Fair play for women have developed a new leaflets regarding women's sports. We should all now share widely with anybody we know in any kind of sporting capacity so that we can get everybody talking about this if possible.

The time to speak is now and as we've seen from Public reaction to the Sporting issue public opinion is overwhelmingly in favour of keeping women sport for biological females only.

It just needed someone of the calibre of Martina to get the ball rolling. Momentum is building now. It's unstoppable and great to see. I truly believe the sports issue at least will be resolved by the Olympics next year. It can't be ignored now.

pombear · 02/03/2019 19:53

Posting on a couple of threads for this, I know, and I also know this is an outlier of an example, but I'm aware that some posters will be highly aware of this, but newer posters may not be.

So I'm bringing this back for newcomers to the sports discussion - in case you weren't aware of the visceral anger stirred in Lauren Jeska when questions were asked about Lauren's testosterone levels when Lauren was competing (and winning) in women's fell running.

That led to Lauren's attempted murder of Ralph Knibbs

(Searching google for equal female rage about being questioned regarding sporting equity...nope, can't find anything. Strange, that).

To Ralph and his family Flowers

This is good news.

Also - I think that while some men will be pissed off about women's sport being appropriated actually many more men will be pissed off by the pure cheating of males who couldn't cut it in competitive sport in the category they belong to.

NeurotrashWarrior · 03/03/2019 07:02

Martina is so valuable to this as she's also gay. She'll get it beyond sport.

I don’t have a share token

Daley Thompson has tweeted his support.

hackmum · 03/03/2019 10:08

Interesting that it’s the older established sports people speaking out - those who have nothing to lose. The younger ones are presumably cowed into silence.

Sexnotgender · 03/03/2019 12:54

Indeed, the younger ones will have valuable sponsorship deals at stake unfortunately.

FloralBuntingIsObnoxious · 03/03/2019 12:56

Not all older retired. Nicola Adams, too.

jay55 · 03/03/2019 13:57

All lottery funded athletes have to sign an athlete agreement, the agreements vary by sport and have been quite contentious in some sports (many gymnasts refused the last one they were offered and it had to be redrawn).
Those agreements no doubt have clauses about social media and press interviews.

I don't blame any current athlete for not risking their livelihood, especially women who don't have lucrative sponsorship deals. But I've no doubt those speaking out have the ear of the current athletes in their sport.

AbigailMcGyn · 03/03/2019 21:59

True, Floral.

What Nicola said was short and to the point. Completely inoffensive to anyone, and nobody could argue with it.

She is very brave to speak up as a current athlete. And she chose her words well.

Class act.

Don't all faint but there's a decent summary of the situation in the Guardian for once

Bloody Stonewall though:

^Stonewall insists the sports bodies must be fair on transgender athletes, too. “Sport should be welcoming to everyone, including trans people,” it said. “We need clubs and governing bodies, as the experts, to consider how their sports’ individual policies can work to be as inclusive as possible, to ensure all people, including trans people, can take part in sport.”^

My observation is that lesbians form quite a high proportion of those playing womens sport at club level. Does anyone in Stonewall care that physically smaller women might get injured when playing football, hockey or rugby. Is it always all about trans, and transwomen at that.

OvaHere · 03/03/2019 22:35

Stonewall only view people as political pawns. Yes they are championing trans ideology at the moment but their real interest lies in ensuring the continued survival of Stonewall the organisation.

Trans people are the most lucrative cause right now but if the money dries up and something else eclipses them they will be thrown straight under the bus just as they did to the LGB.

It seems to happen time and again in the third sector. I worked for a non profit going back 2 decades ago and it was astonishing how compromised on their core values they became where money was at stake.

merrymouse · 04/03/2019 09:00

The only thing about the Guardian article is that it doesn't make clear that while for some people:

"The debate is whether those advantages are lost if a trans gender athlete takes medication to reduce that testosterone."

McKinnon believes that the only criteria should be identity and that sex is irrelevant.

Manderleyagain · 04/03/2019 16:02

The other thing that is missing in general is that women's sport (for some!) is about trying to be the best female at your sport in the club, county, country... the world. If the integrity of female sport is compromised to include some male people, that will be lost. They will you be the best person who thinks of themself as a woman?!

ValWiggin · 04/03/2019 17:49

Sport should be welcoming to everyone, including trans people [Stonewall]

This is so disingenuous. There would be no problem with trans people competing in their correct sex classes. The point is that we are seeing primarily MtF people 'identifying' into women's events.

DpWm · 04/03/2019 18:58

How do they suppose female transmen are going to be able to compete against men in sports, or qualify into the men's team? I guess they don't care about these females being basically excluded either.

ErrolTheDragon · 04/03/2019 22:55

Sport should be welcoming to everyone, including trans people

Sure. That doesn't mean that males must be accommodated by female sports. There are some TW who do still compete in men's events - I came across a piece about a cyclist the other day - they're not excluded.
