Looking forward to seeing what drops

www.mermaidsuk.org.uk/press-enquiry-from-the-mail-on-sunday-25th-may-2019.html

We are very proud of the training we offer to schools and we have a proven record of helping teachers to support vulnerable children who simply want to get along with their lessons like any of their classmates.

We are disappointed to find that a school governor has made a covert recording of our training because our presentations are not held in secret and all of the scientific and legal information we offer is publicly available and well-tested.

We are surprised to see that a Church of England rector is complaining about our training when we are included in the CoE guidance on support for transgender people, which can be found here.

Part of the work of Mermaids is giving training talks to schools. These talks are well received and are an important part of how we promote an inclusive and informed approach to trans children and those who support them.

We have been contacted by the Mail on Sunday who are doing an article about one such talk. This post is our response, in accordance with our policy of posting our replies to media queries for the benefit of anyone interested in our activities.

This weekend Vincent got in the chicken coop and killed the hens. I don’t normally like real fur but I love my new Fox-fur scarf.

ILoveMaxiBondi · 26/05/2019 13:17

Jesus I just made the connection to Vincent and furries in my head.

Yep, it’s so blatant. But no-one who was oblivious to furries would even blink at seeing a soft toy coming into school. Why wasn’t it just a rag doll of a boy or girl?

CaptainKirksSpookyghost · 26/05/2019 13:24

Ge 'em young enough and you can teach them anything.

SunsetBeetch · 26/05/2019 13:29

I cant find the audio on the Mail article Confused

Needmoresleep · 26/05/2019 13:29

‘Give me the child for the first seven years and I will give you the man’

or woman, I guess.

NeurotrashWarrior · 26/05/2019 13:30

I hadn't quite** made that explicit full connection; the image on the front of the book is far too like many furry avatars from my limited experience. The pose is so sexualised too.

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 26/05/2019 13:30

Right, well even if they don't want Mr Parker, the Foundation Ex-Officio Governor, to discuss any other view, it's not going to stop people (for example) downloading and emailing the TT resource pack to the school and every relevant teacher and governor there and/or printing it off and posting it for good measure.

It's not as if the school is hard to identify, after all, and the email address is right there too.

JustHereforHarriet · 26/05/2019 13:33

Could you imagine anybody wanting their child in a school with such cowardly staff? I want adults who will openly discuss harmful legislation that goes against law. I’d pull them out of there so fast.

DoxxedFox · 26/05/2019 13:38

Urgh. I just read the guidance re how to utilise the Fox. Jesus Christ. Giving a child a toy and nurturing an attachment in order to hijack that later for emotional gaslighting is a literal grooming technique. That’s disgusting.

I could give kids a teddy and encourage them to love it. Let’s call him Billy. Later, Billy needs help covering up a particularly nasty murder. You love Billy, don’t you kids? You don’t want him to be sad or get in trouble? Come on, let’s haul this corpse into the SEAT. On three...

MenstruatorExtraordinaire · 26/05/2019 13:44

Does anyone have a link to the audio for the Daily Mail article please as I can't find it either

CaptainKirksSpookyghost · 26/05/2019 13:45

Giving a child a toy and nurturing an attachment in order to hijack that later for emotional gaslighting is a literal grooming technique.

Yes, it works and it's wrong.

But it works.

The audio seems to have gone again

nauticant · 26/05/2019 13:50

This just makes no sense, they are not being denied access to those toilets because of their gender status, or any other protected characteristic. They are being denied access because of their sex.

Analogies are usually pretty crap in this issue but here's one. It would be like a synagogue having a load of evangelical Christians rocking up and start holding a Christian religious service in the synagogue as the people there look on aghast.

JackyHolyoake · 26/05/2019 14:57

Listening to this again .. that headteacher is not fit for purpose and should be removed from her post!

S1naidSucks · 26/05/2019 15:25

I’m sure the woman talking to John in private, will be hauled over the coals for showing signs of dissent. Mind you, I hope to fuck every one of those spineless prats that sat through that gaslighting session are ashamed of their silence, when he was put through that. I do not have one ounce of sympathy for them, for when their friends and family ask what the fuck is going on at that school.

First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out

Because I was not a socialist.

Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out
Because I was not a trade unionist.

Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out
Because I was not a Jew.

Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

JackyHolyoake · 26/05/2019 15:38

Yes .. there is something about actually hearing yourself on record after the event. I hope those teachers in that room feel utterly humiliated today having heard that recording. And I hope they realise how naive they are being by not realising that they are the ones being groomed so that they, in turn, can groom the children in their care.

John Parker tried to resist that pyramidal grooming process and was shot down by the headteacher. This is why I say she is not fit for purpose if she is incapable of seeing what was going on there. She is not applying any critical thinking or due diligence thinking. She also seems to forget that it is the Governors who are held legally liable for everything that happens in the school environment.

Justhadathought · 26/05/2019 15:43

"We believe all children have the same entitlement to a broadly based challenging curriculum, experiencing success in learning. We make every effort to ensure that the multicultural nature of our society is reflected in the curriculum. We will seek to avoid reinforcing stereotypes of role by carefully selecting and examining all books and materials used with the children"

This was taken from the school's statement on equal opportunities.

ILoveMaxiBondi · 26/05/2019 15:49

So in their conscious efforts to avoid reinforcing stereotypes they chose to introduce a book that deliberately reinforces gender stereotypes. I mean the book literally tells them that if a boy likes “girl” clothing, he must be a girl.

justasking111 · 26/05/2019 15:51

There was a paedo. in our area who kept moving from one rented house to another the only commonality there was the teddies he kept in the windows and the dog he walked in the parks.

theOtherPamAyres · 26/05/2019 16:16

This news story will strike a chord with the parents in Birmingham who say that they cannot trust the judgement and motives of their headteacher and the schools' advisers. I believe that a mediator has been engaged.

The mediation means that it is considered sensible for parents and governors to ask questions and listen to the teachers/providers explantion of the benefits. Transparency, openness, respect for different viewpoints, willingness to listen, clarity, - these are the principles lacking in the Mermaids' approach and the Stonewall approach.

GassyAss · 26/05/2019 16:27

I’ve just listened to the audio and am horrified by the deliberate misinterpretation of the Equality Act. This sort of legal stuff people don’t check. They’ll go off into the workplace repeating those words and believing it to be true.
I do hope after today’s publicity those teachers and other teachers reflect on the lies they are being fed by Jan.

jhuizinga · 26/05/2019 17:03

I've just listened also and found it very upsetting. John Parker is obviously a thoughtful and caring person who was treated appallingly by the ghastly bully of a trainer. I don't think the school will come out of this with its reputation enhanced. The judgement of the head seems very questionable. The Mail article, on the other hand, is very good - particularly its use of an expert to expose the misinformation being given by Mermaids on the legal position.

VortexofBloggery · 26/05/2019 17:59

I hope John Parker finds his way to this board, and reads the support. He did the right thing in speaking up. Brave man.
