Famous women challenge

Hi, my dd has challenged me to find a famous Actress, Instrumentalist, Dancer, Singer, Singing Diva (has to be on the stage) who has stayed on top of her game post dc?

She is sure there is nobody and it's her argument for not having kids, she's only a teen and realistically could change her mind.

I know it's nothing to do with me but I want to inform properly, it will be up to her and her biological clock when she is older.
I have been a sahm for 30 years and have absolutely no regrets at all, but I was never going to be world class at anything, and had free choice.

So to try and get a good balance and because when we have discussions she can still talk me into a bloody corner, would love to hear any suggestions.
No presenters or tv celeb judges btw, they are all great but a different category.

Problem is with those who 'fade' after DC it's probably because they were filthy rich in the first place and decided they'd much rather stop all the hard work and knock about with babies / kids instead?? And what is so terrible about that?

Billy02 · 13/04/2019 23:27

Oh thank you. I don't follow celebs lives and neither does she and backs me into a corner every time.

She's confusing having kids with careers fading

She needs to remember age plays a part in that more than 'having kids'

CaptSkippy · 13/04/2019 23:30

If she doesn't want to have children, why are you pushing her? It's her body, not yours. Yeah, she may change her mind, but that would still be her decision.

Cher.

Ashley Bouder

Link dancing whilst pregnant (2016).

She's a principle at New York City Ballet today (as she was in the clip).

LondonHuffyPuffy · 13/04/2019 23:35

ber age plays a part in that more than 'having kids‘ yep. Exactly.

Also someone mentioned upthread about women who have a lot of money then have the luxury to take time out. Cate Blanchett and Kate Winslet both did that.

There are lots of women with kids who manage to achieve stellar careers. The richer you are the easier it is because you can afford help, or you can take time out because you have the financial cushion to do so.

Billy02 · 13/04/2019 23:39

wow that's amazing.
For those asking why I'm pushing her, believe me this is discussion and one I think we should have with our children.
You should know that my dd is very much her own person, I'm in awe of how she isn't swayed by anyone.
I'm just trying to give a balanced picture and she challenged me and I couldn't think of anyone.

Pushing someone into doing something they have said they don't want to do is very different from "having a discussion." Futhermore, what possible discussion can you have about the choices a woman makes regarding her own body?

Billy02 · 13/04/2019 23:43

Oh, these are fantastic. Thanks so much, this is brilliant.

You obviously don't see it the same. We have open discussions and I don't think it's healthy to believe your career has to go to have children.

DeRigueurMortis · 13/04/2019 23:45

Why would Adele put you in the corner?

She's a mother and one of the most successful singer/songwriters currently....

LassOfFyvie · 13/04/2019 23:45

It's a peculiar challenge. The vast majority of women are never going to be a famous actress, instrumentalist, dancer, singer, etc. Is the choice being one of them or a SAHM for 30 years?

Doesn't she know any non - famous women who have children and careers?

Why not point out Margaret Thatcher or Jacinda Ardern- both mothers.

Billy02 · 13/04/2019 23:45

Oh, and she knows I gave my career up, I tell her it's because I wanted to, not because I had to.
