United Nations runs ad campaign saying it's discrimination not to have sex with transpeople

See here:
twitter.com/Journal_UN_ONU/status/968233238778073089 (in French)
twitter.com/ADS_Bund/status/969150422484123648 (in English, retweeted by the German Federal Anti-Discrimination Agency)
(and in other places too)

There are a whole bunch of other ads e.g., 'would you still want him on the Football team if he was gay' 'would you still support your son if he was gay' 'would you still eat his food if he had AIDS'

which all make sense, but for some reason a sexual relationship is only mandatory if a person identifies a trans.

In this case it's a photo of a man kissing a woman (with a strongly implied sexual context) however the exact same argument is the 'cotton ceiling' used by the vilest TRAs to say women should be obligated to have sex with them.

If you don't want to have sex with short people, thin people, transgender people, gay people, people with AIDS, people with red hair, people of a different race, that's YOUR BODY YOUR CHOICE.

How thick can you get?

Someone's 'gender identity' is a figment of their imagination and imperceptible to anyone else.

If someone insists you pretend you can perceive their gender identity and also pretend you can't see their sex, then you should avoid being in a relationship with that person because they demand too much of you. It's abusive gaslighting.

blackcat86 · 02/03/2019 04:57

You can find someone unattractive for any reason regardless of how they want to identify themselves. I do think that a lot of this feeds into Male bodied trans fantasies about having sex with lesbians.

Mumphineasandferbmadea · 02/03/2019 05:16

This is crazy you cant force people to be attracted to what they're not. It's like the men who think it's their right to sleep with beautiful women. I discriminate against everyone anyway as I just refuse to have sex.

frankexchangeofviews · 02/03/2019 07:14

At least it’s straight men in the firing line for once.

Cloven · 02/03/2019 07:30

Well, perhaps the poster features “desirability politics” because they talked to some trans activists to see what they thought the most pressing human rights issues facing trans people are...

Nah, if that was the case the passive-aggressive poster would be targeted at lesbians.

zanahoria · 02/03/2019 07:35

their fact sheet also says

"at least 98 countries criminalize some aspects of sex work"

"at least 100 countries have laws that crimjnalize the possession of drugs for personal use"

"in 92 countries girls can marry before the age of 18"

"only nine countries globally provide legal recognition for non-binary gender"

In all examples the UK is one of them

I don't want to get into the details of the arguments here but these are all contentious issues, what ever your opinion, screaming discrimination at an opponent doesn't further debate

Erm:
www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-6130021/Transgender-sex-attacker-no-penis-tricked-two-women-sex-jailed-three-years.html

I personally think it was a shame the sentence got reduced to community service.

Does the United Nations see the transman as a victim of discrimination? One of the women was fretting about why see wasn't getting pregnant. In law SHE was the victim.

I do feel sorry for trans people in this area. They have been sold a lie that the surgery and the hormones will be a magic wand, to happiness. It seems to be very hard to start relationships when you are trans. I'm a heterosexual woman (although I'm queer under stonewall, for extra special sparkle points) and no matter how attractive / or lovely a transman was, I really like willy ..... so.... no.

The gender quake programme was interesting and sad in this respect. The gay guy was crucified for telling the Irish lass that the guy who was into her was in fact trans. The Irish lass was gutted I think. People need to be honest.

It's really sad and tricky.

BickerinBrattle · 02/03/2019 07:58

Oh this will go over well.

From America, I needn’t safely say that right wingers who believe the UN is the fount of a totalitarian New World Order are going to flip out at the UN telling them they have to learn to like dick. And non-right wing men are going to agree that the UN is all kinds of fucked up here.

I can feel the wave of backlash swelling on the horizon. I continue to think it’s going to be indiscriminate, hitting the LGB community and feminists, and now also international diplomacy.

Huge tactical error on the part of the UN, arising out of astounding levels of hubris.

iThe mission of UNAIDS is to lead, strengthen and support an expanded response to HIV and AIDS that includes preventing transmission of HIV, providing care and support to those already living with the virus, reducing the vulnerability of individuals and communities to HIV and alleviating the impact of the epidemic. UNAIDS seeks to prevent the HIV/AIDS epidemic from becoming a severe pandemic

en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joint_United_Nations_Programme_on_HIV/AIDS

I have posted that just to point out that whoever out that leaflet has taken resources away from that campaign and used it towards their own political campaign.

They have chosen to moralize at those who disagree with their agenda so I shall return the favour

What they are doing is corrupt and it is evil

People are dying from AIDS and this does nothing to help

BickerinBrattle · 02/03/2019 08:01

Can, not needn’t. What a weird autocorrect!

icycoldlake · 02/03/2019 08:14

But everybody discriminates regarding their sexual partner if they are monogamous. The reasons aren't usually up for discussion. Sleeping with someone is not a 'right.'.

icycoldlake · 02/03/2019 08:15

And people who are not monogamous usually still discriminate too. Otherwise you would be sleeping with anyone who wanted you....

FemalePersonator · 02/03/2019 08:22

That was incredibly stupid of the UN. I hope that there is a massive backlash (there won't be, of course, but I can still hope).

And I agree with everyone who said that sleeping with whom you choose is your right - it is not the right of someone else to demand you sleep with them.

Datun · 02/03/2019 08:36

I don't get it, statistically approx a quarter of transwomen, globally, have HIV, and two thirds report never having been tested.

Are they saying that they shouldn't be upfront about belonging to a high risk cohort, and moralising over people who think they should? But they're an AIDS prevention charity?

TurboTeddy · 02/03/2019 08:38

Good grief this kind of crap annoys the hell out of me. I do not owe anyone an explanation for why I don't want to have sex with them, ever! That this even needs to be said makes me wonder if I dreamt "me too".

Lumene · 02/03/2019 08:41

Sure UN, gender identity is not a reason to discriminate. Nor is it a reason to sleep with a biological sex you’re not attracted to.

Men’s sexual rights movement is right.

CarolinePooter · 02/03/2019 08:52

I have replied to their silly tweet but don't suppose any public response will ever stop the wokiness of these orgs.

LizzieSiddal · 02/03/2019 08:54

This is shocking but as a PP said, I’m glad they’ve targeted it at straight men.

I’m sure lots of those straight men won’t mind their sexual partner has a penis.Hmm

WeRiseUp · 02/03/2019 09:27

I’m glad they’ve targeted it at straight men.

I thought that at first but now reckon it's a trojan horse. All men believe in the sovereignty of their own boners and entitlement to let them lead the way (why else is it straight women and gay men who are so obsessed with their appearance winning boner-approved looks, but straight men and lesbian women can be more laid back?). So this message will be like water off a ducks back to them - apart from, of course, if they already like shagging tw as a kink, they will now feel morally approved by the UN and superior about it "Wahey! My boner is also my moral compass! Get in!".

The only people to absorb this message and feel bad about it will be women and girls - it's the low social status and lack of entitlement thing.

RepealTheGRA · 02/03/2019 09:30

So they’re now targeting straight men, who don’t want to sleep with men? This is going to go well.

DoctoressPlague · 02/03/2019 09:33

Discrimination? The word has a legal meaning. Does the UN really want to conflate the real issues LGB people face with transgender people not getting sex (or "love") with who they want?
Can lesbians be accused of discrimination if they change their minds when they see that their date is a male?
We're supposed to be teaching boys and girls that it's ok to say NO at any time, but this nonsense suggests that you can't stop once you've started, because discrimination.

Knicknackpaddyflak · 02/03/2019 09:43

Isn't it Whittle who is working hard to remove the right to bodily autonomy? And believes that if you discover that the person you are having sex with is not of the sex they led you to believe, you should have no legal right of protest. Because

a) apparently it's your transphobia that you have a sexual preference that involves biology

and

b) the trans person's right to privacy would be infringed

The person misled, and their right to bodily autonomy, and their right to have made an informed choice, their feelings, their preferences, obviously don't matter. Difference in entitlement: straight out of Lundy Bancroft 'why does he do that' re abusive men.

You have to have a serious deficit in your theory of mind, empathy and basic ability to respect anyone else to believe in this stuff.

LangCleg · 02/03/2019 09:44

I don't get it, statistically approx a quarter of transwomen, globally, have HIV, and two thirds report never having been tested.

Are they saying that they shouldn't be upfront about belonging to a high risk cohort, and moralising over people who think they should? But they're an AIDS prevention charity?

Well, my thoughts precisely.

Unsurprisingly enough, the UNAIDS top bloke is one of the ones who has to resign due to the abuse scandals in the third sector:
