A theatre company are looking for playwrights who identify as female mothers. The responses are fabulous, I'm particularly loving 'Daphne's' reply.

please direct me to Daphne I'm laughing too much to find that reply.

Can we have 'woke-itis' entered into the medical books? It's a disease or infection surely?

Well found! That's some very bendy logic on display!
I think her brain may have been replaced with a root vegetable facsimile.
So, ''mother is no longer a gender-specific term'', it's ''just a word for a set of qualities''? Fnarp, tell that to my reproductive system!

andyoldlabour · 22/03/2019 14:54

"Haa... I'm still laughing at the first reply.
And others."

Yes, that was a perfect example of "feMANinity" Grin

I love the one underneath too- 'Mother I've found you'

Look at the number of likes too. The 'female identifying mothers' tweet from the theatre has 26 likes, Daphne's response has 750! You'd think that would tell them something.

Bluestitch I believe that is called being ‘ratioed’. I am learning so many new words following this farce.

I like this exchange:

I feel like I have woke fatigue too

Ah thanks, I keep seeing that term and wondered what it meant!

I'm guessing after reading all the responses that they just want actual women who have actually given birth. But you can't say that any more without offending someone. Also including transmen who have given birth makes less sense because they don't even want to be women anymore, so since they dn't feel like women and deny they are women, does their perspective belong in a narrative about women until they have straightened out their issues? I feel like that population is probably a small one at any rate, as many transmen do whatever is possible to avoid childbearing, although I do know one who had a child prior to transitioning.

It's in the mail, so even more exposure and ridicule.

Amoregentlemanlikemanner · 22/03/2019 15:11

yikes!

RepealTheGRA · 22/03/2019 15:19

Glad it’s in the mail. Mail readers definitely recognise this as utter shite. But how do we get them to realise that actually it’s really dangerous shite that will impact on them, their children and grandchildren and that they need to write to their elected representatives about it. They need to challenge any organisation using gender instead of sex and ultimately they’re probably going to have to MARCH.

AssassinatedBeauty · 22/03/2019 16:09

According to their submissions information page they also think that people can self identify as disabled, and that plays can actually identify as LGBT+. I quote:

"We’re seeking plays that identify as LBTQ+ themed for a week slot (Tue-Sat) with us"

Holy crap...

Mumminmum · 22/03/2019 17:32

I think that it is unfair that you can identify as a mother but not as a playwrigth. I don't write and want to do an interpretive dance for them which they can then turn into a play...... Oh no wait. I can't dance either. .... I will ...... I will ... I will either sew a garment or cook a dish which they can then turn into a play. What am I saying: I can just identify as someone who can dance. Wow! This "identify as" solves everything.

Threewheeler1 · 22/03/2019 17:55

I know Mumminmum
What if I want to identify as the mother of someone else's kids when mine are annoying me with their endless requests for exact location of missing belongings?
Or maybe, next time DS1 is telling me that it's cool at so-and-so's house 'cos they've got a VR headset', I can give him a nudge to identify as one of their kids?
There are so many possibilities with this self-identifying lark.
