I believe this is in relation to sexual assault charges?

The sexual assault charges were dropped, his arrest is for failing to appear at his court date.

GabrielleNelson · 11/04/2019 11:48

Sounds like Ecuador got thoroughly pissed off with him. Not sure what's happening about the Swedish charges. They may be out of time.

I loathe Assange. I think he's a coward for not going to Sweden to stand trial. He and his acolytes said he thought he would be extradited to the US. Surely since Trump was elected he's had nothing to fear from the US, even if he did before, which I doubt?

JamB4cream · 11/04/2019 12:08

I'm usually on the side of the truthtelling, whistleblowing underdog, but right from the beginning something about him didn't feel right, i found him a bit creepy a bit of an ego.

Then the sexual assault (now dropped??) allegations came out.Hmm

I'm not sure what to think, It'll be interesting to see what happens next.

NeurotrashWarrior · 11/04/2019 12:08

Ah I see gun thanks. Just heard on news.

I feel there's more here than meets the eye but I'm sure it will all play out.

Looks like they're hoping to reopen the case in Sweden:

BollocksToBrexit · 11/04/2019 12:11

I thought only one of the charges had been dropped because it had reached its time limit but the other one still stood. I hope that is correct and he finally has to face justice. Odious creep that he is.

BoomBoomsCousin · 11/04/2019 12:23

He may have helped Trump out by publishing the Clinton emails, but when he published the security docs that Bradley (now Chelsea) Manning leaked he was public enemy no. 1 (or may be no. 2) to an awful lot of people who are now Trump supporters.

Popchyk · 11/04/2019 12:30

Imagine being a member of staff in the Ecuador Embassy.

And how happy you'd be right now - having got rid of him after 7 years.

I'll bet that they are jumping for joy in there.

MockerstheFeManist · 11/04/2019 13:00

...And the Yanks have suddenly come up with an extradition request.

Poor old 'Cupboard Boy,' as they call him in his native land.

Long list of cmplaints from the Ecuadorians about his behaviour, including not cleaning up after his cat and damage caused by his skateboard. (Julian is 47.)

SomeDyke · 11/04/2019 13:05

Glad to hear that they are trying to get the rape case reopened.

I'm worried about the cat though, although the embassy seems to have been keeping an eye on its care.......

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 11/04/2019 13:10

He dressed the cat up. It will be better off without him.

eddiemairswife · 11/04/2019 13:13

I hope he isn't extradited to the US. I don't trust their 'justice' system.

MockerstheFeManist · 11/04/2019 13:14

The cat is the innocent victim in all of this.

It may ask for purrrlitical asylum.

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 11/04/2019 13:16

He dressed the cat up

He’s braver than he looks

I’ll be following this with interest (not just because of the cat)

FoldyRoll · 11/04/2019 13:19

Just been listening to him whining like a child on The World at One and loudly shouting OH FUCK OFF at the radio. What an entitled scuzz.

lucasthecat · 11/04/2019 13:20

I do not think Assange is a decent or straight forward individual - However his resistance to going to Sweden - was always his fear he would be xtradited to the US- if convicted in Sweden the sentence would have been much shorter than the 7 years he spent under house arrest in the embassy - No matter how much I dislike him - I don’t think he deserves life in a US super max prison - essentially 24 hour solitary comfinemnent - no sunlight etc - I still remember the videos and the audio of the civilians being shot that Chelsea Manning - leaked

MockerstheFeManist · 11/04/2019 13:24

When he was told that Afghan interpreters had died after wikileaks revealed their identities, he smirked and said it was their fault for collaborating with the USA.

Handy Hint: If you do not wish to go to a high-security prison, it is best not to jump bail and prove you are a flight risk.

andyoldlabour · 11/04/2019 13:24

This may help to clear the muddy waters. A timescale of what happened before any charges were made, and why the two women originally went to the police.

www.reuters.com/article/us-wikileaks-assange-charges/special-report-std-fears-sparked-case-against-wikileaks-boss-idUSTRE6B669H20101207

This whole thing has been about US attempts to get Assange extradited to the US, because Wikileaks released information concerning US war crimes and torture in Iraq and Afghanistan.

MockerstheFeManist · 11/04/2019 13:28

The whole thing has been about an entitled narcissistic little prick.

Daffopill · 11/04/2019 13:35

He makes my skin crawl. They’ll be having a party in the Ecuadorean embasssy tonight.

deydododatdodontdeydo · 11/04/2019 13:42

Conspiracy.

lucasthecat · 11/04/2019 13:48

I accept he’s an entitled narcissist and probably much worse - but I don’t think he derves life in a US prison

JustAnotherWoman · 11/04/2019 14:07

Funnily enough I can't bring myself to worry about Assange Grin

MockerstheFeManist · 11/04/2019 14:16

I'd be more than happy for him to serve his sentence for bail-jumping then be deported to Australia who can keep him.

He is responsible for many deaths in Afghanistan by dumping raw data into the public domain.

I also note the enthusiastic support he has received today from Russia. I'd also be happy for him to share a Moscow hotel room with that traitor Snowden.
