A theatre company are looking for playwrights who identify as female mothers. The responses are fabulous, I'm particularly loving 'Daphne's' reply.

I'll bet that one could identify as a "female mother" without even having any kids. Let alone a fanny and that. People are daft.

In general, I'm afraid the writing community is massively, massively woke - and I'm beginning to despair. The Society of Authors put out a tweet the other day encouraging female - AND non-binary of course - authors and no one batted an eye.

Its so revealing that while they ask for 'female identifying playwrights' - they also blithely talk about 'male playwrights' - not 'male-identifying'.

Tbh it sounds like they're excluding ftms, although using woke language to do so.

I suppose to identify as a female mother it’s not strictly necessary to actually have children.

We only have boys, but by God can their mother identify them. She can spot them a mile off in a crowded playground. Seems a bit unfair to exclude her.

99% of the responses were taking the piss out of this woke nonsense. It is incredibly heartening to see that the public are not buying this shit.

The responses are gold. I agree with Helmetbymidnight, I work in the arts and am thinking of just retraining because of the amount of PC work BS that permeates everything. It essentially leads to bad art if you can't use critical thinking and work only becomes an exercise in virtue signalling. Anyway, I came across this equal opportunities form the other day and couldn't see how this would help anyone. Gender choices amount to 1) mixed sex 2) mixed sex 3) mixed sex 4) prefer not to say. So 3 mixed sex groups and one unknown. How are they supposed to monitor the number of actual women they are including? Of course, now the zeitgeist has changed women have cis privilege, so trans is the new thing we have to include and women come second, as highlighted in the main post.

Having said that I was told I was petty when I questioned the use of “pregnant people” on a recent thread.

I can't understand it. Writers - and all those engaged in any arts - are surely supposed to be critical thinkers and yet many of them seem to have swallowed this without any thought at all.
