NC for this because it’s in my local area and don’t want my other very outing posts linked together.

I’ve had enough of this shit. Seriously. What can we do? I feel like every day we read about rapists and abusers walking free, and very rarely hear about them ever being punished.

I'm just going by the CPS figures.

www.theguardian.com/society/2018/sep/23/revealed-less-than-a-third-of-young-men-prosecuted-for-are-convicted

"Of the cases that were prosecuted, 42% did not result in a conviction."

Ereshkigal · 09/04/2019 21:32

Not just a low reporting rate. Most reported rapes don't proceed to court.

FloralBunting · 09/04/2019 21:32

I think someone is itching for some women to get riled. I think people who post shit like that can get knotted.

AssassinatedBeauty · 09/04/2019 21:33

Is it important to comment on this thread about protecting innocent men by having multiple other guilty men freed? We are talking about innocent women who have been horrifically attacked. How do we protect them and give them justice?

MenuPlant · 09/04/2019 21:33

The good news is its more like 1000 women are raped and see no recourse in order to see that only the most violent awful case closed perfect victim rapists see any prison time.

LangCleg · 09/04/2019 21:35

most trials do end up with a conviction

No, they don't.

Also: this is a grey rock.

"If recording my own rape isn't enough evidence, what is?"
ZebrasAreBras · 09/04/2019 21:35

Did you mean to link to a piece with a headline Less than a third of young men prosecuted for rape are convicted AverageMan?

Most rape cases don't even make it to court. 9/10 cases are not even reported. And that's because of stuff like this.

MenuPlant · 09/04/2019 21:36

This man says it is better that 10 women are raped than have 1 man have a bad time.

Like I say good news is its more like 1000.

Plenty of people think rape should basically be legal if the victim is over about 12 and under about 60, and is not killed, and even if they are killed probably even then sometimes there should be leeway for the poor chap that did it.

MenuPlant · 09/04/2019 21:37

And the man who has a bad time is Overwhelmingly likely to be guilty.

So it reads

It's better that 10 women are raped than 1 rapist goes to prison... I think.

ClosdesMouches · 09/04/2019 21:37

Definitely a grey rock moment.
Recommend a quick look at AS too...

LangCleg · 09/04/2019 21:39

Perhaps time to remember this harrowing documentary:

AverageMan · 09/04/2019 21:45

"If recording my own rape isn't enough evidence, what is?"

That was the question. The answer is that, given most trials end in a conviction, clearly there is no lack of evidence in the majority of trials.

It's unwise to single out this one case as a reason to seek reform of the law. We don't know all the facts surrounding it.

Ereshkigal · 09/04/2019 21:45

I didn't see it Lang, thanks for the link.

MenuPlant · 09/04/2019 21:46

Wow.

MenuPlant · 09/04/2019 21:50

V interesting article about not proven verdict in Scotland and a woman who won a civil case after not proven in criminal court.

isabellerossignol · 09/04/2019 21:50

That was the question. The answer is that, given most trials end in a conviction, clearly there is no lack of evidence in the majority of trials.

And in one part of the UK, (N Ireland) the conviction rate once it reaches trial is only 15%.

Hearhere · 09/04/2019 21:51

Horrifying and terrifying

LangCleg · 09/04/2019 21:58

I didn't see it Lang, thanks for the link.

It's awful to watch but it's arranged in a way that really makes you see how the process fails, from reporting, to CPS, through to the trial. All the women are failed at different points, bar one.

finnmcool · 09/04/2019 22:11

I'm 5ft 2, at the time I weighed 7.5 stone. My ex was a muscular, fit, 6ft 4 military man. Imagine the damage that can be done when he's in a rage, internally and externally.
He told the police I liked it rough, they initially believed him, I wasn't protected.
Have you heard the term brothers in arms? The abuse of me became a group jolly.
I was too traumatised to leave my home for over a year, nevermind go to court.
They are called heroes and I'm the one with PTSD.
Men are allowed to do what they want to women with impunity and I'm sick of it.

AhhhHereItGoes · 09/04/2019 22:12

The only way we can beat these 'men' is to in fact become more like them. Take justice into our own hands- be manipulative, physically intimidating and guarded.

It's depressing you have to become what you hate to avoid it.

GregoryPeckingDuck · 09/04/2019 22:16

I’m sorry but it’s nuts to say that it’s ok for one innocent man to be convicted of rape to ensure that 10 guilty ones are as well, or a hundred, or a thousand. That’s not on andyou can fuck off woth your utilitarian bullshit. Not ok. It’s appalling that you think it is acceptable to give the courts the power to improson innocent people. Two wrongs do no make a right. You cannot stop men from raping apparently but you can choose not to uphold the rule of law by opposing arbitrary imprisonments.

However, that doesn’t mean that the system is even remotely adequate. Lay persons simply aren’t qualified to make decisions on rape. A panel of experts as pp mentioned above is the way forward. This will improve the quality of our legal system and increase conviction rates without compromising the integrity of our legal system.

Ive missed who said this...who said it?

MenuPlant · 09/04/2019 22:21

Very few men are falsely convicted of any crime.

Many many many men who are guilty go free.

So in fact it means that 10 women should be raped before I rapist is convicted.

In fact for maximum safety for men, just make rape legal. Then no men will be falsely convicted. Hooray!!!

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 09/04/2019 22:22

Ive reread the thread twice now

Im gonna be pissed if no one said it

AssassinatedBeauty · 09/04/2019 22:22

finnmcool, it's so utterly awful that there is no support for you and no way for you to feel able to report what was done to you. Flowers
