I can’t believe what I’ve just watched. Eddie Izzard is on Joe Rogan saying ALL bathrooms should be gender neutral and completely dismissed the concerns women have that Joe brought up. He dismissed it as “people always complain when there’s change”

The whole thing is so selfish and entitled.

But this is it.
Men simply don’t think about what women use the toilets for.
They go in there to shit and piss, that’s it.
They don’t understand what women use the space for, yet they think they can tell us what to do.

Menstruation and miscarriage won't have occured to Eddie, Neurotrash. He doesn't think biological sex exists, and we're all just on a spectrum. Someone should explain to him where babies come from.

I read about women in India sneaking out to the fields in the dead of night to toilet to avoid men.

A quick google will bring up many articles about the direct link between a lack of toilets in India and rape.

This kind of argument proves to me that men think that they are the default and women are some odd faulty kind of men. Men can get through the day without needing to bleed all over the place so why can’t women do the same.

In what way did he face all his fears? He continued to change his clothes in a space designated for women instead of facing his fears in the mens toilets. In so doing he was sending women a clear message that his fears and need to be safe trump theirs. He bent the rules to his own end but that’s ok, isn’t it? 😡

I can't object to these being unisex, just like disabled or train/plane toilets. I also think this is much safer all round than flimsy stalls in an isolated room.

Why? So Izzard gets validated by using the women's but they all have to change to keep women safe? From what I wonder?

Up until now, women haven't had to be in a fortress, with floor-to-ceiling walls and their own sink and sanitary bin. However luxurious that might be, it's been entirely unnecessary.

The reason toilets are not generally like this is that if someone passes out in them, (during a miscarriage, for instance), they can easily be reached. Or if they are being held inside them, it's harder to keep that quiet with gaps above and below.

I'm not saying women wouldn't like their own enclosed space, but they are generally held to be not as safe, and why should everything have to change, just because some men need validation?

Eddie isn't campaigning for purpose built self contained toilets. He's campaigning for men to be in the women's toilets.

Any changes that need to be made as a result of men like Eddie being in the women's toilets will be have to be campaign for by women.

Someone mentioned earlier that Eddie Izzard does appeals for UNICEF (?) on behalf of Yemen, is he one of those celebrity UNICEF Ambassadors? Are they aware that Eddie is against their proposals for single sex toilet facilities? How can he defend UNICEF aims in this regard and disagree with the same proposals under the same criteria elsewhere? If he says single sex is only needed in certain countries, why? I can't see how he can defend that without invoking hideous stereotypes against people of those countries.

I don't know much about this person, but I'm going to presume that they don't have a daughter?

I'm very claustrophobic and hate using totally enclosed toilet cubicles. I really need that gap above/below or I can feel quite panicky.

When my dc were young they used to like me to stand outside the toilet door with my foot underneath. This gave them the confidence to go in alone, but with the reassurance that I was still there.

But why do we even have to lower ourselves by explaining in intimate detail why we don’t want to share toilets with men?

We just don’t want to and we make up 51% of the population. We don’t need to explain ourselves or ask permission. We just need to constantly say no.
