I hate the term. I hate to see women blithely reduce themselves to being a subset of women.

But I know I've read more reasons as to why it is not an ok term to use. So can you share your one liners or even two liners (they need to be simple enough that I can remember and re-use them).

Thanks!

Because I am a woman, the original unaltered type. I don’t have a problem with people referring to themselves as other types of ‘woman’ should they wish to do so and they can stick whatever prefix on for themselves that they like (although it does raise all sorts of issues about single sex spaces and sports for example) but I do not wish to be labelled by them as anything other than what I am - a woman.

mummmy2017 · 20/03/2019 09:58

We have woman, and women.
Could we not have womyn....
To denote a change .

reported my own post above due to silly typo

poem should read thus

I wish that you’re desist from this ridiculous insidious insistence of misnaming me cis
I’m insane in the membrane, born in flames
and I’m sick of your games to rename and reframe
My female self, my slow growing rose will rise and oppose all that you throw at me
Cos I got sick rhymes and I’m a slay you with poetry

Make no mistake when I say that I’m a slay you, I ain’t threatening that some day I’ll repay you
With the kicks and the punches, harassment and doxxing
you impose upon us, my superpower is outfoxing
My pen is my weapon, words my artillery, I’ve survived more icy peaks than my man Sir Edmund Hillary

Love it! Wine

hoodathunkit · 25/03/2019 20:02

Thank you Poster and Ereshkigal Blush

Here's another one, I might add another verse at a later date

Cis sounds like a cyst on a breast or an ovary
Gotta have it excised before it takes over me
Cis sounds like a cistern like you find in a toilet
Prefix me with a WC? Take my femininity and then spoil it?
Cis sounds like the System, the historic oppression

  • of women, you don’t get it just by putting a dress on
Ereshkigal · 25/03/2019 20:35

I'd love to hear you perform it, rap battle style Smile

There's a whole bunch of good replies to this question among the responses to this tweet on Twitter (in between a lot of wading through trans-ideollogue cheerleading and wokebros virtue signaling)

I think my favourite is "No feminist would describe herself as comfortable with the gender she was assigned at birth - Gender is a patriarchal hierarchy that exists to subjugate female people. You're literally asking us to identify ourselves as being inferior."

MsVanillaRoseAuntof7 · 26/03/2019 02:04

It's not.

BickerinBrattle · 26/03/2019 03:35

By creating a subset of women, cis, opposed to a supposed other subset of women, trans, you by default create an overarching set of Women that includes both subsets.

In doing so, by sleight of hand, you maneuver trans women into being included by all laws referencing "women."

THAT's the problem with cis.

These not-so-innocent-change-the-law-by-changing language tactics have to pointed up and stopped, hard. That's NOT how law and legislation works.

ALittleBitofVitriol · 26/03/2019 03:51

EluphNaugeMeop

Thanks for that link. Harrop is on there talking about 'getting up the courage to come out as c*s' hahahahahahahaha

Ereshkigal · 26/03/2019 06:55

It's not.

Not to women who are happy to throw other women under the bus, and their male allies, no. It is to many others.

ALannisterInDebt · 26/03/2019 07:04

I am a woman

(I my spellcheck doesn't even recognise the word cis because it's made up and meaningless)

This. I'd also add that the utter contempt with which many transactivists refer to "cis" women, even often their allies, shows that they see themselves and other MTF trans people as superior within their arbitrary made up ladybrain category of "woman" and seek to push women down into the underclass as they see the hierarchy in society.

It's good old fashioned misogyny with a new twist.

AstonishedFemalePersonator · 26/03/2019 07:21

I'm a woman, not a sub-category of a woman.

mummmy2017 · 26/03/2019 08:06

said by me in another thread...
I am what Mother Nature created a Woman

nellodee · 26/03/2019 20:38

This resonated with me so much I had to make a Venn.

One liner as to why "cis" is objectionable please!
nellodee · 26/03/2019 20:42

Or actually, maybe this would be more appropriate...

One liner as to why "cis" is objectionable please!
Ereshkigal · 26/03/2019 21:14

Yes, definitely the second one. Clarifies the power element.

ErrolTheDragon · 26/03/2019 22:39

Yes, the second one, the first had transwomen as a subset of cis women as well as the positioning. You're exactly right.

PlasticPatty · 26/03/2019 22:43

I am a woman, an adult human female. I do not need any further definition.

AstonishedFemalePersonator · 27/03/2019 07:16

I like the second one and think a pyramid, rather than an oval, would show the hierarchy even more clearly.

ErrolTheDragon · 27/03/2019 08:34

Inverted pyramid for the men, and not sure it should have the cis word in it...

Actually, I think it's more like one set for men and another for non-men, which is the union of the 'women' trans/cis pyramid and transmen.

Ereshkigal · 27/03/2019 08:57

It's illustrating why "cis" is a problem, so I think it makes the point much better with it there, on this occasion.
