Interesting conference being held by the National Autistic Society. Speakers are pro trans I would say.
Facebook comments are interesting and NAS have issued a warning to block people!

Do you have a reference for the original graphic thingybob? I am not sure I want to put Phallometer in any bibliographic search engine.

Thingybob · 18/05/2019 11:10

There is an entry on Wikipedia KTara

KTara · 18/05/2019 11:18

Ah, thank you!

KTara · 18/05/2019 11:26

Some of the references in the Wikipedia entry are very interesting. I remember hearing someone from an intersex advocacy organisation, I cannot remember the name, speaking in the US in 2000. It was really the first time I was aware of any of the issues and I found it very powerful. Such a shame the arguments seem to be being appropriated and misrepresented now.

Datun · 18/05/2019 11:29

Phallo-meter???

Bloody hell.

DuMondeB · 18/05/2019 11:50

Because we all piss out of our clitorises, right?

For fuck’s sake.

All the advances made in understanding women’s biology & sexual function are being jettisoned in favour of an imaginary sex-spectrum.

GirlDownUnder · 19/05/2019 03:09

Apparently MN pre-ordered the protest Hmm

Replying to @DKLeather and @networkautism
Mumsnuts pre-ordered the protest. See the attached thread. Their level of accuracy is as high as ever. Read the utter drivel they post about what 'phallometers' were--they are not well people.

And from what else I’ve read, this is a total fabrication! Angry

That was truly a massacre in the end. Total 'gender critical' attack at the level of screaming "lesbians are being raped" at the end. A conference for gender and autism wherein trans folk felt unsafe, hated and attacked. Awful traumatic experience. Group self soothing at home.

But lol at Group self soothing at home.

OldCrone · 19/05/2019 03:18

Another thread here about this conference.

GirlDownUnder · 19/05/2019 03:54

Thanks OldCrone it's all so sad, and frustrating, and I'm trying really hard not to be mad at the internet because it's not productive but bloody hell.

I'm not a scientist, or a doctor, or particularly bright, but even I can work out this is such bullshit. i don't understand how this is being passed off as fact by 'experts'.

10Hats · 19/05/2019 13:18

But lol at Group self soothing at home.
@GirlDownUnder as you'll probably know 'self soothing' is very important part of life for autistic people, as a means of self-regulating especially after distressing situations. Nice of you to find it soooo funny.
Do you also point and laugh at the coping strategies common to other disabilities?

KatvonHostileExtremist · 19/05/2019 15:34

girl
Came to post the same thing. We ordered the attack. Lol. Ridiculous. Could they be more melodramatic?

A person asked a question at the end of the session. An autistic person who had every right to ask for evidence about the things that were being stated as fact. That same person had their delegate reservation sign ripped out of their hands and scrumpled up.

10 hats sometimes language used by the neuro divergent community can seem unusual to people who aren't from that community. Especially when that language was included in a statement that also contains massive lies. Sorry if you were offended. Are you offended by lying? I am.

Multiple people were there and to class asking a question as "a total massacre" is frankly ludicrous.

KatvonHostileExtremist · 19/05/2019 15:36

"Screaming attack"

Honestly

Thanks Kat Smile

Yes, exactly my lol was tongue in cheek as the tweet was referring to wherein trans folk felt unsafe not pointing and laughing Confused, as the person they are describing as creating a* massacre in the end and* screaming is Clare B Dimyon who was there, and was badly misrepresented by those posts. I very much respect Clare B, I hope she has all the support she needs, and if I've offended her I'd be mortified.

It seems to be 10Hats only post so far so, so maybe they'll follow up?

10Hats · 19/05/2019 16:26

GirlDownUnder not sure why it's relevant to comment it's my 'first post' (does this devalue it?), but I've been posting for over 10 years, I just change names often. Your comment may have been tongue in cheek but it jarred with me, for reasons that should be obvious. Don't really want to engage with the issues re lying Kat, just was a bit taken aback at the tongue in cheek laughing at autistic 'self soothing'.

GirlDownUnder · 19/05/2019 16:36

Maybe 10Hats you'd like to post a little solidarity with Clare B Dimyon who took a lot of unnecessary flack at the meeting, and a lot of badly misrepresented (could be referred to as blatant lies) on SM after the event?

10Hats · 19/05/2019 16:39

@girldownunder I wasn't there, I've no idea what happened. Why should I post something just because you say I should? You know what I was taking issue with. A tad dictatorial to suggest what I should say next...

Thingybob · 19/05/2019 16:41

10Hats Wasn't it the expression 'group self soothing' that caused a chuckle as surely that is an oxymoron?

10Hats · 19/05/2019 16:44

It's not really an oxymoron @thingybob.

GirlDownUnder · 19/05/2019 16:57

10Hats just a heads up, not telling you how to do you, or dictating, or anything, but as you've been posting for 10 years you'll know that you don't need to @ people already in the conversation, and in fact some people find it quite rude.

I think you're finding me adversarial, so please don't feel you have to reply to me. You'll already know I'm the low hanging fruit in terms of intellect so don't waste your time.

I know what I said is in no way reflected in your take away.

10Hats · 19/05/2019 17:06

Actually I didn't know that using @ is considered rude. But there's really no need to be patronising to me. I took issue with something I found unsettling, and you instantly suggested I post something about someone (not the point of my post), which I declined, and now you're just being really patronising...

GirlDownUnder · 19/05/2019 17:09

Ok no worries Brew Biscuit

Ereshkigal · 19/05/2019 17:31

A particular highlight in the responses to the "Mumsnet coordinated the protest" thread is this thread by MN fan Jane Fae in which Jane links gender critical feminism with the rise of the far right and blathers on about "fash" like an 18 year old blue haired fresher.

twitter.com/JaneFae/status/1129668216714870784?s=20

GirlDownUnder · 19/05/2019 17:50

Ahh yes thanks Eresh I saw that, but skimmed past. So many words. So few no responses.

Angel Delightt* (from twitter) seemed to hold their own. Star

KatvonHostileExtremist · 19/05/2019 17:56

Oh that made me laugh!
