Sanity prevails

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 25/04/2019 14:24

Who is HB then?

hoteltango · 25/04/2019 14:30

Excellent. Yes, sanity prevails.

I read the whole thing, very clearly written.

I also noted what was at the very end of the report:

"The complainant complained to the Independent Complaints Reviewer about the process followed by IPSO in handling this complaint. The Independent Complaints Reviewer decided that the process was not flawed and did not uphold the request for review."

(No share token, sorry)

Brilliant.

Belcher truns "Trans Media Watch" fekko. And often crops up as an adviser to government, companies etc on trans issues. Was much involved in Maria Miller's 2016 debacle of a committee.

CharlieParley · 25/04/2019 14:41

Helen Belcher

NowtSalamander · 25/04/2019 14:42

Flowers for Janice. I read the whole thing and hopefully it will empower more journalists (and MPs) to speak out.

BuzzPeakWankBobbly · 25/04/2019 14:50

Well done The Times too, for standing up to the bullies. I imagine the editor has had to stand up for their team (and the truth) more than once with this bunch.

CharlieParley · 25/04/2019 14:53

And brilliant result, thank you Janice for standing strong! The reasoning here is particularly welcome. I thought IPSO was thoroughly captured but this gives me hope.

RedToothBrush · 25/04/2019 14:54

So every single thing Helen Belcher slung at Janice Turner to say the article was unacceptable was thrown out and Janice found to be be making fair and accurate comment.

Who'd have thunk it.

The Times has spent the last few years building its brand as one centred on journalist high standards. Approaching such a controversial subject which was likely to attract criticism, complaint or even legal challenge the paper were unlikely to risk throwing that brand identity down the toilet carelessly now we're they?

Honestly. My mind boggles.

It only serves to prove the point that has been made repeatedly in The Times about trans activists trying to silence.

RedDogsBeg · 25/04/2019 14:58

hoteltango I noted the last comment too, they really don't like being disagreed with and proven wrong.

VickyEadie · 25/04/2019 15:12

The complaints were clearly an attempt to silence any discussion or criticism.

Whatisthisfuckery · 25/04/2019 15:15

Here is a sharetoken for the article. Hope it works.

RedToothbrush Have I read the info at the end of the IPSO ruling correctly that having rejected all of Helen Belcher's accusations, Helen Belcher then complained about IPSO to ICR, which was then also thrown out?

(extract)
"Review

The complainant complained to the Independent Complaints Reviewer about the process followed by IPSO in handling this complaint. The Independent Complaints Reviewer decided that the process was not flawed and did not uphold the request for review.

Date complaint received: 21/11/2018

Date complaint concluded: 15/03/2019"

R0wantrees · 25/04/2019 15:17

hoteltango Apologies, I skimmed the thread & missed your comment re the subsequent complaint about IPSO by Belcher.

Whatisthisfuckery · 25/04/2019 15:18

Hang on, I missed off half the link. Try again.

Last year Helen Belcher/Trans Media Watch complained about Mumsnet to the Home Affairs Committee on hate crime.

OP leyat wrote, Wed 02-May-18 :
"Trans Media Watch appears to want the term 'trans identified male', or indeed referring to them as 'men' to be understood as hate speech and deems Mumsnet 'of particular concern'. This really has to be read to be believed; here is their written submission to the Home Affairs Committee: data.parliament.uk/writtenevidence/committeeevidence.svc/evidencedocument/home-affairs-committee/hate-crime-and-its-violent-consequences/written/82105.pdf. It is quite the collection of lies and misrepresentations designed to completely malign women, the only good thing about it is that it is so obviously one-sided that most rational people would see that.

Worth sharing this article on how the committee has been approaching the matter, and how at least some MP's want women silenced: blogs.spectator.co.uk/2018/05/why-are-some-mps-trying-to-shut-down-the-transgender-debate/

Keep resisting!"

RedToothBrush · 25/04/2019 15:41

R0wantrees, that's how I'm reading it.

IPSO pretty much told Helen Belcher to piss off and stop making vexatious complaints and telling us we can't do our job properly. Albeit in a polite manner.

barelove · 25/04/2019 15:55

Yay! 👏👏👏

Thank you to Janice and The Times for showing such backbone in the face of these deluded bullies. Flowers

Melroses · 25/04/2019 16:09

The complainant complained to the Independent Complaints Reviewer about the process followed by IPSO in handling this complaint. The Independent Complaints Reviewer decided that the process was not flawed and did not uphold the request for review.

That sounds familiar. Appeal, appeal and more appeal on every technicality and wear them down approach Hmm

Flowers Janice
Flowers The Times

Goodness knows what it costs them in standing against this time-wasting, but they are all Stars

truthisarevolutionaryact · 25/04/2019 16:25

Well done Janice Turner and The Times for standing firm in the face of this onslaught of intimidatory and silencing tactics. There seems no end to the lengths that trans activists will go to to stop discussion and debate, not only amongst women but in the media at large.

AlwaysComingHome · 25/04/2019 16:32

That’s a pretty comprehensive rejection.
