It's interesting reading Stacey's twitter feed. Stacey is worried that we are winning. And I hope we are. Stacey is talking about the review of hospital wards. But at the same time I'd like to tell Stacey that Even though I am as terfy as they come, I want people who identify as trans to be safe. Even though I know for some it is a male sexual fetish manifested in plain sight. Ugh. And if that means separate hospital wards, prison wings, DV refuges, etc away from the men that they are scared of (but that we are not allowed to be scared of) then so be it. But we all know that that is not good enough. Hospitals are about being medically tested, prisons are about being segregated from the general public, refuges are about safe houses from abusers. NONE of them exist to validate ones self-claimed 'identity'. None.

A lot of TRAs claim this, however when pushed (and its like getting blood from a stone) all they have is that study of 7/8 transpeople. Meanwhile, all other science says males have an advantage over females, as does common fucking sense.

This is hilarious. So, Sharron Davies, who has spent 45 years in competitive swimming, first as a professional swimmer then as a commentator, is discussing something she doesn't "completely understand"?

Aside from the outright nastiness of KcKinnon's tweet, it shows up the salient clash of worldviews rather nicely.

For TRAs the reasoning goes: proper womanhood lies in looking like Barbie (not my catastrophising misrepresentation of their views: this is on the jellybabies from Barbie to GI Joe poster that GIRES use in their "educational" outreach work). Therefore I (not passing 100%) am no different in appearance from women who fail to look like Barbie (which let's face it is all of us unless we've had extensive Kardashian-esque plastic surgery). So if people want to argue that I shouldn't be allowed into women's sports, neither should any woman who fails to look like Barbie.

Whereas GC feminists are saying "no, you shouldn't be in women's sports because, regardless of what plastic surgery and hormone regime you undertake, you retain the underlying male physiology you were born with. Doesn't matter whether you look like Barbie or look like GI Joe, you have male physiology, which gives you an immense competitive advantage over people with a female physiology."

This tweeter argues that transgender athletes pose no threat and seems to at least be reasonable in the language used. She also has a book coming out. As I don’t know enough about the facts of transgender women in sport, I’m curious what you all think.

If not why not.

Tannehill’’s stuff begins by overlooking that the rule that allowed trans athletes to compete as women from 2004 made full genital surgery compulsory. 80% of MtF transpeople retain their male genitalia. Those that do have the surgery often have it later in life, ie, after the point of a viable athletic career.

The 2015 rule change does away with the surgery rule, Instead it requires (at least) two recorded testosterone levels, 1 year apart.

We haven’t yet had an Olympics that feasibly allows trans competitors under this new rule, and it’s this rule that female elite athletes are protesting against.

Failure to set this out means the rest of Tannehill’s argument is presented disingenuously.

The post ignores stuff like USA girls soon to be missing out on scholarships to university (route out of poverty in usa) due to transgirls with no changes to their hormones or anything competing against them.

note i am not in favour of giving transgirls hormones!
