Madigan's Latest Targets

I was in two minds whether to open this thread, because often posts end up being deleted, but I decided (rightly or wrongly) to do so.

From telling Maya to "fck off" and then repeatedly, over and over again, telling people how they had told her to "fck off" it looks like Madigan will now be going for Joanna Cherry. Apparently, she has been "transphobic".

Why can we never simply have a calm, reasoned debate about this?
Any time anyone raises a point of view, in the mildest way, that does not subscribe fully to this rigid trans dogma they are vilified and attacked in an uber-aggressive way. It is bullying and everyone is fearful of voicing an opinion. I want to use the word "sinister" about this - because I feel it is sinister, to stifle debate.

I genuinely do not understand how somebody like Madigan has been allowed to consistently attack women in this way. They seem to have protected status as being "trans" - Madigan knows this, so they just keep on being vicious.

If anybody does want to post, please make sure it is not offensive. Because often there has been interesting points that have then disappeared because of a wrong word or phrase, or another post that was a bit OTT makes the whole thing go.

"Sam" in that thread is completely correct. Being trans or defending trans is a license to get away with activity that would normally be seen as beyond the pale. And yet no-one seems to see and condemn this?

Other groups who say or do things beyond the pale in defence of others are not given the same free pass - see animal activists for example.

KatvonHostileExtremist · 08/05/2019 16:52

Who enables this person?
Social media must play it's part. But why v are they allowed to behave as obnoxiously as possible without censure

That reminds me. Must make sure DH has cancelled his labour party membership

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 08/05/2019 16:56

It's not just Madigan though - many prominent TRAs get away with saying abhorrent things or bullying women, and no-one bats an eyelid.

ILuvBirdsEye · 08/05/2019 16:57

Absolutely no idea. The only possible idea I have on this is misogyny. But I can't believe that so many people, at so many levels turn a blind eye to so much because misogyny.

So I am back to - I have no idea.

Watching with interest.

GCAcademic · 08/05/2019 16:58

People just need to ignore this child. Why so much attention is paid to the mental farts of lunatics on Twitter is beyond me.

KatvonHostileExtremist · 08/05/2019 17:00

Wail. You speak the truth GC
But they just wind me up so much. I need a bloody trigger warning

I used to think that too. Not any more Sad ...

LM ceased being a child a fair while back. Fully grown adult.

LizzieSiddal · 08/05/2019 17:18

I sadly can. Its been going on forever, and people have got a way with it forever. Why would it change now?

However, I do hope after the Joanna Cherry grilling, Twitter will have to change their policy re misogyny. Maybe this will filter down to the misogynists and the general public, but who the heck knows.

I have come to the conclusion there is literally nothing they can do wrong....

I am.undecided however if the minions are egging them on to see how far they can make them go for a laugh in the hope they show the world what's really going on.

Or whether they really do believe in it all.

Whatisthisfuckery · 08/05/2019 17:25

Can we please stop giving this insignificant individual the oxygen of attention they crave? There are politicians and large organisations with actual influence to concentrate on rather than wasting time and energy on what is effectively an errant youth swearing into the void. They are like Tinkerbell, when you stop clapping along they’ll become very small then go away.

KittiesInsane · 08/05/2019 17:29

From that link, it's a good point they make that it 'completely trivialises how serious real transphobia is'.

Go after the genuine 'transphobes', Lily. The ones who shout, and threaten, and bully, and even injure. Not the people who simply want female to mean female, and women to mean female people.

Needmoresleep · 08/05/2019 17:34

Is the problem Momentum?

If someone has Momentum backing it does not really matter what they do: misogyny; antisemitism; whatever. Only Momentum can rein them in, and they don't worry as long as that person is loyal?

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 08/05/2019 17:52

It's not just about this particular insignificant individual.

Link is Joanna Cherry interviewing a twitter employee about misogyny on their platform.

Oncewasblueandyellowtwo · 08/05/2019 18:02

Reminds me of a certain cyclist on twitter, usually has maybe 10 replies at a push on a post but when they add in misogony and attacking women the replies can be in the 100s, yes a lot are from people disagreeing but a lot in support too. What's the saying, no such thing as bad publicity...

RedToothBrush · 08/05/2019 18:09

That's Joanna Cherry who has currently police protection due to a specific death threat on twitter after her comments about the abuse of women on social media.

AnotherLass · 08/05/2019 18:11

You may all disagree with me, but I don't think that the absurd indulgence towards people like Lily can be explained just in terms of misogyny.

I think that trans has been accorded magical status because people feel on a deep level that something about what they are being told doesn't make sense, and yet they have also been told that if they don't believe it PEOPLE WILL DIE.

And that creates cognitive dissonance that makes them terrified of looking at anything in the area. So anyone who even says that they are trans becomes a magical being who can never be questioned.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 08/05/2019 18:11

Yup. It really isn't just Madigan or various dodgy doctors or self identifying lawyers. Its an awful lot of men using this movement to excuse their behaviour towards women.

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 08/05/2019 18:18

PEOPLE WILL DIE
Hmmm yes, meanwhile women like Joanna Cherry receive actual death threats and require police protection.

scotsheather · 08/05/2019 18:34

Intimidation of women by those with different viewpoints. Some things don't change, although it usually comes from men not a woman.

placemats · 08/05/2019 18:45

The way Madigan is treated within the Labour Party reminds me of the very unsavoury Carl Benjamin.

placemats · 08/05/2019 18:50

Just in case. Link to the fragrant Carl. I'm being sarcastic.

lobsterkiller · 08/05/2019 20:15

LM has form for going for women. Lily did try to go for Lewis Moonie who basically Lily to fuck off, so LM has stick to the safe option of attacking women.

We have each other blocked, I would never take the piss out of Lily for being trans, I take the piss out of the ridiculous shite that drops out of LM's stupid gob.

I really should learn not to engage.
