Helen Steel chucked off mass trespass on moors because others felt 'unsafe' to be close to someone with her views

Helen Steel, for goodness sake. Took on McDonald's and won. Exposed the Met putting undercover police officers into environmental groups and ending up in long-term relationships and fathering children with women members. And now, because she recognises basic biology, stands up for the right of lesbians to be same-sex attracted and has defended others being physically attacked and bullied by people of a different point of view, she is told she makes others feel unsafe and on day three of a mass trespass on the moors she is told to leave the camp so that the terrified people lurking nearby can finally come in without suffering a mental collapse.

@toddyban on Twitter has a thread detailing what happened. A few people left with her. The organisers didn't have the guts to come and tell her themselves.

They’re afraid to be out on the Moors with her in a crowd of hundreds but they are absolutely unafraid to be alone with her in the same bathroom: in fact they insist on it.

Ereshkigal · 14/05/2019 17:18

Quite stark when you put it like that.

In Leeds, a ‘managed zone’ has been implemented in Holbeck, wherein law enforcement does not prosecute the sale of sex within designated non-residential areas. This has provided space for the delivery of welfare services and facilitated greater protection for vulnerable sex workers in the zone. Despite its clear social benefits, there has been a concerted effort by campaigners, the council and property developers to shut it down

That's appalling, Lass. I have various woke friends in Leeds, we don't talk about things like this for obvious reasons. I wonder if they've swallowed this bullshit.

Scrowy · 14/05/2019 17:28

I can assure you Lass that in a very similar situation our landlord couldn't give a stuff. Fortunately in our case it was a field we had just silaged (but sadly not slurries Grin) rather than were about to put sheep and lambs onto as was the situation in this case, but still irritating none the less.

I wasn't meaning it in class terms, just that the person actually directly upset by the camp was the tenant farmer who has no sway regarding the issues they were protesting about, and not the landlords they were protesting against.

ThePurportedDoctoress · 14/05/2019 18:21

These orgs really need to consider what this batshittery does to their credibility. If you want to grow a movement that claims to promote fairness and seeks to influence public policy, the purging of women who don't believe that lesbians have penises is not a good look. It's insane.

Here is the specific page about Leeds.

I mentioned that I think extreme left wing groups are far more dangerous than extreme right wing groups because "left =good" giving them the ability to attract funding and credibility which a right wing group could not. The charity below is linked with

Helen Steel is a fucking legend. What have the useless twonks who tried to throw her off the trespass ever done with their lives?

"Unsafe", ffs. What brave, brave activists they must be.

ArcheryAnnie · 15/05/2019 00:36

Very good point, this.

hipsterfun · 15/05/2019 00:49

You have to wonder how they’d cope faced with a highly pissed off fast-‘food’ multinational...

ChattyLion · 15/05/2019 01:00

Helen is a legend. Flowers

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 15/05/2019 09:21

Why aren't they embarrassed to be / make out they are so pathetic?

KatvonHostileExtremist · 15/05/2019 09:30

We live in the age of the "victim" i guess countess

Beamur · 15/05/2019 09:48

If this is the protest camp that has just happened near Hebden Bridge, the organisers seem to have good intentions but have mishandled this on many levels. The camp was supposed to be on land owned by a chap called Bannister who has had some flak locally about his land management practices (grouse moor) and the impact of it on local flooding. But they managed to camp on someone else's land, it's the tail end of the lambing season and nesting season for ground nesting birds.
It's not desperately remote moorland round there to be honest.
They've done little to further their cause with the camp and this makes them look even dopier.

RuffleCrow · 15/05/2019 09:53

They misspelt 'insecure'.

Not Helen's problem if their 'identities' can't withstand even gentle questions.

collieflowers · 15/05/2019 10:07

Perhaps the next step should be that Helen Steel and her supporters are banned from all women's bathrooms/groups etc in case they make the poor transwomen feel 'unsafe'. Then gender critical women could just stay at home and leave public life and politics to the men, which seems to be what the TRAs want to return to.

Mumminmum · 15/05/2019 10:34

They don't feel safe being near a woman who has opinions. FFS. Immature self-righteous gits!

TheGoalIsToStayOutOfTheHole · 15/05/2019 18:10

The treatment of Helen has been utterly appalling and the thought she would make someone feel 'unsafe' is so utterly ludicrous I don't get how people fall for this shite.

I didn't knbow she had been surrounded by TRAs 4 times now either. But of course she has a point. Its their bejaviour that actually does make people unsafe, nevermind 'feel unsafe'..so how on earth do they feel unsafe because of her when she has not once reacted, TRAs commit actual violence against women on a regular basis for fucks sake. yet women having opinions is terrifying for them? Fuck off.

Waterandlemonjuice · 15/05/2019 18:16

We are through the looking glass indeed. What idiocy.

Missingstreetlife · 15/05/2019 18:42

I wouldn't call women's strike left wing in conventional,sense.
Anarchy has come to mean selfishly doing as I please. It should be about community, ppl joining together to do things for themselves and others. Alternatives and challenges to oppressive state and power. Not picking on women

GeordieGenes · 15/05/2019 19:02

This is classic DAVRO Sad

hipsterfun · 15/05/2019 19:07

Anarchy has come to mean selfishly doing as I please.

Selfish idiots have increasingly self-styled as anarchists, certainly; a shame because it prejudices people’s view of the philosophy which, as you say, has a lot we can usefully draw on.

ArcheryAnnie · 19/05/2019 01:55

Women's Strike, as far as I know, are iconnected to Wages for Housework, who have always had batshit cult-like practices. A lot of the recent TRA activity (DARVO, the demands for absolute compliance, the ban on having friends with different opinions to you, all of it) has reminded me very strongly of how Women's Strike have behaved in the past.

I feel really sorry for all the women who have taken part in Women's Strike events in good faith, not knowing all of this.

terfsandwich · 19/05/2019 04:27

They look nothing like the anarchists of yore that I knew at uni.

Sunkisses · 19/05/2019 17:13

A letter in support of Helen Steel is here: batcan8.wixsite.com/gc19/solidarity-with-helen-steel

You can email the organiser and ask to be added to it if you wish. The organiser tweeted about it here: twitter.com/toddybann/status/1130065195273994240

Women's Strike are the very opposite of feminist. They are a front group for the disgusting, exploitative international sex industry. Their 'activism' revolves around promoting the sexual servicing of men by women (stripping, prostitution, lap dancing etc). It makes total sense that they now also centre men who claim to be women in their 'activism'. It's the logical conclusion of their inversion of feminism.

Helen Steel, in total contrast, is a woman of the highest integrity.
