Possible Jordan Peterson webchat on MN

If you go over to site stuff, MN are asking posters if they would like a webchat with Jordan Peterson! The thread is pretty negative, but I think it would be great to ask him about gender critical issues. He's one of the only Canadian voices we have!

If you think this would be good, please go and say so on the thread! Smile

If people have the chance to watch his Youtube lectures and conversations they can see the real person, not the person in media interviews which are set piece traps to confirm their own (the media's) prejudices. I think it would be a fascinating chat.

Mumminmum · 08/04/2019 16:41

No thank you. Why give the man a platform. I am convince that neither Donald Trump nor Nicel Farage would have been so succesfull if the media had been far, far, far to willing to give them a platform. Trolls have enough platforms, thank you very much. Let's not give them any more. Let's refrain from giving them creditbility by allowing them onto our respectable platforms.

He’s an interesting guy that’s for sure and I’d watch a web chat with interest

My take is that he’s not even a little bit gender critical. He totally believes in lady brain, he just thinks only women have it

Christ no. When did it become a good idea to have an MRA poster boy on MN?

GeordieGenes · 08/04/2019 17:06

But surely you’d still like the webchat? So that you can argue against him directly?

OP posts:
Katterinaballerina · 08/04/2019 17:08

Why?

Sitdownstandup · 08/04/2019 17:17

Why would they let that dickpiece on? He'd cherry pick the questions, swerve the inconvenient ones and if anyone pointed out that any of his answers were nonsense he'd refuse to engage.

You don't have to, its not compulsory - but why do you want to stop others web chatting with him?

Katterinaballerina · 08/04/2019 17:22

Why do I want to keep him and his army of misogynist keyboard warriors away from MN?

sawdustformypony · 08/04/2019 17:30

MN Admin has said it could restrict comments to established posters.

Katterinaballerina · 08/04/2019 17:32

It’s what would happen to people who post things his fanboys don’t like that would be the issue.

AssassinatedBeauty · 08/04/2019 17:33

Since when is saying no, I wouldn't want that, a problem? It's not telling anyone else what can and can't happen! It's expressing a valid and reasonable opinion, as asked for by MNHQ ffs.

JackyHolyoake · 08/04/2019 17:38

Indeed, if we want to exercise our right to free speech for ourselves we need to extend that to others, surely?

Freespeecher · 08/04/2019 17:39

I'm sure he'd get asked a better set of questions by MN posters than he gets elsewhere. Hope it happens.

Katterinaballerina · 08/04/2019 17:41

We don’t have the right to free speech in the UK, thankfully. We also don’t have to invite people into our personal space to listen to them give their opinion, be that my MIL or Jordan Peterson.

LangCleg · 08/04/2019 17:42

You mean like Penny Mordaunt?

You have to admit that would be one better than the NSPCC: it just ran away once it saw the questions actually pertained to the safeguarding of children.

I think he should come and chat. Then we can moan about either his answers or his deflections - I think he's unlikely to run away.

Deary me. Webchats, eh?

sawdustformypony · 08/04/2019 17:44

MN is your personal space ?

AssassinatedBeauty · 08/04/2019 17:45

I don't think freedom of speech means having a right to be invited onto every platform to publicise your current work for free.

LangCleg · 08/04/2019 17:47

I think he should come. It would be funny.

Katterinaballerina · 08/04/2019 17:47

MN is a personal space for a women as a group. Yes, there are men who post but it’s one of the few places online which is female dominated.

sawdustformypony · 08/04/2019 17:49

Its tagline is by parents for parents

This has shit all to do with free speech, really. Nobody has a right to free speech on a particular internet forum, and not wanting someone on a specific internet forum isn't an interference with the right to free speech.
