Ok I wasn’t sure whether to post this in a more general section or here but has anyone else been following the Moby controversy with his initial autobiography and weird follow ups?

Most sane men seem to go to desperate lengths to deny being a pervert or their predatory past times but here is a guy who had a relatively good reputation as a lefty with no previous accusations against him who seems to be determined to tell everyone how much of a wrong un he was and is! Is the bloke going mad or just totally lacking self awareness of how bad he’s coming across. It’s like he’s determined for everyone to hate him or something

It’s so lame also. He’s bragging about pull good looking younger girls but doesn’t even seem to have been successful at getting them into bed and seems to fail to get anywhere past the kissing stage! Seems like he’s in the middle of a break down as at least Natalie Portman has said he’s talking shite

The only bit I'm aware of is the bit about Natalie Portman. She says she was 18 and extremely uncomfortable about the attention from this 33yo man, he doubles down and says they were definitely dating. Very odd behaviour on his part.

Babblepook · 24/05/2019 20:55

Having never been a fan I enjoyed his first book but I do think he’s a very very odd person. I guess it doesn’t make him a bad person though

Caucho · 24/05/2019 20:57

The crazy thing is NP had never even called him out about being a creep when she would have been within her rights to do so. Only responded as he brought her into it and then he got annoyed about her denying his fantasy relationship ever existing. The book was bad enough and I’ll judged but when the whole world pointed out it makes him look like complete wrong one he seemed to put the pedal to the floor determined to smash into the wall. Wouldn’t be surprised off the back of this loads of women will come out of the woodwork who previously kept quiet and he ends up getting arrested for something

Don't ask me how I know this (!) but he was notorious on tour for having his staff pull young women out of the audience . He's a known shagger. Apparently he had a double bed on his tour bus. It's always the quiet ones!

Caucho · 24/05/2019 21:02

Nothing wrong with being a shagger if that’s all he did. Others will have done worse but don’t seem to want to shout it from the rooftops like this guy. And if he’s such a good shagger why does he make stuff up which he didn’t even do?

That article is something else ShockHmm

Rubidium · 24/05/2019 21:07

As the author of this Guardian article says, the expression on Natalie Portman's face in the photograph Moby posted on Instagram as supposed proof of their 'relationship' is "the face you put on when you don’t want to offend a dude who is hitting on you." I think we've all been there.

This piece is unusually perceptive for the Graun, as it accurately describes the archetypal woke bloke with which we're all familiar round here: presents themselves to the world as a progressive nice guy but is ultimately still a raging misogynist when things don't go their way.

Erythronium · 24/05/2019 21:08

Lana Del Rey has just gone up in my estimation. He sounds totally boring and a creep.

Sagradafamiliar · 24/05/2019 21:09

More a tosser than a shagger.

MrsDoylesTeaBags · 24/05/2019 21:11

myrteWilson That is hilarious, almosy makes me want to read it Grin

Caucho · 24/05/2019 21:13

I don’t think he did much shagging either. He seems to resent the fact that despite being mega wealthy and famous women still didn’t want to sleep with him (when it should be a piece of piss to get laid as a rock star).

The Guardian article was good and why I started this but unfortunately they changed a lot of the content and the headline after originally publishing it for some inexplicable reason. Originally referred to misogynist and woke ‘Beta men’ and they amended it to nice guys or something similar

The only good thing about that book is the proceeds go to an animal charity.

RuffleCrow · 24/05/2019 21:16

Another yawny creepy vegany misogynistic woke bro. Ick.

I do like the fact that the world has finally woken up to the fact that being Woke and being a generally decent human being are not in any way interchangeable.

foreverhanging · 24/05/2019 21:23

That article is just...... wowwww

RuffleCrow · 24/05/2019 21:27

I hope the Lana Del Rey story is true. Grin

OhHolyJesus · 24/05/2019 21:30

What a total wanker.

Tattletale · 24/05/2019 21:35

That article. What a load of self indulgent tripe!

Caucho · 24/05/2019 21:37

If he tried this on with famous actresses and singers in their own right fuck knows what he was like with the plebs and fans. I foresee some more serious accusations coming out but don’t want to be libellous. Just making an educated guess

The whole thing reminds me of that scene in the film Juno. She spends time hanging out with the couple who're going to adopt her baby (they're planning an open adoption - supposedly possible in the US, though I'm not sure how often it happens in practice). She thinks of the bloke as a father/elder brother figure and is really enjoying hanging out with him and playing guitar - right up till he hits on her.

Same creepy vibe coming off Moby, in spades. Which is a shame because back in the day I liked his music.

nauticant · 24/05/2019 21:50

I thought his dodgy nature in this regard had been generally known for many years.

Caitlin Moran did a find job in today's The Times:

www.thetimes.co.uk/article/caitlin-morans-celebrity-watch-when-moby-met-natalie-portman-0bjm8qkkw

The section about Moby is at the end and is cut off. No great exposé, just an appropriately cutting summary. Maybe some kind person will come along with a share token.

TheSpottedZebra · 24/05/2019 21:57

I can't read that Times article - and I'm no teenage editor of a music mag - but even I knew that Moby has had an awful reputation. Always has. Just a common or garden creep, with fame, money and power, who was also vegan.

Caucho · 24/05/2019 21:58

I don’t know if it’s because I’m a man just found it fascinating and so odd that he actively attempt to draw attention to this. It’s not as if he was subject to any accusations publicly beforehand.

An yes some people are too good to be true. Oh look at him he’s great. He cares about animals, is anti racist and vegan and calls out Eminem for his misogynistic rap lyrics. These guys are far worse than the old fashioned white van man making some inappropriate cat calls as they claim moral superiority. Like that Eninem example. Got no idea about Eminem but probably behaved far better than that fucking hypocrite

Caucho · 24/05/2019 22:04

Shouldn’t be surprised though. Just look at Rolf Harris. Was also going to mention Jimmy Saville but he was obvious to me after that Louis Theroux doc
