries the legal liability for what happens in that school, was bullied out of raising any questions about that so-called training by the headteacher and the trainer from Mermaids. That Governor is a graduate in Biology from Oxford University and was querying some of the so-called "science" that the trainer was describing.

moonrises · 26/05/2019 21:24

Trouble is the training is not aiding their understanding, it is training them in a load of dodgy science, misrepresentation of the law and never questioning anything.

CaptainKirksSpookyghost · 26/05/2019 21:26

If it's true that trans children become trans adults, why is waiting so bad, why force it?
Surely watchful waiting is best?

Why can't a boy wear a skirt and be a boy?

FermatsTheorem · 26/05/2019 21:28

Biology denial. Wilful and deliberate lies about what the law of the land (specifically the Equalities Act 2010 actually says). A principled man reduced to tears, then forced into a situation where he felt he had no option other than to resign. And no-one left in that school to say "hang on a minute" when a child of 8 is put on a path to puberty blockers and irreversible surgery.

But apparently the problem is that we aren't spreading love. (Newsflash - if you're reduced to lying about science, lying about the law, and advocating sterilising children... you really should be thinking about having a "Hans, are we the baddies?" moment).

Transcripts from a training session run by Jan (same Mermaids representative) for teachers Decenber 2018.

This was recorded by Michael Conroy (an experienced teacher who understands Safeguarding). Michael Conroy was told off by Jan, the Mermaids representative for being 'too clever' when he asked questions.

'Trans ideologists are spreading cod science
Those who defend controversial charity’s right to a £500,000 lottery grant should really listen to what it is preaching'
(extract)
Are you a Princess Barbie jelly-baby who likes frilly dresses, high heels and takes ages to get ready? Or a GI Joe jelly-baby who wears boots and functional clothing? Did you know that your preference for pink sparkles or muddy sports isn’t down to societal expectations of boys and girls. No, it’s written in your chromosomes. And that’s science.

Well, science according to Mermaids, the charity for trans children, in a presentation understood to be given to thousands of teachers, health workers, police and politicians, and part-funded by the Department for Education.

I listened to a recording of this bizarre 90-minute training lecture and wish others could too. Particularly those who pride themselves on rationality and evidence-based thinking: atheists, fans of Richard Dawkins and Ben Goldacre’s Bad Science; those incensed by climate change deniers on TV or creationists in schools; the same people who are tweeting #istandwithmermaids because the Big Lottery Fund is reviewing, in the light of an outcry, its decision to award them a £500,000 grant.

On tape the Mermaids trainer tells us that humans don’t come in two sexes, male and female, sperm and ovum: “Most people still think that way,” she says airily. “But what we know now, thanks to advances in science, is that the human race has up to 42 different sets of chromosomes.”

Biological sex is on a spectrum, she says, like skin tone and (seriously) bra size. A person’s “gender identity jelly baby” has nothing to do with how we are raised: it is inside you at birth. You know you are a man because you walk like a man and like “manly” things. A listener questions why this lecture is based upon stereotypes and is told “you’re going too clever”. (continues)

Governors have the ultimate responsibilty for a school: for all staff and all pupils.

ExcelPope (another school governor who understands the responsibility to Safeguard) wrote this:

'The unaskable question?'
(extract)
"I spend a lot of time designing policies and procedures, and what I tell people is this:- Imagine a worst-case scenario occurs. There is an official investigation, where you’re asked “What did you do to prevent this happening?”. Now imagine what answer you’d like to be able to give to that question in that scenario – that’s the starting point for writing your policies.

In that vein, here’s a scenario.

You are the head-teacher of a secondary school, with pupils aged 11-18. A police officer arrives at the school and asks to speak to you. They have found a video on a porn site which shows the changing-rooms at your school, including a number of girls, who appear to be aged 13-15, in various states of undress. It has clearly been filmed with a concealed camera-phone.

The video has been taken down, but not before it had tens of thousands of views. The account that posted it has been traced to a student at the school who identifies themselves as trans and was, in accordance with the guidance, allowed to use the female changing rooms.

The police need a female member of staff to view the video with them, to identify the 20 or 30 teenage girls who appear in it, so that they and their parents can be informed that they have been victims of voyeurism.

What did you do to prevent this happening?

The answers that Twitter has thrown up so far don’t seem to be very good answers to that questions. Assertions that it could never happen, that nobody could or would fake being trans just to get access to female spaces, and a strong suggestion that simply asking the question is bigoted, or even “dangerous”.

There are around 2.2 million males aged 13-18 in the UK, no matter how much experience you have with children, with trans people, with trans-children, you cannot absolutely assert that none of them will abuse, or attempt to abuse, the guidance given in a manner that infringes of the rights of other students.

This isn’t about demonising all trans people, or suggesting that any given one of them would act in such a manner. This is about the risk presented by the guidance itself, whether that risk can be mitigated in a manner which is proportional to the potential seriousness of the outcome and whether the risk is, in part or in whole, outweighed by the risks of not implementing the guidance." What's a 'trans child', crlncxn? Do you believe that people can change sex?

AnotherLass · 26/05/2019 21:47

crincxn

I know that you are just being provocative, but hey mate - it is not loving to put children on a path to sterility, reduced sexual function, and a life of hormones and surgeries with god knows what side effects, when we KNOW that most of them desist otherwise and end up perfectly happy with their biological sex.

I know that it may sound too shocking to believe, but that is what is going on. You need to fucking wake up.

FloralBunting · 26/05/2019 21:48

Sometimes I read a thread like this, where the plain and clear evidence of the evil batshittery of the ideology of transing kids is systematically laid out, and I see a trans cult member post that we should be 'spreading love' and I just think about that Simpsons episode where Homer thinks he's met an alien, but it's just Mr Burns out of his tree on medication.

Jan, the Mermaids' representative comment about toilets comes straight from the CEO of the charity Susie Green.

May 2018 Guardian

'Schools pulled into row over helping transgender children
As more teens come out as trans, experts clash over how schools should help'
(extract)

While the Allsorts advice states that “trans pupils or students should have access to the changing room that corresponds to their gender identity” and that in PE lessons, students “should be enabled to participate in the activity which corresponds to their gender identity if this is what they request”, Davies-Arai argues that shared changing rooms present difficulties for some girls. Few teenage girls will be willing to admit that they feel uncomfortable sharing a changing room with a biologically male student, she says.

She points out that the technical guidance on the Equality Act for schools suggests offering students “private changing facilities, such as the staff changing room or another suitable space” – the approach taken at Miles’s school.

Susie Green, CEO of the charity Mermaids, disagrees, saying the debate about single-sex toilets seems “engineered to whip up fear” and is equivalent to “arguing people of colour shouldn’t be allowed to use the same toilets as white people in case they make them dirty”. (continues)

Susie Green & Mermaids demonstrate consistantly that they do not understand Safeguarding.
Mermaids is not informed by expertise on Safeguarding, child development, education, health, mental health or science.

Lobby groups are prohibited from training in schools.

Mermaids Charity have explicitly stated that lobbying is a key part of their work.
