To stop facilitating transphobia apparently.
According to the Labour Students women's officer .

Perhaps Mumsnet should offer them a Webchat, they always go down so well.

FamilyOfAliens · 24/05/2019 16:28

Its all a bit Grange Hill. Lets put our uniforms on back to front. That'll show em.

grin

FamilyOfAliens · 24/05/2019 16:29

Whoops Blush

JackyHolyoake · 24/05/2019 16:33

"NSU "women"

Nonspecific Urethritis?"

Love it! NUS obvs!

notatwork · 24/05/2019 16:54

LM is Goldsmiths SU womens officer, not The NUS womens officer.

NUSWomens' officer is Rachel Watters. I don't agree with her priorities but she's got real experience and passion in the areas of reproductive rights. Her Bio is very impressive. Very next-gen though: intersectionality (lots and lots of mention of intersectionality) and the legalization of prostitution.

All those on the right side of HIStory are welcome to come and discuss on mumsnet. Nobody needs to misrepresent the equality act to come here. And, really, moderation is somewhat to the favour of TRAs.

I find it fascinating that mumsnet is the most female dominated space I've experienced and yet is not single sex. I wonder if, being online (so no physical bodies) and without money or status involved, males have some of their greatest power advantages removed. And many males are just not used to getting by without them.

If only Madigan didn't block any woman who so much as suggests Madigan might be wrong about something, Madigan might learn something and not look like such a colossal nerk.

notatwork · 24/05/2019 17:11

Nerk. A word I have never seen before but like very much, Thanks :)

JackyHolyoake · 24/05/2019 17:11

intersectionality (lots and lots of mention of intersectionality) and the legalization of prostitution.

1 Intersectionality: perhaps Watters needs to read, mark and inwardly digest what Kimberlé Cranshaw actually wrote about intersectionality in order to understand how deeply corrupted that concept has now become?

2 Legalisation of prostitution: perhaps Watters needs to read, mark and inwardly digest what Julie Bindel has written about this issue, with specific reference to "The Pimping of Prostitution"? Plus reading Rachel Moran "Paid For", Caitlin Spencer "Please Let Me Go" and others.?

Interesting thoughts stillathing

notatwork · 24/05/2019 17:19

@JackyHolyoake Probably yes. It's a generational outlook I don't share, but definitely cause celebre at the moment with the young folk.

The fact that Rachel is right at the forefront of repro rights/maternity issues/abortion on demand is heartwarming. A womens issue impacting women.

ChattyLion · 24/05/2019 17:20

Well it did almost look as if the NUS have been hiding away for these past months because they didn’t want to answer any questions about Jess Bradley the trans officer and some questions around serious sexually-related creepiness.

So that’s good if they now are back around to be answering questions. (These are all set out on Mumsnet threads, if anyone wants to know more.)

TheInebriati · 24/05/2019 17:24

If you want to talk about hate speech, some of us have long memories and print screen.

KarenTheCashRegister · 24/05/2019 17:26

Yes, I’d like to discuss Jess Bradley with the NUS. should be very informative.

Doyoumind · 24/05/2019 17:29

NUS and Labour Students Women aren't the same thing though. LSW is LM. Can't see any reference to this campaign.

I did see LM has changed the handle to 'Girls Gang'. What sort of person would think that was a good idea for a women's political group? Rhetorical question.

JackyHolyoake · 24/05/2019 17:33

And a sincere apology is offered to Rachael Moran for mistakenly typing your name as Rachel.

JackyHolyoake · 24/05/2019 17:34

It's a generational outlook I don't share, but definitely cause celebre at the moment with the young folk.

Yes, it seems the youngsters are not too keen on studying any of this history.

Melroses · 24/05/2019 17:39

When I was at university we campaigned against student loans* and low quality housing.

  • We won that round - until Tony Blair, then Nick Clegg+Cameron Angry
Melroses · 24/05/2019 17:41

Yes, what happened there Hmm

BackOnceAgainWithABurnerEmail · 24/05/2019 17:46

Lol that tweet has a whole 37 likes. What a numpty.

nauticant · 24/05/2019 17:47

Maybe this person will actually do this. Or maybe they're just making a statement to provoke a reaction and will then do nothing. Have a look at their track record and decide which of these is most likely.

KarenTheCashRegister · 24/05/2019 17:51

You’re being very unfair Nauticant - they once wrote “stop” on their hand. 😂

Outanabout · 24/05/2019 17:56

The level of delusion shown by KatVon's screenshot is staggering. I guess it comes from living in an echo chamber where nobody tells you to get a grip.

GrimDamnFanjo · 24/05/2019 18:08

@Doyoumind you're right. On is labour students women's officer and Goldsmiths women's officer. They recently attended nus women's conference and reported back on Twitter that the NUS women's campaign would be lobbying Mumsnet moving forwards.
