Scotsman article here

So far they have been firm re. protecting freedom of speech, but the pressure is escalating and will continue, and they will keep a close eye on the balance of negative/positive correspondence.

The event details are here.

If any of you could write in support of the event the key recipients would be the head of the School of Education Prof. Rowena Arshad ([email protected]) and the Principal Prof. Peter Mathieson ([email protected]).

But to adopt a position where for little gain you disadvantage other parts of the community

You mean like disadvantaging 51% of the population to satisfy a small %age of males?

WizbetisaNizbet · 08/06/2019 10:37

As Jacky says focus your energy on campaigning for a third space services. I'd be fully behind you.

The campaign for women's rights reminds me of the The Little Red Hen story.

My forebears worked hard to ensure that we have women's sports, services, spaces, votes. They baked the bread and now everyone who didn't want help now wants to have a piece of it.

RobinMoiraWhite · 08/06/2019 10:43

And there you lose me.

I won’t be campaigning for ‘third space’ services. Aka Ghettos. I will continue to take my place in the mainstream society I, and all minorities (and we are all ultimately minorities) deserve to be.

JackyHolyoake · 08/06/2019 10:53

I won’t be campaigning for ‘third space’ services meaning persistence in violating women's boundaries against their consent.

We have a word for that kind of culture.

Outanabout · 08/06/2019 10:55

There are several threads today that have me sitting on my hands, as I don't want to be banned.

Outanabout · 08/06/2019 10:56

Men just won't take no for an answer, will they?

GCAcademic · 08/06/2019 10:56

The fact that you consider women’s safety and sex-based rights to be “little gain” is telling, though not surprising.

EverardDigby · 08/06/2019 11:29

I don't know why the entitlement still surprises me!

Outanabout · 08/06/2019 11:31

Blinkered.

WizbetisaNizbet · 08/06/2019 11:35

Ah there it is. Pure entitlement. No empathy, just me, me, me.

MsJeminaPuddleduck · 08/06/2019 11:37

June 2016: 15,000
June 2018: 177,000

I would love to know the increase from June 2018 to now - it must be massive. Look at how quickly Maya Forster reached her fundraising total and how quickly WPUK tickets sell out

TalkingintheDark · 08/06/2019 11:59

Ah there it is. Pure entitlement. No empathy, just me, me, me.

Isn’t it just, Wizbet.

The one thing I’d thank Robin for is this masterclass in narcissism.

Robin clearly has no idea how Robin is coming across, nor how many women reading this will be agog at the disingenuousness, the complete refusal/inability to see any of this from any perspective other than Robin’s own self interest.

Robin is so utterly convinced of Robin’s rightness (that male socialisation is a bugger to get rid of, eh!) that it literally wouldn’t even occur to Robin to listen to us and take our views seriously, attempt to actually engage with what we’re saying.

Well done, Robin! You’re helping so many women see clearly on this. What a trouper.

Lifeinthelastlane · 08/06/2019 12:09

Discrimination imposed to deal with illusory fears - no
Saying that male bodied people should not use women’s toilets is not relating to an illusory fear, but a very real one.

GCAcademic · 08/06/2019 12:54

TW fears of men in male toilets = "real fear"
Women's fears of males in female toilets = "illusory fear"

RobinMoiraWhite · 08/06/2019 13:19

A question, if I may.

I have seen various versions of the 80% of trans women are ‘intact’ statistic. Given the inherent difficulties in collecting such data, is it a statistic? Can it be tracked to an origin or is it just a mantra?

LangCleg · 08/06/2019 13:25

I won’t be campaigning for ‘third space’ services.

To be perfectly frank with you, Robin, neither will I.

Quite why I would want to spend my time and resources on campaigning for things to be made better for endlessly entitled AMAB (lingo mandated by forum rules) people, I cannot imagine.

Instead, I shall spend my time and resources on campaigning for the protection and extension of spaces and services for AFAB (lingo mandated by forum rules) people so that they are as unaffected by male entitlement as possible.

I believe that's what we used to call women's liberation.

Datun · 08/06/2019 13:26

(excluding me from female toilets in public buildings a la backwoods USA, for example)

What on earth can you mean robin?

Discrimination imposed to deal with illusory fears - no.

You sound very confused.

Your fear of being in a backwoods male toilet is valid, because of male violence?

But if course ours of having men in our private spaces as we disrobe, for the same reason, isn't.

Plus you are using the argument that a woman's group have no problem, because you've never told them what the problems are!

Your personal preference of finding the women's more appealing to you (shock), is neither here nor there when women get to determine their own boundaries.

You violating their boundaries is violating their consent.

You asked up thread what risk you posed, personally. Violating women's consent shows exactly what risk you pose.

And the statistic for surgery comes from GIRES, I believe. A trans support group.

LangCleg · 08/06/2019 13:30

I have seen various versions of the 80% of trans women are ‘intact’ statistic. Given the inherent difficulties in collecting such data, is it a statistic? Can it be tracked to an origin or is it just a mantra?

Ask and thee shall receive.

It's a combination of information provided by that dreadfully transphobic source GIRES, and NHS capacity to perform the requisite surgery as reported by the dreadful trans-hating Grauniad.

Nic Williams has belt and braced it over on the FPW website but I'm unsure if such a link would be acceptable to you.

Cwenthryth · 08/06/2019 13:35

Robin, this is a thread about a women’s rights event at a university, the pressure the university had to resist to give women the space and time to speak and be heard, and the ensuing attack by a transactivist on one of the women speaking afterwards. Why are you trying to me-rail it to become all about you? Engage with the topic at hand, or quite frankly feel free to fuck off, start your own thread if you want to discuss statistics of transwomen retaining their penises, backwoods USA bathrooms or anything else.

Outanabout · 08/06/2019 13:55

Me me me is a very successful derailing technique all over FWR threads though, and even on some threads on AIBU if they dare to stay onto a subject they shouldn't, like some women's preference for female doctors or nurses for intimate procedures. That thread was awash with posters who constantly brought everything back to their own speshul circumstances.

TalkingintheDark · 08/06/2019 13:57
EverardDigby · 08/06/2019 14:02

Let me refer you to this thread Robin, which will demonstrate you you how many women say nothing to "be nice" www.mumsnet.com/Talk/am_i_being_unreasonable/3606935-Transgender-relative-dont-know-where-to-start

Cwenthryth · 08/06/2019 14:15

Flipping fed up of the entitled narcissism on display. No apologies.

RobinMoiraWhite · 08/06/2019 14:17

So not a statistic but a deduction, ignoring factors like folk like me who went abroad. Thought so. Thanks.

WizbetisaNizbet · 08/06/2019 14:23

Can anyone translate hyperbole?
